As we move into national final season, it’s now time for the first of the rumours of reported artists for Melodifestivalen 2017. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet — whose 2016 predictions turned out to be very accurate — have named boy band The Fooo Conspiracy, Melfest 2016 finalist Lisa Ajax, Melfest 2014 entrant Elisa Lindstrom, and upcoming singer Ida LaFontaine.

The Fooo Conspiracy

Teenage boyband the Fooo Conspiracy have been steadily building a fanbase in Sweden since 2013. They’ve opened for Justin Bieber and won the Innovator of the Year at the Swedish Grammis awards. Earlier this year they teamed up with Danny Saucedo to release a Spanish version of their hit “My Girl”.

Aftonbladet‘s source says that Christer Björkman wanted the Fooo last year, but they were too busy. Now with the band wanting to expand their fanbase, they’re hoping that Melodifestivalen — and potentially Eurovision — may do just that.

Lisa Ajax

After winning Swedish Idol in 2014, Lisa Ajax made her Melfest debut. She performed “My Heart Wants Me Dead”, written by the same team behind “Heroes”. Lisa won her heat and made it into the grand final, where she placed seventh overall. Lisa was also a favourite with wiwibloggs readers in our poll asking which Melfest 2016 act you’d like to see return. Aftonbladet are reporting that Lisa will likely sing a song written by Idol 2005 contestant and Melfest 2008 and 2010 act Ola Svensson.

Dansband singer Elisa Lindström got her start at Lilla Melodifestivalen 2005 as part of the group Lali. Their song “Du får ta mitt hjärta” (You can take my heart) finished in sixth place. Almost a decade later, she entered Melodifestivalen 2014 where her schlagertastic song “Casanova” placed fifth in its semi-final. Earlier this year, Elisa competed in Let’s Dance, which she ended up winning.

Ida LaFontaine

Ida got her start at the age of 10, when she sang with Måns Zelmerlöw on his song “Hold On” in 2009. She later participated in Lilla Melodifestivalen, and but took a break before launching her solo pop career in 2015. We spotted Ida in the recording studio a month ago and wondered if she had Melfest in mind — it looks like she did!

The Fooo Conspiracy, Lisa Ajax, Elisa Lindström and Ida LaFontaine join indie band and Svenktoppen Nästa wildcard winners Les Gordons for Melodifestivalen 2017. The national final will have a total of 28 competitors.

If Lisa’s song is as generic, uninspired and bland as the one she had this year, she can keep it. I’ve never heard of those other hennies, but boybands tend to flop at the ESC so it wouldn’t be the best move.

Never heard of the Foo Conspiracy but I may have just downloaded 6 of their songs. Disco lights activated and ‘king of the radio’ is on. I have now officially declared Eurovision 2017 open.

Does this mean that they’re part of the 28 semi-final acts? Or did they just submit songs?
