They’re a country that usually selects their Eurovision act without any public involvement. Now Montenegro are opening up their selection process and are accepting public submissions for their entry for Kyiv.

Broadcaster RTCG has announced that they will be accepting entries over the next month, up until 17 November.

They’re keeping it simple. The regular Eurovision rules apply, and the broadcaster is also looking for citizens of Montenegro or foreigners who have been resident in the country for at least two years.

The contest is also not open to employees of RTCG. Fans are noting this is a marked difference from 2016 when Highway — whose guitarist Luka Vojvodic is the son of RTCG’s director-general Rade Vojvodic — was internally selected.

The broadcaster has not confirmed whether their act for Kyiv will be internally selected or chosen with a national final.

Earlier this year singer Milena Vucic revealed that she was interested in representing Montenegro in Kyiv and had been having informal talks with the broadcaster.

In Montenegro’s first two years at Eurovision, they used the MontenegroSong national final, and then switched to internal selection from public submissions.

Since their 2012 comeback, the smallest Balkan nation has always used totally internal selection, with mixed results. They’ve twice made the grand final, both times with Balkan ballads sung in Montenegrin that captured the hearts of their neighbours.

Montenegro’s most recent act was the X Factor boy band Highway. Their edgy rock song “The Real Thing” placed 13th in the first semi-final in Stockholm. While Montenegro only managed to pick up televote points from neighbouring Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, they had better luck with juries. Jury members in San Marino, Malta and Azerbaijan were especially impressed by Highway’s stoner rock sound.

What do you think? Can Montenegro find an act to get them back in the Eurovision final? Share your thoughts below!

Awesome blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog stand out. Please let me know where you got your design. Thank you

Why don’t you contact him and then write us later.
You can’t judge someone if you don’t know what they’ve been through and their story 😉

What about Maša Vujadinovi? or Jana Mirkovi?? Both of them are 16 now, which means that they’re finally eligible to take part. 🙂

They really did *the real thing* with their interesting rock song this year I think. They juries liked it too. Would have qualified if they decided. Kudos to Montenegro 🙂

I also quite liked “Igranka” from 2013. Sometimes they have quite innovative entries.
