At A Dal 2016 he stepped away from the bittersweet pop he brought to Eurovision 2014.
And now Hungarian-American pop star Andras Kállay Saunders and the Kállay Saunders Band have proved their change is here to stay, as they published the music video for their gritty new single “Grind”.
Embracing his New York roots, Andras only sings in the chorus and spends the bulk of the song throwing down rap with motivational messages about working tirelessly for what you want.
Occasionally explicit, the lyrics feature clever rhyming and plenty of heat: “Walk up in the spot and we make it hot, Always on the grind and we never stop, We reachin for the stars going to the top, Speakers loud make em pop…”
As with so many on-trend songs charting globally, this starts off with a melodic piano intro.
But things swiftly shift as Andras launches into rap, channeling anger and control in equal measure.
The song crosses genre, mixing R&B, dubstep, pop and even rock, suggesting the Kállay Saunders Band — the KSB — are keen to forge a genre all their own.
The music video is something rather beautiful too. Andras’ manbun is certainly up for discussion, but we can’t fault his braiding skills.
Andras and his band have been in constant demand since A Dal, performing at musical festivals and gigs all over the country.
Most recently they performed at the Budapest Balcony Festival, where they were joined by fellow A Dal alums Passed.
The band rocked out on a stunning rootop overlooking the Hungarian capital, bringing edge and grit to the picturesque city.
