After three weeks of auditions, Round Two of Depi Evratesil kicked off last week. The panel of Eurovision veterans selected the first six artists to advance to the next round. Among them were Iveta’s 2016 backing vocalist Christina Mangasaryan and our favourite wrecking ball, Egine. Nine more artists performed this week, all in search of a spot in the judges’ teams.

In Round Two, the judges are selecting acts for their teams. Judges have the option of pressing their buzzer in the last ten seconds of each performance. The first judge to press their buzzer gets the artist on their team, with each judge looking for a total of four artists. If none of the judges press their button in this period, the contestant is eliminated from the competition.

As of last week, Aram MP3 had two artists on his team, while Anush Arshakyan had none. The other four judges had one artist each.

You can watch this week’s episode in full below.

Opening this week’s show at 6:20 was Vahe Aleksanyan. Following the trend of Eurovision covers, Vahe performed the Australian entry from 2015 — Guy Sebastian’s “Tonight Again“. Iveta was on her feet throughout the performance and both she and Essaï wanted Vahe on their teams. Ultimately, the “LoveWave” singer reacted fastest and got her man.Iveta

Also performing a Eurovision cover was Marissa, the third performer of the night. Starting at 17:50, she performed the Ukrainian entry from 2010 — Alyosha’s “Sweet People“. Unfortunately, Marissa did not earn a place in the next round. Anush said that with some more experience, she would love to work with Marissa in the future. Sadly, 2017 is not her year.

From “Sweet People” to “Sweet Dreams“, Arcvik covered Beyonce with one of the most impressive performances so far. Most of the judges tried to press their buttons but Essaï was fastest. He said that the first time he saw Arcvik on stage, he imagined her on the Eurovision stage. Will she win the competition and represent Armenia?

In total, five out of nine artists advanced this week. Stepan Hovhannisyan joined Team Anush, while Anna Danielyan joined Team Hayko. Meanwhile, Jujo joined Team Aram, channelling her inner Joan Franka, complete with a gigantic headpiece.

The current teams are:

  • Aram MP3 — Lucy, Saro Gevorgyan and Jujo
  • Inga — Suzanna Melkonyan
  • Essaï — Opera Viva and Arcvik
  • Iveta — Christina Mangasaryan and Vahe Aleksanyan
  • Hayko — Egine and Anna Danielyan
  • Anush — Stepan Hovhannisyan

Round Two continues next week as the judges add to their teams.

The DOUBLE cultural appropriation in the head photo, though! Kylie Jenner wearing cornrows appropriating black culture (what is she even doing there?) and that girl posing as a Native American – racisme racisme racisme! It was almost cute when Joan Franka did it in 2012, but we’re in 2016, Armenia sis…

LMAO OH MY GOD.

That headdress literally made me spew the pretzel chips I was eating all over my computer screen.

Thanks, Wiwi. I needed that laugh.
