They were the televote favourite of Eurovision 2015 and have only grown in popularity since Vienna. Now Italian popera trio Il Volo are showing a new side, with a spicy photoshoot in Rolling Stone Italia magazine. They embrace biker style, with Piero especially showing fans a new bad-boy image.
The November edition of the Italian music magazine shows a new side of Il Volo, with the trio looking rough and ready in black leather and grease. The three Italian stallions have been teasing fans by posting pics from the shoot to their Instagram accounts.
Gianluca is channelling the spirit of Marlon Brando in the classic biker film The Wild One. He is quite the junior leather daddy, looking bold in shiny black leather and chains.
Ignazio looks to have been taking style cues from Greta Salóme and is rocking a breastplate with black tassels. While he is also wearing black leather trousers and a leather jacket, Ignazio brings Italian swagger to the look. With the jacket worn loosely draped over his shoulders, Ignazio would be just at home enjoying an espresso at a Milano coffee house than he would hitting the road.
But the Il Volo member that has all the fans talking is Piero. Gone are his cheerful red spectacles. Instead he’s rocking stubble, chains, shoulder pads and a pure blue steel gaze — and not much else in the way of clothes. It’s also apparent that Piero has been working out and is very happy to show off his athletic physique.
Some Il Volo fans have been taken aback by Piero’s sexy new image, with one commenting that “seeing pubic hair on this picture really is against what classic music is all about”.
But most fans are loving Piero’s hot new look, with comments including “Omg Baby you look so hot!! I wanna lick you”, “OMG!! So sexy”, “OH MY GOD I JUST CANT HANDLE IT” (in fact, “Oh my God” in many different European languages) and plenty of heart-eyes emojis.
The magazine also features an interview with the trio. They’re promoting their new live album, Notte Magica – A Tribute to The Three Tenors, and Piero says that as a boy, he was always inspired by Pavarotti. Gianluca adds that people didn’t think that three guys in their early 20s could handle that sort of music — but Il Volo have just gone ahead and done it.
The interview mentions their heavy touring schedule, sometimes even spending five months away from home. Gianluca says they always look forward to returning home.
The trio also find the time to name-drop, mentioning having celebs encounters like Ignazio high-fiving Steven Tyler, Gianluca noticing tiny Tom Cruise’s high shoes, and Piero chatting about hairdressers with Barbra Streisand (“With divas, you talk about diva things.”).

I’m a 72 year old woman and these guys can do anything and I would love, love, love them. These photos in Rolling Stone Italia stretched things a bit, but that’s what good art does. I am disappointed with the photo’s. That’s not Il Volo. The home type photo’s and video’s on You Tube, on stage, at the beach, at home, and in interviews are much much better than the photo’s for the magazine? The problem though is that some people base their opinions on stereotypes that say (for example) “Rock music is amazing, pop is crap”. I have to admit that I was taken back by the photo of Piero. I am sure he didn’t have to show so much. These three want to appeal to the younger crowd but I thought it was through music. Eww! This is not sexy, this is disgusting! I never liked these three, they are so overrated.
I love Il Volo and Piero especially, but think these photos are just far too stylised and photoshopped to be sexy, unlike the candid natural ones they post on their own social media accounts, which are always so much better. These magazines often have no idea about these things, so it’s a bit of a lost opportunity.
I actually prefer Piero with his glasses on… and clothes too.
