He’s the artist responsible for giving Hungary their best result in the past 20 years. Now András Kállay-Saunders is teasing a return to Hungary’s national selection A Dal with his group, the Kállay Saunders Band.

In a post to social media, Kallay Saunders showed a pic of someone hard at work on a laptop with music production software, along with a black and white photo of himself wearing a promo jacket for Hungary at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Teasingly, he captioned the photo, “Hmmm…. To send or not to send”. The implication is that he has a Kállay Saunders Band song ready to enter in A Dal 2017.

Hmmm…. To send or not to send

The reaction from fans was overwhelmingly positive, with one excited commenter on Instagram demanding that Kallay Saunders should “Send it and bring Eurovision to Hungary!!!”

András Kállay-Saunders represented Hungary at Eurovision 2014, with the drum ‘n’ bass pop song “Running”. The uplifting message of an escape from domestic violence, as well as emotional staging delivered a fifth-place finish, Hungary’s second highest placing since their debut in 1993.

The son of Hungarian model Katalin Kállay and American soul singer Fernando Saunders returned to A Dal in 2016 with his rock group, the Kallay Saunders Band. Their song “Who We Are” made it to the grand final. Despite being a fan favourite, the song placed third after winner Freddie with “Pioneer” and runner up Gergö Oláh with “Gyöz a jó”.

Most recently, the Kállay Saunders Band have released the rock-rap track “#GRIND”, which may signal the direction a KSB song for A Dal entry would take.

If Kállay-Saunders does decide to return to A Dal, he will have ten days to get his entry in. The Hungarian national final is accepting applications until Sunday, 20 November.

What do you think? Should Kállay Saunders return to A Dal? Could he win Eurovision for Hungary? Share your thoughts below!

“Running” was a great song but “Who We Are” was awful! If he decides to participate I hope he sends something more than screaming…

Don’t like his voice at all. The vocal is not that strong.

never been a big fan of kallay-saunders
who we are was overhyped
I think Eurovision shouldn’t rely on returning artists that much anymore

I loved his 2014 entry, I had that in my Top 5. Also “Who we are” was a good song, didn’t like the live version tho. I’d be glad to see him back again, but of course with something great as “Running”. 🙂

Budapest2018? Back in 2014, I was supporting Budapest2015, so I would be extremely excited if he gets to Eurovision again

I love András. Fantastic voice, and great artistry. Hungary is the one country I want to see winning along with the Czech Republic and Lithuania, so I hope they serve us the bop of the year in 2017.

I would definitely welcome the most beautiful man of ESC 2014 back to the stage. His song as well as his sex appeal completely won me over in Copenhagen and Hungary was in my top 5. Since 2014, they have not sent the most inspiring of songs, so a return for Andras would be a great thing, provided his song is as good as his last attempt.

Well based on the song solely he or the Common Linnets should have won.
Since we gotta switch things up from the same hosts I would be looking forward to Budapest hosting the whole thing.
