loreen-melodifestivalen-2017-interview

She won Eurovision 2012 in a landslide with “Euphoria” — one of the most commercially successful winners ever.

And on Wednesday Loreen took the Eurovision fandom by storm yet again as SVT revealed that she will return to the contest five years after her victory.

Loreen, whose subsequent hits include “We Got The Power” and “Paper Light”, will sing “Statements” in the fourth heat in Skellefteå.

Loreen — full name Lorine Zineb Nora Talhaoui — told wiwiblogger Daniel Oliver that she isn’t concerned about winning.

“We don’t have time aiming for the win,” she says. “It’s all about the music. It’s all about communicating the right thing. Remember that music unites us. I don’t have time to think about the competition. I’m always standing on square one.”

She may not be thinking about the win, but she certainly has a winning team behind her.

Loreen co-wrote the song with Anton Hård af Segerstad, Joy Deb and Linnea Deb — the team behind Måns Zelmerlöw’s Eurovision 2015 winner “Heroes”.

And can we expect a new album soon?

“My friends are going to kill me now. But yes, yes, yes — it’s coming!”

In retrospect Loreen has had Eurovision on her mind a lot lately.

In September she appeared on the Eurovision cruise from Helsinki to Tallinn and she reprised her song “Euphoria”.

But her return isn’t without worry, and many fans have suggested that there is no possible way for her to match the heights of 2012. Some have even wondered aloud whether her return is a sign of desperation, since her subsequent songs haven’t experienced that much chart success.

As for me, I’m all about Loreen returning. She sets a high bar for herself and she wouldn’t be entering unless she was ready to unleash some major slayage. She’s an artist who likes to perform and I don’t think the only measure of success should be whether she can “outdo” her last effort. Can’t an artist just perform because she likes performing, and compete because the hype is good regardless of the outcome? The fact that we’re all sitting here talking about her suggests she’s already scored a victory in the p.r. stakes.

If Loreen has a good song, she should win Melfest. She’s an outstanding live performer. After that, the other Eurovision contenders all have to have crisis meetings. Could anybody actually beat Loreen at her best? Hard to imagine, unless Australia sends Sia or Kylie. 🙂

This gives me mixed feelings … a) On one hand I know how great she is and how remarkable her music is surpassing the kitsch and average level that usually trademarks Eurovision … which explains very well why her Euphoria managed to win back in 2012 … both the song and performer are not the mirror of all the cliches that everybody has created within the Eurovision universe specially after the 2000-televoting era … b) On the other hand she might not care about the pressure to outdo Euphoria and I believe she’s not into it … yet … using… Read more »

This is such a nice Christmas present for us fans 🙂

A lot of the time artist only enter melodifestivalen for exposure and not to actually win.

I’m sure loreen has entered this year because she wants to show her new music to her fans.
Also on social media fans always ask her to return to melodifestivalen.

I’m so happy she’s back and I’m certain that loreen would never enter melfest unless she has a great song.

“She’s an artist who likes to perform and I don’t think the only measure of success should be whether she can “outdo” her last effort. ”

In line with that, her “I’m In It With You” was criticized for having the same style as her old materials, so yeah.

And I think that really makes her special in the music industry.

No one expects it to be as good as Euphoria, nothing will top that.
But Loreen wouldn’t do it unless the song is a masterpiece. Son bring it on queen!

I predict that Loreen won’t choose a necessarily uptempo song, maybe a song in the same vein as Sound of Silence by Dami Im, or I’m In It With You, be great if she sang something with a more The Weeknd vibe

Heal was kinda underwhelming, but her latest singles are promising. Let’s see what the good sis has to offer.

It’s evident she needs Melfest (and maybe even Eurovision) as platforms to relaunch her career and promote her new album, which has been a long time coming. She wouldn’t be here otherwise.

Why does Loreen look so much different than her 2012 self?

I say just let her perform. Winning it all is just gonna be that extra bonus if it happens to land on your lap. Melfest is a celebration of music anyway that just happens to be an ESC qualifier.

The exposure being on the show alone would certainly help artists to put themselves out there.

Finally… Her debut album was monotonous but the material she’s been releasing lately is better

The only one who stands a chance of doing well at Eurovision is Loreen – none of the others are good performers and some aren’t even good singers!
