Fernando Daniel The Voice Portugal Eurovision 2016

Few can take on Adele’s songs and do them justice. That is not the case for Fernando Daniel. His blind audition in The Voice Portugal went viral in one day, now has over 7 million views and even made headlines in Spain. Now Portuguese fans are suggesting that broadcaster RTP should internally select Fernando for Eurovision.

From Aveiro to Lisbon and slaying around the world, the new Portuguese sensation is the frontrunner to win this year’s edition of The Voice — which started its live shows last weekend. Teaming up with Portuguese-Latino star Mickael Carreira, the game is on for Mr Daniel. Holla!

It only took one second for two mentors to turn their chairs and face Fernando as he belted out Adele’s “When We Were Young”. Powerful, emotional and moving — his voice delivers 100% and 24/7 while transporting you to another world. Fernando gets it, honey!

Of course all this buzz around the newcomer hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Portuguese Eurovision community. Some Eurofans think RTP should ditch the old-fashioned Festival da Canção as its selection method for Kyiv and just handpick delicious Fernando.

Just give him the song — he already has fan support. More than 40,000 likes on Facebook, almost 35,000 followers on Instagram and 15,500 on Twitter — and we’re only at the beginning of his road to stardom. Of course we want that road to continue with Eurovision after he’s announced as the winner of The Voice of Portugal!

Fans have been voicing their support on social media:

Fernando Daniel, if you’re reading this tweet, PARTICIPATE in Festival da Canção 2017! Portugal needs you in #Eurovision #TheVoicePT

Portugal, send him to Eurovision. Amazing!

Fernando Daniel joins other Portuguese names in the rumour mill for the Iberian nation, joining the likes of Rui Andrade, David Carreira and Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro.

What do you think about Fernando? Do you think he would be able to bring Portugal its best result ever? Tell us below!

For the zillionth time … people … RTP does not care how much Eurovision has changed over the past 15 years and how gay it has become …they don’t care that everybody sings in English or bring turkey puppets to the stage …. RTP would never play the swedish-made pop music game … RTP only concern out of pride and conviction is to still make the Portuguese music and culture shared and broadcast for the whole world to see … cause the majority of the Portuguese a) rarely pay attention to what’s on RTP b) no longer follow Eurovision since… Read more »

I really doubt they will send him with an english song. Of course, if they chose him.

Sorry folks… it’s addition, not adiction. Me and my lack of attention, haha…

And more: I’d like to see Aurea, Amor Electro, Mimicat, even one of Carreira Brothers…

Portugal is full of good singers, modern and rich culturally music. In adiction of these, there are producers who have real interest to create great entries for Eurovision. We cannot consider Festival da Canção as the only guilty for Portuguese faults in the contest. The real concern still called RTP and its old-fashioned ideas… If there’s no corruption inside the internal selection, Portugal will be its best artists wanting to represent the country.

Fernando, yes please. I have doubts about RTP’s commitment to Eurovision though, honestly. But do please prove me wrong.

It’s been awhile since Portugal has sent a male singer, so why not. But the most important part is that ‘IT’ factor of the song combined with the stage presence of the singer. I admit, after all, it would be so cool if this year countries like Portugal, Albania, Czech Republic and Iceland are the best ones and fan-favorites. It has to be a turn for other countries than the usual Top-teners.

He seems to be good singer, so it might be an interesting idea. But it all depends on the song.
However I’d rather want to see Amor Electro or Raquel Guerra at Eurovision stage

I don’t think the reason of Portugal’s unsuccessful attempts at Eurovision is the singer. The problem is the song, they don’t send a good song.

I really wanted Katy Perry (Catarina Pereira), but if the good sis Fernando can serve something good, I won’t complain.
