Round Four of Depi Evratesil took place this weekend, pitting the final twelve contestants against each other in the ongoing death match to sing for Armenia at Eurovision 2017. The three-month long competition is in its final stretch and the competition is getting fierce. We’re talking ferocious. Our star-studded judging panel had some incredibly difficult decisions to make with only six spots in the semi-finals up for grabs.

In Round Four, the remaining two artists from each team battled against one another, leaving just one artist standing on each team. However, the stakes were even higher this week as the mentoring judge had the sole power to decide who won each duel. Yes, mama and papa had to kill one of their own chidlren. Talk about a big decision!

You can watch this week’s episode in full below.

The first duel featured Team Iveta, pitting Hasmik Siroyan against Vahe Aleksanyan. Hasmik has been a perennial favourite among our readers and received a very memorable and borderline cray reaction from Iveta in Round Two. Hasmik chose to cover Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” while Vahe covered “Radioactive“.

The judges felt that Hasmik’s song choice was risky and it didn’t pay off, with Iveta making the shock decision to send Vahe to the semi-finals. The decision has been met with plenty of criticism on social media, with many fans seeing Hasmik as the clear winner of the competition. Nevertheless, Iveta’s decision was final and Hasmik became the first shock casualty of Round Four.

Up next was Team Inga, with Syuzanna Melkonyan taking on Gevorg Harutyunyan. After two fabulous performances, the judges praised Syuzanna’s growth in the competition. Gevorg was praised for his artistic performances and acting skills. Ultimately, Inga chose to send Syuzanna to the semi-finals.

Team Hayko was next, with Team Wiwi favourite Egine battling against the powerful Anna Danielyan. After dazzling us with her cover of “Burnin’ Up” last week, Egine once again covered Jessie J. Singing “Sexy Silk“, Egine served more showgirl realness. Egine’s vocals continue to improve and there is no question that she has more stage presence than any other contestant. Anna covered Adele’s “Rumour Has It” and was vocally flawless.

In this battle between Anna’s flawless vocals and Egine’s energy, the latter came out on top. Egine is in the Final Six and one step closer to representing Armenia at Eurovision.

Team Essaï took part in the fourth duel, with Opera Viva battling Arcvik. Opera Viva have been flying under the radar with their strong vocals, while Arcvik has always been a favourite among our readers. Our readers’ favourite won the day with her cover of “Stand Up For Love“, earning her a place in the semi-finals. Arcvik has some of the most powerful vocals of the competition and remains a strong contender to win.

Aram’s team had the most intense duel of the round, with heavyweight contenders Lilit Harutyunyan and Lucy doing battle. In the last round, Lucy dazzled us with her cover of “Euphoria”, while Lilit followed suit with “Price Tag”. In another shock decision, Aram chose to send Lucy to the semi-finals after her stirring cover of “Say Something“. This is yet another decision which may raise a few eyebrows, as Lilit seemingly had the whole package to represent Armenia at Eurovision. Despite her incredible performances, 2017 won’t be her year.

The final duel was on Team Anush, with Marta battling against Alexander Plato. Despite her enormous voice, Marta has sailed under the radar in the competition, while Alexander Plato has grabbed plenty of attention for his unconventional performances, which toe the line between pure genius and completely crazy. In yet another intense duel between two very different artists, Marta became the last semi-finalist. With big names such as Hasmik and Lilit eliminated, it might finally be Marta’s time to shine.

With Round Four now over, the remaining contestants are:

  • Aram MP3 — Lucy
  • Inga — Suzanna Melkonyan
  • Essaï — Arcvik
  • Iveta — Vahe Aleksanyan
  • Hayko — Egine
  • Anush — Marta

The semi-final takes place next week with only six contestants left in the competition. This is the final stretch — who will win Depi Evratesil and represent Armenia at Eurovision?

Hasmik – great loss. Lilit – not a good choice, sorry. I can’t believe I am saying this about her (her first performance, Heaven, was one of the best things I have never ever seen, really), but she loses control all the time and doesn’t seem able to keep it together on stage. My hopes are on Arcvik. She really has it all for the Eurovision. I also love Syuzanna. Rest is just not as good. And please don’t send Egine, she’s good at giving spectacle and so on, but her Wrecking Ball performance should have been enough to kick… Read more »

For me personally hasmik voice is the best one from the whole competition and i think she sang Michael Jackson pretty well but i respect others opinions that they think her performance wasn’t her best however the guy was terrible compared to hasmik and this is hard to deny considering that this was one of hasmik “not so great performances” as the jury thinks and if they were fair they would have chosen hasmik and i 100% understand why people fight for her – she simply deserves it

People, calm down. For some of you Hasmik or Lilit are the best, for others – Artsvik. My favorite is Artsvik.
Speaking about Hasmik. Really she was great when singing Polish songs. But her last performance was not great, neither the guy was good. None of them were going to win. Same was at Ukrainian competition. Hasmik was great when singing Cheslav Niemen’s songs, but she failed singing other songs. I do like her polish singing, and from time to time I listen this. But she still needs to improve…

Looks like armenians are about to throw their “omg queen” /envious step mom (however you prefer) under the bus to save their princess – nice fairytale- #corruption as already mentioned the show is an indirect fraud

The thing is just that everything in the national final is set up. Everybody already knows that Arcvik is going to win the show, because her daddy payed for it! So all the jufges have to kick the good ones like Lilit and Hasmik out, so that it will get easier gor Arcvik to win. I like Arcvik and I love the idea of the national final – but I hate corruption and the way the judges and everybody else acts even though everything is already set up. Sad true! Welcome to Armenia.

While I’d have chosen Hasmik over Vahe as many others would have done, I don’t encourage people critisizing Iveta too harshly, well I mean we can speculate about the reasons underlying her decision but we can’t know for sure. I especially don’t believe that she’d have done it out of being envious for she has absolutely everything not to envy any woman in this world. And I’m sure Hasmik’s gonna succeed big time soon. So less drama, please. And I am pretty sure the televoting and the international jury will choose a worthy candidate. While Hasmik is great she is… Read more »

As for Iveta… I think it was a women’s envy. Everybody knows what a long way Iveta done for Eurovision. Hasmik is beautiful, kind and great singer. Iveta does not want to give a chance to artist for Eurovision who better than she. She wants to be the one and only. I think so. It’s so funny when she deletes people’s comments. Yes, you can delete our comments. But you can’t delete your bad reputation now, because is not possible. At first. This is not a national selection, because from the people have taken away the right to choose. Secondly.… Read more »

@Purple Mask, from this Saturday the live shows will start and the public will have a word. There will be 3 semi-finals and 1 final (on 24th December). And according to ARMTV’s commentator of JESC2016, there will be an international jury, since they’ve mentioned Björkman. o.O

Egine can sing?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Have you even heard “Sledgehammer” and her first audition? She couldn’t hit a single note! Elhaida Dani all over again!

And please, don’t delete my comment or censore it, but Iveta needs to find a male prostitute and f**k with him. Only a woman who didn’t have sex for a long period of time can choose Vahe (who even forgot the lyrics) over Hasmik, who slayed.

@Michael

First paragraph “If you don’t like something, don’t comment on it”
Second paragraph “THE ARMENIAN SELECTION IS A FRAUD!”

LMAO. Someone apparently is incapable of taking their own advice.

And for those of you who weren’t quite sure what I’m on about, last week a few chippy idiots went off about how wiwi never covered Hasmik (which was factually untrue) and it wasn’t fair because rigged or whatever. And now her elimination leads the headline. That’s pretty hilarious in my book.

At the first, @Pollanski, calm down. And stop to provoke people. Everyone has their own opinion, which he can express. If you don’t like something, just don’t comment it. All the best to you.
Secondly, the Armenian selection – is a fraud! It is a theater production with real people, but where the ending is known. Artsvik will win. Why? Just turn on Google translator and you’ll find all out for yourself. All of you are deceived. The money involved in this.

@Chris – Armenia has done quite well with their ESC productions in the past. Last year’s entry was completely done in-house so they definitely have the ability to do a big production, the issue with Egine is that she signs great in low key but when she hits the high notes she has a very unpleasant voice. So they need to pick a song that’s sung in low key which will be a ballad. But when you send someone like Egine, you wanna give her an up-tempo song to put her dance moves to use. So, it’s sort of a… Read more »

I think Hasmik was left out cause of jealousy on Iveta’s part. No female singer would send another strong singer to ESC who’s on the same level, and possibly end up at a better position in the final. I think she felt threatened.

Egine would be perfect with the right song and cool production which not a lot of people in Armenia can do unfortunately. If they do choose her I’m sure they will give her a really crappy song. Hasmik and Lilit should’ve never been thrown out and have lasted till the end. Vahe? Are you serious? Worst from the bunch. Lucy might have a strong voice at times, but she definitely does NOT stand out. Artsvik is the best one from the bunch I think, but could face the same problem as Egine, meaning a wrong song will get chosen. They… Read more »

Armenians really love Hasmik. They even have already signed a petition for her return. I am not Armenian, but I like her too. Every her performance was unforgettable. My favorite is when she sang the Beyonce’s song “Runnin”. It was a wow! Armenian Irina Shayk with a gorgeous voice. It is a pity that she is not passed to the semi-final. But I think she has a great future! Because she has a lot of support.

I am not surprised why Lucy passed. Because she is a best friend of Aram Mp3 and her husband is a clipmaker and her producer, actually. Her vocal is weak. Armenian selection is unfair, because there is no audience voting. The organizers have chosen “their people” and dragged them into the semi-final. If it was audience voting, then everything would be different.
