I’m really hoping that the second semi songs will be better than the lot we have here. To be honest, I was really excited for the indie/hipster vibes Eesti Laul gives us every other year, but considering how such a song performed last year, I can understand the changes. I should say, however, that some of the commenters here need to chill out and wait a little before they spit the dummy. I’m somewhat disappointed for this round, but that’s only because my expectations were so high the first time. Now that I think about it, none of the songs… Read more »

I don´t really think any song has the necessary “Wow!”-effect this year for us. I would like Supernatural, if the lyrics weren´t so corny – and if all the radio stations weren´t already flooded with similar music. Uku is trying to ride the trend, but it is too much of a clone and too little his. Elina Born is quite good, but it is too much “a song you can expect” from Stig who wrote the melody (and is prob playing that guitar on the background?) and Elina and doesn´t really surprise. Hey Kiddo is pretty interesting if they can… Read more »

Nice to see I’m not the only one who immediately thought of “Closer” when I heard “Have You Now”. “Closer” inexplicably became the biggest hit of last year, so that might be a good sign. Based on just a first listen I really liked “Vaian pisaraid” and “Hey kiddo” – but that’s because they’re most like what I expected to get from Estonia. “Hey kiddo” is very light and fluffy and it’s definitely not groundbreaking, but I enjoyed it. I can’t stand “Supernatural” and I thought “Everything but you” was thoroughly bland. “Feel me now” sort-of jumped out as an… Read more »

Come on people these are very good songs. You don’t like them because they are different than what Estonia usually has. It’s totally another level up. But if ESC fans are whining it shows that Eesti Laul is doing a pretty good job because let’s be honest ESC fans taste is kinda… lame most of the time.

I didn’t like ANY of these 10 songs unfortunately.
But since i HAD to vote in the poll anyway, about the ones that stand out
as the ‘better’ songs in the bunch, my vote went to these 2 songs:
”In Or Out” & ”Feel Me Now”

Eesti Laul, fill my soul. Bring it bae <3 Laura Prits – Hey Kiddo: Mmm those high high Eesti production values <3 This is good. Not 'holy snowcone get this to Kyiv' good, but enjoyable, well-written, and well put together. Sort of loses purpose post-bridge. 7/10 Lenna Kuurmaa – Slingshot: Ooh she can sing. And more top notch production, they're like the Swedes with a bit more… realness. Humanity. Like, this is a good song, sung well, bit repetitive, but it works cos there's a drive and a little bit of grit that moves this from plastic pop ballad into… Read more »

The link is broken for one of the songs – I can’t access Janno Reim & Kosmos.
Actually I really like “Everything but you” by Carl-Philip – I’m jealous because I wish I wrote it; that’s my 80’s sound!! 🙂
Also, the “Slingshot” song is ok. “Supernatural” might also do quite well.
Good luck to everyone. x

Carl-Phillip. The end.

Since yesterday I have that song on repeat. Also, it ain’t your likely choice for an ESC song. Also, very promising radio-friendly song for the summer, 2017. Nicely done.

But of course, it won’t win. :/

Was completely expecting to be let down by Elina after everyone saying it’s nothing special, but I love it! Yes the sax + guitar backing sounds a little dated and the sax didn’t need to be there, but the chorus is so stomp-worthy and full of tension, makes me want to strut to the front of the floor and dance. Her voice also really commands the song. Lenna is another standout, it gave me a ‘million voices’ vibe, not lyrically but I felt uplifted and thank god there was a good high-note climax at the end there, really helps the… Read more »

I must say I have listened the songs at least twice and I can’t remember them! I was expecting a higher level from Eesti Laul, so I hope the 2nd semi brings us something better … From this bunch there are two songs that appeal to me:
1. Carl-Philip – “Everything But You”
2. Karl-Kristjan & Whogaux feat. Maian – “Have You Now”

So why did you compare Have You Now to the Postal Service, when it sounds nothing like them, and very much like the Chainsmokers? Maybe I’m a bit too invested, since I love the Postal Service, and I hate the Chainsmokers (just like I hate this song).

I think in terms of songwriting, Carl-Philip has the best song, although its a bit cliched of course. It’s the only one I could hear played on radio stations across Europe.

Polegend Godgarina, sooo true…

A big part of EuroFans will place Kerli #1 of Eesti Laul.
A big part of EuroFans will place Loreen #1 of Melodifestivalen.
A big part of EuroFans will place Maja Keuc #1 of EMA.
EuroFans are so predictable, maybe some of them are deaf…

inb4 Kerli sends a bland song but y’all will force yourselves to like it just because it’s Kerli and she eventually wins the Laul based on her name but Europe ain’t feeling it and pulls a Kate Ryan on her.

I’m appalled to see Elina Born’s tragic song getting so many votes just because it’s her. Such an overrated artist with bland and forgettable material. That song screams last place in the semi-final too (I called it for Play last year and y’all didn’t listen lmao).

Lenna’s song is the only outstanding one. The rest? Not a chance. Especially the Closer by The Chainsmokers and Halsey cover and the Felix Jaehn remix by Ariadne, ew.

I couldn’t pick a favorite I liked almost all of them. A wonderful and stylish selection of songs and I think the Eesti Laul is positioning itself as one of Europe’s best and most original NFs.

Well elina is leading the poll just because of the names attached to the song and not the song itself……I like ‘slingshot’ and ‘have you now’….’hey kiddo’ is also decent.None of the songs are bad but they have a low dispersion so none are great as well.

@Chance
Closer is a song by the chainsmokers(featuring halsey) and ‘have you now’ has multiple elements in common with it…..except its slower and the duet section is not very in-sync……so it doesn’t reach the same level as closer.

i hate having an unpopular opinion but 1. valan pisaraid (a little weird but overall my aesthetic) 2. ariadne (i also realize it sounds a little like slow burn by made in heights??? really cool and chill in general) 3. have you now (same sound as ariadne’s song but a little cheaper) 4. supernatural (guilty pleasure) 5. carl-philip (twee but in a good way) 6. suur loterii (call me crazy but it sounds like a modern take on old 60’s-70’s eurovision and i love it) 7. lenna kuurmaa (i feel bad because rapunzel is one of my fave eesti laul… Read more »

Lenna, Elina, Ariadne, Karl-Kristjan & Whogaux ft. Maian are the ones I like the most. Others are kinda decent as well, but I absolutely hate Janno Reim & Kosmos. I’m expecting the 2nd semi-final to be much stronger.
