brequette nieves hidalgo eurocasting

The Christmas holidays are almost upon us. But for Eurovision fans in Spain this is not a time for rest. That’s because Eurocasting — the Internet phase of Spain’s drawn-out and somewhat convoluted national selection Objetivo Eurovision 2017 — will close its voting lines tonight. That means we’ll know which three acts have made it to the online webcast competition tomorrow.

Since December 1 we’ve received a total of 3,812 votes in our poll, “Who should sing in the final of Objetivo Eurovision 2017?”

If our readers are any indicator of how Spaniards will vote, then Brequette, Nieves Hidalgo and Javián are poised to battle it out for the wildcard to RTVE’s national selection show.

Mira quien va a Eurovision 2014 runner-up Brequette and The Voice of Spain veteran Nieves Hidalgo finished in a tie, both receiving 560 votes. This has never happened in any of our polls in the seven years we’ve been running them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXq4Es1QmVY

Brequette, whose 2014 song “Mas (Run)” remains one of the most well-received entries ever with the Wiwi Jury, is hugely popular among Spanish Eurofans, and her success in the Eurocasting seems like a foregone conclusion. She’s collaborated with Eurovision 2016 star Barei and Barei’s partner for her song “No Enemy”.

Her entry is perhaps the most contemporary of all entries in Spain thus far. And she made the wise decision to revamp the entry after the original version received warranted criticism, including from us.

The new entry has more shape and dynamism and it manages to captivate the listener for the entire three minutes. This is a nice improvement over the original. We really love it.

Nieves Hidalgo’s “Esclava” wasn’t among the Top 3 picks from our team on first listen.

However, it has clearly struck a chord with voters in our poll. The song has a very Old World sound, replete with symphonic orchestra. It works well with Nieves’ rich and melodic voice and serves a bit of Vânia Fernandes Portugal Eurovision 2008 “Senhora do mar (Negras águas) realness.

Spain’s Eurocasting: wiwibloggs poll results

I don’t know how anyone can think Nieves being joint top is a bad thing. I think it’s a very good song. And not the usual genre we see at Eurovision.

Nicky Triphook by far. Reasons: – Seen him live doing Mika and this guy has and extraordinary voice (absolutely BLOWN away by his performance, check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvHpdYpvIIU) – The song has this Bruno, Amy and even Mika sound and vibe – They wont be many songs like this in Kiev, this means: People would remember this. – With a cool performance this will STAND OUT from many others, this is not a winner, but this is the only top 10 that Spain has right now. If Spaniards choose Leklein or Brequette it will simply be a disaster because every… Read more »

The one I like the most is “GIO”.
Brequette has nothing to do in Eurovision with that song, but I think its a good song.

@Marc Thanks for sharing your opinion in a good mood. I see we have the same background view about Spain in ESC, although we differ in some points. Hopefully, thinks will be better in the future for our country!

Sorry @Robyn! Finished 🙂

Have a good week ^^

If I were sorry”, ‘”you are… Read more »

@Polegend Godgarina I also think some Spanish eurofans are really annoying, praising our songs and despising others countries to extreme limits. That’s a problem I know and give us a bad name, but we have the same problem internally, some fans are extremely disgusting while commenting the songs they don’t like… this is what I’m complaining about. Yes, as you say probably if Say Yay was Swedish it would have received a lot of points from the jury… or if it was Russian, a lot of points from the televote. That’s unfair for us. I’m still dissapointed about Pastora, her… Read more »

@ Héctor – I do think that the Spanish Eurovision fans tend to get a little bit… annoying I’d say? Which leads the others to provoke them. Like, I see really fanatic comments on YouTube (even more than the Russian and the Turks who tend to get heated too), which don’t give the Spanish fans a good name. But seriously, apart from Quédate conmigo (18th place in televote is still a disgusting crime), y’all haven’t sent anything that will make the average viewer want to spend their coins on voting for it. Let’s be real – had Say Yay been… Read more »

Read more »

I like Brequette’s song. I think it’s also my number 1 out of these 30 songs.
I also like the fact that Nieves Hidalgo is 2nd in this poll. I am not sure how it could’ve happen, but still I really like that song and I am happy that not only typical europop songs could be high on wiwibloggs poll

I don’t like Brequette’s song. It is boring for me. I don’t find it even a little bit interesting. Anyway I think that the names which will fight for the National final are in first 12 places. The rest has no chances in my opinion but we will see.
By the way I’m still in love with Javi Soleil song 😀 and I felt like I’m the only one but he has 99 votes so I’m not alone and it makes me feel very happy 🙂

Read more »

We could send a materpiece and people will still saying is a bottom 5 entry. If Sweden, Russia, Ukraine,… sent the same song, you would be fangirling around! Maybe Brequette’s song (or any song in the Eurocasting) isn’t a masterpiece or your cup of tea, but knowing Spain is always mistreated at Eurovision, I will go for songs I LIKE, so I can be proud even with a bottom 5. It’s shameful reading comments from Spanish haters criticising or being extremely negative on news about Spain. So, for example @Marc, I would like to know what kind of song you… Read more »

My favorite is Javi Soleil. He has such a great song and his live performance is on point. I think people forgot about the fact that he already represented Spain at Eurovision back in 2007. Hopefully he got enough votes to qualify.

Hi, William. Like you said the Spain National Selection is too convoluted, so that means people will get some of the facts wrong. Tomorrow we’re not going to know the acts who made it to the web show. In December 15 we’re going to know the top 10 act who will be judge by a jury panel. The jury will select the 3 act for the web show. So we will not know the acts for the web show until December 20-something
