His group Lighthouse X dramatically won the 2016 Danish national final against two fan favourites. Now the ex-boyband frontman Johannes Nymark returns to the scene of the crime, this time as the co-host of the 2017 edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. He’ll be joined by 2016 host Annette Heick.

Johannes and Annette: not vampires

Danish broadcaster DR yesterday confirmed that the hosts of DGMP 2017 will be Johannes Nymark and Annette Heick.

While Johannes is well known in Denmark as an actor and a musician, this will be his first time presenting Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. He told DR:

“I am really looking forward to helping lead a show where we are to both enjoy and celebrate Danish music. It will be really cool and huge, but also a little anxiety making, so I’m glad that I have Annette as a rock beside me.”

Annette Heick will return to co-host the show after presenting the show last year with television host Jacob Riising. She is known as a television personality, journalist, actress and singer. She is also the daughter of DMGP legends Keld and Hilda Heick.

Mamma Hilda was in the news earlier this year after it was revealed that she mistakenly misordered her Eurovision voting as part of the Danish jury. Hilda ranked Nika Kocharov and Young Georgian Lolitaz top, instead of her intended favourite Dami Im.

Johannes’ group Lighthouse X won the DGMP 2016 superfinal against fan favourites Anja Nissen and Simone. The boyband’s upbeat song “Soldiers of Love” won over Danish viewers and secured them the ticket to Stockholm.

But there they did not do so well. “Soldiers of Love” wasn’t a hit with the rest of Europe and placed second to last in its semi-final with only 34 points.

Lighthouse X later announced they were breaking up and played their final gig at Copenhagen Pride in August.

Broadcaster DR received 1115 entries for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017. From those entries, 10 have been selected to compete at the grand final in Jyske Bank Boxen Arena, Herning on 25 February. DR will reveal names of the artists and songs selected for DGMP 2017 at a later date.

But honestly I think what let Simone & Anja down the most were their stagings. So that’s why the public went for the song that had a ‘message’ instead.

Denmark could’ve won again this year if they decided not to choose another sausagefest act

Here we are at the end of the year and I’m still not over the fact that Simone got robbed! Heart Shaped Hole is a masterpiece without any doubts the best song I heard this year.

Problem I had with Lighthouse X’s live performance was that, it wasn’t engaging enough, nor was there much difference from how they performed in the Danish qualifiers. The song itself was good but is not a stand-out in a sea of highly competitive songs in the contest.

I can’t wait to hear what guitar-driven rock/folk song they’ll select this year! They’ve done that every single year since 2008 (excluding 2014) lmao

I demand a Simone come-back! She was robbed, “Heart Shaped Hole” is probably the best song of the year!

They split so soon after Eurovision seems to suggest there were some issues even during esc ……so maybe that put them out of sync.

I really hope DR have made some changes to prevent a second rate boy band winning again

@Kris, yeah he’s the curved one, as well as being the hot one lol.

But yeah, I really liked their NF performance. Does anyone know if they were singing along with a backing track? Because I don’t know what could’ve happened between them harmonizing so well and hitting high notes in the NF, to singing low and off-key and not at all well during their eurovision one…

I hope it’s not a 3-way showdown final again. If two equally-persuasive or powerful entries make that final, they will cancel each other out and the dud will sneak in and win it.

They’d better make it a head-to-head final this time around.
