Eurodrama at its best! On December 20 RTVE revealed the three remaining acts who had survived the second cull of its Eurocasting. The final ten were cut to the final three, and we are sad to report that Brequette — fan favourite on our web site and in the general fandom — is not among them.

The first cull — from 30 to 10 — was determined by an Internet vote, but the second phase — from 10 to three — has been in the hands of a professional jury.

They sent home the curly-haired singer from Gran Canaria, saying nay to her sexy club number “No enemy”. Six other acts — Nicky Triphook, Rebeca Moss, Nieves Hidalgo, Pedro Elipe, Nito and Romy Low — also got the chop. ¡Adiós amiga!

And it’s still not over. We are heading to the highlight of this successful web selection which will see the three remaining wildcard hopefuls — LeKlein, Fruela and Javian — battle it out in the Eurocasting Final, which will take place on January 12 in Madrid. It will be streamed online for your enjoyment, and to stress you out.

The winner gets a golden ticket for Objetivo Eurovision — Spain’s national final, which is set for February 1. He or she will then square off against a series of artists handpicked by RTVE — Mirela and Paula Rojo are among the rumoured acts with an invite to compete!

The rules state that those who enter the wildcard cannot enter the closed-door internal selection process. HOWEVER, owing to the Internet meltdown currently taking place over Brequette’s exit, we kindly ask RTVE to burn their rules. You made them. Now break them!

It’ll be another month before we have THE name. But before that glorious moment comes, why not let RTVE know what YOU think. You can vote in our poll at the bottom of this post. You can only vote for ONE act and you can only vote one time, so make it count.

While many fans will be fuming over Brequette’s exit, the three finalists all have big support behind them. In fact, all three made our Eurocasting Top 3 video, which we filmed when the 30 candidates were revealed.

Eurocasting Final: Running Order

1. Javián

2. Fruela

3. Leklein

EUROCASTING: THE TOP 3

LEKLEIN WITH “OUCH!”

Her hook may sound painful — Ouch! — but her contemporary production, solid delivery and edgy looks have made her a firm fan favourite. She felt the love and answered it with a slick revamp of her entry, which is accompanied by an up-close and personal music video. Just look at those eyes and feel the heat!

The song has kept its Caribbean beats and has a glossier finish. The addition of some new sounds — digital and otherwise — help give this lift, particularly in the final “ouch, ouch, ouch” segment. She’s no longer in pain — or at least she’s happy to endure it.

FRUELA WITH “LIVE IT UP”

Singer, model and TV host Fruela has plenty of fans behind him. And they’re surely saying “yay!” after hearing his revamp, which showcases his deep and melodic voice perfectly. The chorus still features a lot of digital gimmickry and what sounds like an animated child’s voice. But the quality of the sound has improved considerably. Fruela and his team also added new sound effects that make “Live It Up” less monotonous towards the end. He polished a diamond and now he’s through!

JAVIÁN WITH “NO SOMOS HÉROES”

We crowned him as our favourite in our first review, and it seems that Javián is not in the competition just for the ride — he’s in it to win it! The Operación Triunfo alum released a fun music video for “No somos heroes”. The clip sees Javián performing with his band. It’s interspersed with footage of parents playing with their children — replete with pillow fights, day-to-day frustrations and bath time. Apparently, the song refers to his experiences with his daughter. The 42-year-old tells parents that they are not heroes. But maybe their children are, as the adults can’t live without their children’s love. Awww.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Brequette’s song from the get-go. The lyrics just didn’t connect with me.
LeKlein’s poor lyrics just turn me off when that chorus comes on.
Fruela’s song is fun, if somewhat generic.
Javian’s song makes me feel like getting up and dancing about my living room.

…I’ll admit I’d actually love to see a Spanish language song go to EV.

Everything is rather clear: if your aim for ESC is to show other peoples that you have your own native (or folk) music – you should send a song based on native music and language … but in that case be ready to stay in the bottom without any questions ‘why???’; but if your aim is to win EUROvision (or at least to reach any high place) – then you should send some EURO song … in English, so as people all over Europe could understand the lyrics and the style of the song – in that case they more… Read more »

#Hugh Maybe you don’t like “Ouch!!”, but you can’t say this song is not good because is good. The instrumental quality is not your personal taste.

LeKlein: Lyrics need to be given a rework by a native English speaker, rather desperately. Otherwise a meh song but she seems nice. 4/10 Fruela: I wanted it to be over about half way through, and it would be headed to the bottom of the board in Kyiv. Not trash, but not at all interesting. 3/10 Javian: Claramente lo mejor de los tres. Basically there’s a bit of fun here, it could actually fill a live stage, and I don’t think the same is true of the other two. 7/10 I didn’t like the Brequette song much either, but who… Read more »

It seems Spanish fans are looking for a more international sound, whereas international fans are looking for a more Spanish sound. Brequette’s song wasn’t very good, and like the two English language songs that are left, it was hurt by poor lyrics and poor pronunciation. Clearly the artist out of these three that would do best at Eurovision is Javian.

Why would you want to sound Swedish when a) you’re not very good at it and b) you have a great distinctive Spanish musical culture.

Although I like the beat of LeKlein’s song. The poor English lyrics are really distracting. I’m shocked Brequette didn’t make it through, but No Enemy was a little on the dull side. Very happy to see Javian through, and Fruela. Both songs aren’t perfect, but they are quite fun and could do well.

I’m surprised everyone loves Javian so much, tbh.
I never had great hope in this EuroCasting thing, but i felt like Brequette was the best son of these 30. Anyway, I’m sure this will not be our year neither…

Brequette was amazing! Spain needs to send a guy IN THE FUTURE. Brequette deserved to win, but maybe she will be selected later in the show. This year Barei was performing in between Ukraine and Russia, the top 2 in televoting, I wasn’t surprised with the result. If she doesn’t geth selected Spain will geth a bottom five result FOR SURE. It’s sad, I like Spain in Eurovision.

Javian for the win. It reminds me of that Galician/Celtic style which is very different and unique. This could attract votes from Northern Europe. With good staging this could be a fun, feel-good, laid-back song.

I have to agree with Mario Mario Spain have already made their minds up it will be the internal selection that will go to keiv,
But from these three none of them are Eurovision winners

I don’t like any of them. I doubt that any of these songs could place better than Barei during ESC. All of them are nothing special. If I really have to choose I’d go with LeKlein. But please – no Fruela. His song is terrible.
I miss Brequette and Nieves Hidalgo in webcast.

Glad about Fruela and Leklein, although I’m a bit sad about Brequette, but professional jury must have a logic criteria to make that decision, so I respect it. Mi ideal three would have been Leklein, Fruela and Brequette so that’s 2/3!

Don’t expect TVE to select internally Brequette, because brefore entering the #Eurocasting she sent the song to TVE, not being answered. So they aren’t interested, maybe as a result of Barei coments about the HoD Federico Llano.

My fav here is either Fruela o Leklein, ‘Live it up’ is better, but LeKlein’s style is more striking.

I am so upset that Brequette won’t be participating in the webcast for a spot in the final! I can only hope that RTVE sees the mistake and brings her back, especially if she was first in the online voting as she was thought to be I am sure.

Purely for the song’s technical content alone, “No Somos Heroes” should easily win this selection. (It’s not even close, I’m afraid.)
However, Leklein has a real Annie Lennox vibe about her that could see “Ouch!” do well, even though the song has numerous lyrical issues (due to the English language).

My theory: Brequette wasn’t selected so that she could be the wilcard for Objetivo Eurovisión, and Leklein could compete with her. Why?, you may ask: Even before the revamp Brequette was clarly the favourite to win Spanish national selection, but when LeKlein also entered the top 10, she was also gaining a lot of atention and people even liked like Brequette. If just one of them passed to the final people would be pissed off. Is this possible?: Probably not, but we already have the NO, so if it turns to be a YES, we we’ll be surprised, and if… Read more »

I hontesly cannot see what was so special about Brequette’s entry, and believe me when I say I supported her in 2014. When I have played the songs to my friends they have automatically chosen Leklein, alla of them, including my I-only-listen-to-spanish-music friend. Literally he said. 2It is the most compact pack song-candidate”. Having said this, I have to say I am not amongst those who felt something incredible, when I listened to Leklein’s song, although t is quite all right. I honestly do not support neither hate any of these songs…

I’m glad Brequete is out, it would failed like Say yay, No enemy isn’t strong enough to make top 10 in KIev in my opinion and is too techinal and doesn’t have a hook.
