Artsvik Winner Depi Evratesil

After weeks of auditions, several fierce duels and three live shows, the curtain has finally closed on Depi Evratesil — Armenia’s three-month long national selection. And standing in front of it is Artsvik, who won the night and will represent Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv.

The final featured two performances from both ladies and they did everything in their power to impress a jury of musicians from the Armenian diaspora musicians and the televoters at home.

Marta covered Rihanna’s “Only Girl (In The World)“. Her ongoing enunciation issues left many to wonder if she was actually singing in English. But vocally she took it up a notch, suggesting pressure brings out the best in her.

During the Armenian covers section she came into her own. She’s been incredibly versatile throughout the competition — Beyoncé one week, a traditional cover the next — and she proved to be a chameleon yet again tonight.

Playing to her own strengths, ballad queen Artsvik sang Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing“. And then she delivered her most stirring performance yet in the Armenian covers segment. Artsvik didn’t venture out of her comfort zone. But if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it!

Hovig, the Cypriot representative for Eurovision 2017, performed a medley of songs, including “Stone in a River“, his entry in the Cypriot Eurovision 2015 final. A Cypriot of Armenian descent, Hovig did it for the diaspora and he did it very well indeed.

Iveta Mukuchyan was also on stage, performing both “LoveWave” and her new single “Amena“. As usual, Miss Mukuchyan slayed the pack, setting the bar very high for her successor.

Depi Evratesil Results

Ultimately, only one of these women could come out on top. The results of the jury and televote were presented separately to determine the winner.

Jury Results:

  1. Artsvik — 31% of votes
  2. Marta — 19% of votes

Televote Results:

  1. Artsvik — 40% of votes
  2. Marta — 10% of votes

Combined Results:

  1. Artsvik — 71% of votes
  2. Marta — 29% of votes

Artsvik will follow the footsteps of Iveta Mukuchyan, becoming Armenia’s eleventh representative in the Eurovision Song Contest. She thanked all the voters and vowed to do the entire country proud.

What do you think of the results? What kind of song should Artsvik sing at Eurovision? Let us know in the comments below.

@Karane With a good song anyone has a chance to win. And if you like Marta, that doesn’t mean that Marta is a better singer or she has more chances to win.

@Daniel_2017 Let’s also not forget that in the second semi final She got the highest pints from international – Eurovision connected juries. So with a good song she has a good chance to get high points.

I really appreciate all the support Artsvik gets from her Armenians, it’s really nice to see. On the other hand, though, let’s not forget that it’s not the Armenians who will vote in Kyiv, but the rest of Europe (or rather half of it in the semifinal)… Indeed we should wait for the song before passing any judgement, but as far as I could see in Depi Evratesil (I watched online, fabulous!), Artsvik’s style of choice is the ballad… So probably it will be a ballad… Let’s hope it will be a really great one and Artsvik will somehow manage… Read more »

For all of you to know. All the nation was standing for Artsvik, it was clear in social medias, in public interview and even during the final show – in the hall. So it was obvious that she is going to pass. Le’t wait for the song!

I’m so happy Armenia choose her. She was in my heart from the first appearance. My guess is – if they pick a song similar to last Year’s Australia Dami Imi or like Russian’s Gagarina Armenia will end up in top 10 for sure

hey you all. did you forget the last year’s Eurovision winner Jamala? cus she didn’t have anything besides voice. Ugly face, stupid uncatchy song and 90% didn’t understand what she is singing. thanks God Artsvik is much more good looking then her, and she pretty much can rock the stage – a good song is the only thing needed.

For those who are disappointed with Artsvik – something is wrong with you, srsly. Cus she was the only best choice that Armenia could make. NONE OF, I repeat NONE OF other participants doesn’t have what Artsvik does. When she is on the stage, there is chemistry between her and the audience. And this is d most important.

Dear all Artsvik Haters. We know that your favorite artist didn’t pass that’s why you are a** burning egoes. But remember that Artsvik was juries favorite from the first round because of her great vocals and beautiful artistism. So happy she passed not Marta!

I gotta say I’m very disappointed , Artcvik is an aweful choice for Armenia What is wrong with Armenia? Feels like 90s in Armenia has never ended lol . And after Iveta it was better to choose Egine or if not her than Just a guy . But not an old tasteless ugly woman . Her voice is very annoying and she acts like a “diva “in all performances .she is not likable at all ????

Horrible choice, Marta was not amazing but she was her own kind of artist I rank Artsvik among the thousands of typical eastern singers with the same old outdated ballads, Egine was the obvious winner from the start but Armenia was stupid and didn’t know who to vote for…

P.s this means O’g3ne has now even less competition with all these boring solo female artists

First of all that is not very clever calling people idiots in general.
2. Egine is beautiful girl and has good stage charisma but her voice sounds disgusting tbh.
Hasmik is very nice girl and maybe better candidate than Artsvik is but still there are better and more professional singers here than any Depi Evratesil participant!

i think armenians are idiots cause choose Arcvic, they could choose Egine or Hasmik they were greate, but Arcvik – this is rediculus. I was crying when Hasmik and Egine were eliminated and i was crying when Arcvic win. I thote that Egine will represent Armenia and and Armenia was my favority so far, but now Armenia is not my favorite anymore, and i thin most people dissapointed in Armenia this year. Armenia broke hearts of most eurofans

Btw
According to the scenario of Armenian Public television all better participants of Depi Evratesil were eliminated and Martha was used by APTV’s team to make people think that she is trying to buy the victory so people started to make their best voting for Artsvik without understanding that they are fulled!
I’m nearly sure Artsvik will fail singing a stupid ballad in Eurovision!

@Polegend Godgarina That is not always when quantity makes a quality. Last year Iveta Mukuchyan all alone shadowed many many artists from bigger and richer countries just thank to her talent. Belive me that there are a lot of other singers who are by far better singers/artists than Artsvik is but they would never take part in talent shows. And Depi Evratesil was a fake show to legitimate the choice of Artsvik whose the only achievement during her carrier was taking part in Russian Voice! I hated both Martha and Artsvik as they both didn’t deserve to represent our country… Read more »

@Polegend Godgarin your statistics don’t work for the Armenians, which are listed among most talented nations. Well, maybe it is not politically correct to say something like that but it is the truth. We all know nations that produced (and still does) talents; generals/commanders, monarchs/dynasties, engineers, inventors, composers, artists etc. and there are those who literally has nothing, they don’t even capable to prepare their own Eurovision entry.

@Polegend Godgarina come on, you’ve told me now that this show was rigged ,well , if so, I can also say about Italian TV shows , your Mafia is everywhere, especially in the Eurovision. I don’t think that your country is conduct something in a fair way and many of us (the readers) will agree with me. As for Armenians , yes I agree with you. If we compare Italy and Armenia – there are a lot of differences of populations, but as I said before, Armenians are everywhere, even in your Italy, and a lot of them are very… Read more »

@ Jannet – you’re failing to miss the point here. I just said that Armenia has a smaller pool of talents to choose from. It’s 20 times more likely to find a flawless singer in Italy where the population is 20 times bigger – it’s statistics! So I’m not surprised that the show was rigged in Artsvik’s favor as someone mentioned below. Ex-URSS countries have rigged elections, it takes nothing for y’all to rig a talent show that isn’t even that serious.

I am very tired to read your comments guys, because you’re such a dumb people. I think Armenia did a good job , people have chosen Artsvik. Well done! She has a very good voice, I know her since the “Voice” Russia, so I must to say she is perfect for the Eurovision. Now, she needs to have a strong song and Armenian composers will do their best as always. @Polegend Godgarina and @Game of thrones, can you just shut up? Do y’all seriously believe that this Artsvik girl’s voice is OUTSTANDING? I don’t know about you, but I’ve heard her “A Million Voices” cover and it was pretty soulless and miles under Polina. I get it that Armenia is a small country and that they have a small talent pool to choose from, but with a voice like that she wouldn’t even make it to the live shows of any televised talent show here in Italy. The show was blatantly rigged in her favor, and Armenia will see the effects of this poor choice at the contest. At least they… Read more »

I agree with you that Conchita was political winner, but I must say that I totally disagree with comparisons between Il Divo and Il Volo.
Italy has a tradition in opera and italian language is the language of opera, like english is the language of rock and roll.
Simon Cowell created Il Divo inspired by The Three Tenors, so give Italy the credit for opera projects.

Y’all need to appreciate a good voice. I know it’s a song contest, but a good voice is the one thing that both the jury and televoters would vote for, so having a great singer is imperative. Marta might’ve resulted in Emmy 2.0

It’s an alright choice….. But I find her to be very plain as an artists, great vocals but almost no personality or something specific to remember her by. Just a pretty girl with a voice and that’s it.
Seen it before, the eurovision viewers are very much over these type of acts….. And have been since the early 2000s.

@ Charles – darling, keep your homophobia and transphobia to yourself. Conchita objectively has a very good voice and a great technique. You can tell she’s had years of vocal training, while Lena had never had any before the contest. Loreen was objectively mumbling a lot, that’s her style, you can like it or not. As for the “obsession” for the televote winners, I was just pointing out who the people in Europe chose to win the contest, a far better representation than 200 jury members if you ask. To sum this all up, the vocals matter relatively. We’ve had… Read more »

@Polegend Godgarina: Although you are right and thank God some millennial understands the true essence of the ESC competition as being a SONG contest and not a vocal or popularity issue, you are being just subjective about the voices you appreciated mostly during the last 10 years … sounding average or having too much mumbling …it’s your way of saying “I’d rather hear my dog barking” or maybe “bring back Verdurska counting German numbers” … subjectivity aside … I couldn’t stop but laughing that your favourite vocal was no other than the needed LGBT coming out of closet-again for those… Read more »

@ escFAN – “voice is the most important thing inESC!” since when?!
Dima Bilan – bad live vocals
Alexander Rybak – didn’t hit one single note
Lena – okay voice, no technique
Ell & Nikki – mostly out of tune
Loreen – good vocals but too much mumbling
Emmelie de Forest – average vocals
Conchita Wurst – very good vocals
Il Volo (televote winners) – very good vocals
Sergey Lazarev (televote winner) – flat vocals

Literally almost none of the winners in the past 10 years had oustanding vocals. It’s a SONG contest, not a singing competition, after all.
