Depi Evratesil introduced us to many talented performers and gave us plenty of memorable, high-octane performances. And tonight Armenia’s three-month long national selection finally comes to an end. But only two ladies — edgy upstart Marta and experienced balladeer Artsvik — have made it to the Christmas Eve showdown. And only one will be crowned the winner and head to Eurovision 2017.
Following last weekend’s live show, we asked you to decide who your favourite was. After counting 3,253 votes, we can now reveal that Artsvik is your winner — with 73% of the vote. Yes, that’s a landslide.
Marta vs. Artsvik
In many ways this contest is a matter of the unpredictable vs. the steady. While Marta has been the most versatile performer in the competition — serving everything from show-stopping and avant-garde to ethnic and traditional — Artsvik has cruised through in her comfort zone: the emotional ballad.
But Marta’s game is a dangerous one — she has been erratic and hit-or-miss. Artsvik may be predictable but she’s unyielding and assured. Their song choices in the Eurovision covers round emphasise how different these two ladies are. Artsvik chose to show off her vocals with “A Million Voices” while Marta flaunted her artistry as she covered “Rhythm Inside“.
It may be a case of comparing apples and oranges but we gave our readers the chance to make that decision. Our readers certainly have a clear favourite going into the final.
Who Should Win Depi Evratesil — Results
- Artsvik — 73.38% (2387 votes)
- Marta — 26.62% (866 votes)
The Grand Final
The results of the live shows have thus far been determined by both jury vote and televote. Last week, our very own William served on the international jury in the Semi Final. During the Grand Final, the jury will consist of Armenian musicians from the diaspora and their results will be combined with the televotes.
Marta has been the clear favourite of Armenian televoters in both live shows to date, while her performance with the juries has been up and down. Artsvik will likely need the support of the jury if she hopes to overcome Marta’s support from the public. Only one point separated the two ladies last week and we expect it to go down to the wire again.
Hovig — the Cypriot representative for Eurovision 2017 — will also perform at the Grand Final. Speaking on Aravot Luso — an Armenian morning show — Hovig, who comes from an Armenian background, revealed that this was his first visit to the country. He discussed his road to Eurovision and remained impartial when asked to choose between Marta or Artsvik. Hovig also promised to return to Armenia after his song is revealed. He’s building bridges, y’all!
The final of Depi Evratesil — streamed live — airs tonight at 18:00 CET. Make sure to watch along and check back on wiwibloggs for all the results.
