Singer, songwriter and pop superstar George Michael has died, aged 53. He passed away at his home in England.

George Michael enjoyed a successful music career spanning over 35 years, both as part of the pop duo WHAM! and later in his solo career. His loss has been felt within the Eurovision community, with many acts paying tribute to the man whose music inspired them so much.

Sergey Lazarev (Russia 2016)

Sergey wrote that his boy band Smash!! was originally managed by WHAM! manager Simon Napier-Bell. The similarity between the two group names was no coincidence — Napier-Bell intended SMASH!! to be a 21st century WHAM!. Sergey says, “Simon talked a lot about Michael. He was an incredible singer.”

Hera Björk (Iceland 2010)

A big loss for many of us, who grew up with 80s / 90s pop music. Purple Mask – I agree with you. it’s been a sad year in that respect. So many famous pop and rock singers have passed away. Among those I listened the most to: David Bowie, Prince, Maurice White (Earth Wind & Fire) and Rick Parfitt (Status Quo). And now most recently George Michael. They might not be among us anymore. But their legacy lives on. I am sure they all came make up a great band together, up in the sky 🙂 (Reminds me if… Read more »

What a terrible year for pop musicians this is. I honestly thought George would be around for a lot longer, making more music. It was his life, pretty much. Unreal. 🙁

I’ll remember him most for his live duet with Elton John (“Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”), which my father said was his favourite live performance of any pop song. It inspired me as a child to do better at music, and ultimately, to become a songwriter. (The first song I ever wrote was a duet – there you go.)

I hope he felt no pain. The pain of losing loved persons or fighting addictions are bad enough.

I wish 2016 would just go to hell already, a horrible year by any means possible. And not just celebrity deaths…

Let’s hope 2017 will be better and give us some light and positivity!

While Last Christmas was never a fav of mine, everything else this man did musically wise not only was gold but was his true self … he may have not made the best personal choices in life but when one looses your other half the way he did, I could never blame his feelings and how he used this “arrogance public mask” to hide his anger and insecurities ending up fading out from the spotlight when he clearly had nothing else to prove. He was a genius in own right and clearly a true inspiration for all gay men out… Read more »

OFF TOPIC: WatchMojo.com recently published “Top 10 WTF Moments in Music 2016”, and the #1 spot was “All the Musician Deaths”. Among examples that were mentioned in the #1 pick were David Bowie, Christina Grimmie, Pete Burns, and Leonard Cohen. In other words, those deaths were WAY before George Michael.
