Hungary: A Dal 2017 sees another disqualification as Rocktenors replace Szabyest

You’ve been waiting for dramatic events at this year’s national final season and like buses, not one but two turn up. Following yesterday’s disqualification of Jetlag, another act has been given the boot from Hungary’s A Dal 2017. With the first heat just over a week away, singer Szabyest has been replaced by group Rocktenors.

Szabyest was set to perform his entry “Szerelem kell”, but it’s been revealed he had publicly performed the entry at one of his concerts over the summer. This is in breach of the A Dal and Eurovision rules that prohibits a song from being released prior to 1 September.

When broadcaster MTVA was alerted to the rule breach, they had no option but to disqualify Szabyest.

As a result, Rocktenors will now be competing in this year’s competition. They will be performing “Osz” (Autumn), the entry that finished 32nd with the preselection jury. It’s a self-written song from all three band members, composed by Mario Mezo and Mark Taborosi, with lyrics from Zoltan Mezo.

Just like yesterday’s replacement Chase, the Rocktenors previously competed on X Factor Hungary. They reached the live shows on the second series, ultimately finishing sixth.

Earlier this week, the group Jetlag was dropped from A Dal 2017 due to a scheduling dispute with the broadcaster. They have been replaced by Chase, with his song “Dust in the Wind”.

The first heat of A Dal 2017 is due to take place on Saturday 14 January. In the show, 10 acts will perform their songs. It is expected that six acts will progress to the semi-finals, through a combination of public televote and the jury panel.
