You’ve been waiting for dramatic events at this year’s national final season and like buses, not one but two turn up. Following yesterday’s disqualification of Jetlag, another act has been given the boot from Hungary’s A Dal 2017. With the first heat just over a week away, singer Szabyest has been replaced by group Rocktenors.

Szabyest was set to perform his entry “Szerelem kell”, but it’s been revealed he had publicly performed the entry at one of his concerts over the summer. This is in breach of the A Dal and Eurovision rules that prohibits a song from being released prior to 1 September.

When broadcaster MTVA was alerted to the rule breach, they had no option but to disqualify Szabyest.

As a result, Rocktenors will now be competing in this year’s competition. They will be performing “Osz” (Autumn), the entry that finished 32nd with the preselection jury. It’s a self-written song from all three band members, composed by Mario Mezo and Mark Taborosi, with lyrics from Zoltan Mezo.

Just like yesterday’s replacement Chase, the Rocktenors previously competed on X Factor Hungary. They reached the live shows on the second series, ultimately finishing sixth.

Earlier this week, the group Jetlag was dropped from A Dal 2017 due to a scheduling dispute with the broadcaster. They have been replaced by Chase, with his song “Dust in the Wind”.

The first heat of A Dal 2017 is due to take place on Saturday 14 January. In the show, 10 acts will perform their songs. It is expected that six acts will progress to the semi-finals, through a combination of public televote and the jury panel.

What do you think of the Rocktenors replacing Szabyest? Does drama like this hurt a national final? Share your thoughts below!

@Martin A Hungarian here. A Dal rules clearly state that you can’t present your song either in front of a live audience (e.g. concerts) or on the Internet (e.g. video sharing sites, social media) before September 1. Since “Szerelem kell” has been recorded in a concert, uploaded to YouTube and it has been known by Szabyest’s fans since the summer, the song got rightfully disqualified. It was a clear breach of the rules so he or his management was trying to remove all evidence from Facebook, Instagram and YouTube all day yesterday, however, MTVA already had everything they needed to… Read more »

Not like anyone is shook, that song wasn’t going far anyway. Same with the other one that got disqualified.

As long as “It’s a Riot” stays among the 30 songs, everything is OK 🙂

But aside from that. I prefer things to go smoothly. I don’t like to much drama….Be it Diva ballads in ESC, too many things going wrong in the contest, girlfriend (not a problem though), or life in general 🙂

The third from the left looks like Donny Montell.
Hope that Hungary will host anytime soon, my favourite entry from Hungary is still Kallay Saunders Andras, but I don’t understand his new look. Blond hair and weird clothes ? Where is that cute boy from 2014 with simple look and a black sweater ?

@Martin, From my understanding, Jamala said to have performed an earlier version of “1944” in a small concert and, basing on the statement the EBU released, the concert itself was recorded and later have been uploaded online for people to view. The EBU stated that the video had only a few hundred views before it was discovered by everyone else days after Ukraine won. I haven’t watched the video itself but I’m assuming it does contains more than just Jamala’s performance there as there were likely others and the views it had gotten were not because of just her initially.… Read more »

Hi!
I’m hungarian and I don’t think that ”Origo” is a good song.
I hope we will send to ESC 2017 Soulwave,Spoon,Szabó Ádám,Pál Benjámin,Henderson Dávid or Chase, but I think Totova will win 🙁

Doesn’t the Eurovision prior release rule strictly concern just commercial release? If I’m not mistaken, both Jamala as well as whatever song Emmelie gave that other chick in the Danish preselection had previously been played at concerts, with neither constituting a qualifying breach of the official Eurovision rules. Neither got disqualified. I’m legitimately confused. Somebody explain this to me please. COME THROUGH WIWI
