Lithuania kicked off the first national selection show of 2017 with their ten-week selection process “Eurovizijos” dainu konkurso nacionaline atranka (aka Eurovizijos atranka 2017). Tonight’s opening show saw 12 participants sing it out on the first of four heats. Tonight’s lineup included 2009 Eurovision representative Sasha Song and Latvia’s Samanta Tina competing as a duet with Tadas Rimgaila.

After all 12 participants performed and the results were announced, Edgaras Lubys advanced to the semi-final as tonight’s winner, and will be joined by Sasha Song, Paula, Golden Monkeys, Otreya and Benas Malakauskas.

Eurovizijos atranka – heat one running order

Justin 3 – “Streets of Vilnius”

Ruta Andruskeviciute – “The Way to Your Heaven”

Paula – “Never Let You Go”

Golden Monkeys – “Septyni Dievai” (Seven gods)

Auguste Vedrickaite – “It’s not over (Not to Me)”

Sasha Song – “Never Felt Like This Before”

Dagna Kondrataviciute – “Feel It”

Audrius Petrauskas – “Shine Like Gold”

Benas Malakauskas – “Rolling”

Tadas Rimgaila & Samanta Tina – “Tavo oda” (Your Skin)

Otreya – “Last Two Weeks”

Edgaras Lubys  – “Could it be?”

The 2017 voting process remains largely unchanged from last year’s competition. The overall votes consists of 50% televoting, combined with the other 50% from juries. For the heats, the juries will be local, but once the semi-finals start an international panel will also have their say.

I loved Shine Like Gold! Surprised to not see it in the comments, I thought it stood out as the most well-put-together song on the first heat!

Nothing special at Lithuania’ first heat. I don’t know how Edgaras Lubys was the winner of the night. I don’t like neither his vocals or the song.Sasha Song is a good song, nothing special, same for Otreya. Paula’s song was better for me, contemporary soung, good vocals. I liked also Golden Monkeys, alternative song, not similar to others, it stands out and the native language gives something mysterious to it. At this show, I would keep Paula and Golden Monkeys as my favourites, without being particularly excited about them. And Lithuania why this long process? So many weeks, so many… Read more »

The first thing that comes to my mind when I listen to Paula’s song is – Bulgaria’s “If love was a crime”, not as in it’s similar in sounding, just the motive kind of reminds me of it, but that’s me. Also I tried listening to songs without actually looking at who’s singing 😀 and she is really the one that doesn’t sound as if she’s dying whilst singing, although some action maybe would have spiced up the song. Nevertheless you can see how jury voting makes it all worse on national selection when people vote for 1 person and… Read more »

The winner is tragic. That “lalalalalalalala” sounds so childish and annoying. I really hope he won’t win the whole selection, otherwise the last place in the Semi-Final is awaiting Lithuania.

Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of any of the songs that were in the first heat. I don’t understand why Edgaras’ song got first in this heat. The “la-la-la”s that he make and the robotic voice that you can hear at the beginning of the song are really annoying and ruins what may be just an ok song. Paula’s and Sasha’s songs both use that electro Caribbean sound that you can hear in Justin Bieber’s songs, like Tomas mentioned, and it doesn’t appeal to me. All of the others from this heat aren’t good, so hopefully the second heat will… Read more »

I just listened to the six chosen semi-finalists and am pleasantly surprised, none of them is bad. I like Edgaras’ “Could It Be” the least though, sounds like a big mess.
My favorite would be Paula, although her chorus is a bit underwhelming.

So far, they got nothin’. By the way, has anyone told Ms. Paula that sampled vocals on your track aren’t allowed at Eurovision?

All the six songs that are going throught are listenable, but none of them really stand out. Sasha’s song gives good vibes. Edgaras Lubys’ one is okey, but I was specting something more after his participation in Eurovijizos 2015. Paula’s song is current and radiofriendly, but that’s all, it sounds like other songs already heard.
For me, Golden Monkeys or Otreya are almost more interesting than those three, though they have songs that are usually eliminated in the next round.

His La-la-la projectiles completely destroy my interest even after Imogen Heap’y lifting verses.

Glad Golden Monkeys made it. Auguste should have qualified instead of Benas though.

A good first heat from Lithaunia. A wide diversity of music styles, which is important. And in my opnion – mostly quality songs. The only song I didn’t like was “It’s Not Over”. And it didn’t qualify anyway 🙂

2 of 3 rck songs went further. Which is good. But I think “Streets of Vilnius” also should have made it. Very catchy rock. But was great to see “Last Two Weeks” go further.

I think Lithuania can do well with some of these songs in ESC….they have a kind of modern, commerical vibe, reflecting pop trends today.

In fact, Lithuanian selection lasts 10 weeks (7 January – 11 March), not 8 as you have written in the article

I think Rolling has the most potential to become a really good song and he can sing! About the winner not bad, good vocals. Others are not that good.

OMG: I cant believe the juries put Edgaras first – what a horrible song… of all 20 songs available from the 51 of the lot I have it already on 15th… its horrible!!! By far the best was Paula and Benas (at least the juries had Benas 3rd). Paula has a very contemporary song and she was vocally one of the strongest of the night (AND she didnt have an annoying voice), but I feel the song might wear off quickly. Benas did a supercharming performance and his song was a catchy surprise of the night – I think he… Read more »

None of them sounds like a winner. Edgaras’ song sounds like a messy version of Constellation Prize by Robin Bengtson.

@Marco welp. she’s better than Margaret and Samra so I hope she will improve before Eurovision starts XD The song is still way better than any other song in the selection, or atleast give the song to someone with an even better voice!

It seems like a lot of people are copying this new electro Carribean sound that Bieber made very popular on his last album – both Sasha Song and Paula’s song both sound like bieber album rejects. Fruela has a similar sounding song.
Nothing really stood out for me from this semi but still 3 more left!

His song is probably a grower, but I don’t like it yet.
