We are getting close to Belarus’ national selection for Eurovision 2017, which takes place on January 20. In recent weeks the Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of musical unprofessionals — has been listening to and reviewing all of the songs. Next we turn to Anastasia Sheverenko with “We’ll Be Together”. But are we with her? Read on and find out!

Anastasia Sheverenko – “We’ll Be Together”

“WE’LL BE TOGETHER” REVIEWS

Robyn: “We’ll Be Together” has a lot of potential. With the right production, it could be sexed up into a cool R&B ballad. But would that work with Anastasia’s voice? She has a jazzy, operatic sound and however the song is produced, it’s an odd match for a singer of her style. I’d like to see her back next year with a song that works with her strengths.

Score: 4/10

William: “Back on Monday, cock can feel you breathe” — I think she needs to work on her enunciation. Putting that to one side, the song is a matter of dull, duller and dullest. It goes absolutely nowhere and, while she has has a sexy, soulful voice, that’s not enough to revive this dud of a tune.

Score: 2.5/10

Mikhail: As soon as I heard this song, I thought the singer had been rescued from drowning and was frantically gasping for air. That’s an uninspiring singing technique. Putting the vocals aside, the melody is not bringing any light to this world either — the listeners might be the ones to drown! It is monotonous and plain, and you know exactly where it will go after a few seconds of listening — nowhere.

Score: 3.5/10

Chris: Anastasia sells this one to the best of her ability, but the issue here is what she’s selling. It’s a dull, 90s ballad that has gone wrong down the line. It obviously wouldn’t qualify at Eurovision, even if there were some significant work going into it. Hopefully Anastasia can come back in the future with something better.

Score: 4/10

Sami: Anastasia does have a seductive voice, but it sounds like singing is very hard for her. I also get the same feeling when watching her performance. Maybe she can relate to the lyrics or maybe she is in pain, but it’s not really pleasant to watch. The song goes under the same category as most of the songs in this selection — boring and unoriginal.

Score: 3/10

Kristin: After those insanely long 2:58 minutes, which seemed like they would never ever end, day drinking sounds legit somehow. Anastasia rocks, but the song does not. At all. You can’t polish a turd and call it a gem. But Anastasia deserves our utmost respect, because her voice is gorgeous. Give her a soulful jazz number, or even a techno version of “Old McDonald had a farm”. Anything but this catastrophe.

Score: 3/10

Antranig: I’m not sure about being together but I am sure about being bored. Vocally, Anastasia is absolutely flawless. I have nothing negative to say about Anastasia but I have nothing positive to say about her song. She is a beautiful vocalist but someone needs to find her a new tune.

Score: 3.5/10

Luis: Amazing singer, amazingly boring song. We’ve heard this zillions of times, and zillions of times we’ve trashed this kind of entry. “We’ll Be Together” is not dated, like the many other ballads in this selection. There are some quite contemporary beats, but contemporary can be lame too. Anastasia’s soulful voice and her vocal frills are fantastic, but they come packed in an ugly envelope.

Score: 3/10

In the Belarus Wiwi Jury, we have 17 jurors but only room for 8 reviews. The rest of our scores can be found below:

Bernardo: 3/10

Dayana: 3.5/10

Edd: 2/10

Before calculating the average score, the highest and lowest scores are dropped. This is to remove outliers and reduce potential bias. We have removed a low of 2 and a high of 4.

Nice song but boring. Not a fan.

Honestly, I don’t know how anyone would like this. This is dated and boring, and the most important fact, is there’s no chorus! This has to be at the bottom of the list for me, and I definitely hope Belarus isn’t choosing this one.

Derp. You’re right. Guess it sounded less yodelly because I had gotten used to it.

Definitely better than Yoko Ono.

This song has some nice elements and beats; I totally see where they wanted to go with this – it’s just poorly produced.

@ESC4Ever Well, at least Anastasia’s better than Yoko Ono! 🙂

@mawnck

The studio version is not out yet, both videos sound identical. Someone basically took the audio of the live performance and used it for his video.

Not even one juror gave this a score higher than 4? Why? God, I don’t get why everyone hates this entry. She is my 3rd. The song is very good, it has a catchy and memorable melody and her voice is very unique.

7.5/10

P.S.: I’m expecting no more than 1.5 for Lermont x Julic’s tragic entry. 😀

We are witnessing something rare and special here, folks. The live performance … at the Belarus auditions, no less … is better than the studio version.

She needs to work on the vibrato, though. That’s too much for a pop song. This ain’t Grande Amore.

And I’m gonna go against the grain and say that if they stuck a nice big bombastic Eurovisionny arrangement behind this, it could work really well. As is, though, it’s pretty dull.

@esconly actually, it’s the other way around. Her voice is horrible.

Looks like reviews are getting worse by every song.

Oh Belarus…

I actually really like this song, but I can understand why people don’t like it. However this can’t go to Eurovision it would be destroyed by the competition. Looking foward for Anastasiya’s future work
