The ongoing saga of Greece‘s selection process for Eurovision 2017 has taken one further twist. Greek media is reporting that broadcaster ERT has internally selected the singer Demy as its act for Kyiv. Her song will be chosen by the public in a national final.

Last week media reported that ERT had asked both Demy and the duo Stereo Soul to submit songs for selection ahead of a national final in February.

But it looks like it was Demy who won over ERT. OGAE Greece has reported that Demy has been working with Greece’s dream team of songwriter Dimitris Kontopoulos and choreographer Fokas Evangelinos. The pair have been behind many successful Eurovision entries, and most recently were part of the team behind Sergey Lazarev’s “You Are the Only One” performance.

Demy has three English language songs which she will reportedly perform at a national final in February. The winning song will be selected by 100% televote.

A repeat of 2009?

Greece previously used an internally selected artist with a publicly chosen song in 2009. Greek star Sakis Rouvas was selected by the broadcaster. He performed three songs at the national final, but it was “This Is Our Night” that won with 81% of the vote. “This Is Our Night” was also co-written by Kontopoulos and choreographed by Evangelinos.

It went to place seventh at Eurovision, one of Greece’s best results in the past decade. After Argo gave Greek its first ever non-qualification, ERT will be eager to get a place back in the finals.

What do you think? Can Demy get Greece back into the grand final? Can the Greek dream team work their magic again? Let us know in the comments section below!

They could actually get a good placing after last year’s disappointment (altho I had Argo among my qualifiers, don’t judge me :p), I think top 5, maybe top 3 is in their reach with Demy, but it depends on how keen ERT is to do well.

It is still early to say this, but this sounds promising (if it’s true).

Wow this indeed sounds very good,

I hope they manage to mix their traditional music elements with something modern because I don’t see them doing anything else that could hit top 10 or smth like that.

I really hope we will finally do well, but not win, because our broadcaster clearly doesn’t have the money to host the following year. Or win and then deny hosting and give it to another country.

this is exciting and all but god forbid if they win– we might have eurovision 2018 at a shopping mall or something.

Yeah, the alliance looks promising and I am quite excited about Greece 2017! Greece is in top 5 for bookies now. I know it is early day and this might change so many times with bookies, but I guess it demonstrates that the market sees potential and believes that right ingredients are being put into this dish. We will taste it soon

So she will have the same choreographer like Ani Lorak – Shady Lady, and Sergey.
Will be spectacular, but can be risky if the style will be too similar, and people will start saying that is a copy.
I like that Greece does not give up ESC and still works with the best in the national music industry.

Top 10 for sure and why not top 5
She is an amazing singer, she has a great composer and the best stage director.
This entry ticks all boxes.
