Objetivo Eurovision final 2017

Objetivo Eurovisión — Spain’s national selection for Eurovision 2017 — is entering the final stretch. Following its prolonged Eurocasting competition, which resulted in LeKlein winning the wildcard to the final, it’s time to choose the act who will sing for Spain in Kyiv. The stakes are high and the songs are out — let’s do this!

As Eurofans already know, LeKlein is bringing an electro ballad of perseverance with “Ouch!!” The contemporary song uses horns to great effect and LeKlein has the vocals to deliver a solid live performance. There is a reason she won Eurocasting in a landslide.

Now she must sing-it-out against five songs and artists — internally selected by RTVE — that cut across genre, trends and language. We had hoped to embed the official audio direct from RTVE, but at the time of publishing their privacy settings would not allow us to do so. As such we have found videos of varying quality on YouTube which we’ve pasted below. We’ll update this as soon as RTVE changes its privacy settings, or as soon as the acts release official videos.

The songs are listed below in alphabetical order by the contestant’s name.

‘Ouch!!’ — LeKlein

She won Spain’s Eurocasting with nearly two-thirds of all votes and is riding a wave of momentum ahead of the final. Will all of those who voted for her previously stick with her since they are already familiar with her song? Or will they start to see “Ouch!!” as stale and switch allegiance with new songs in the mix?

‘Momento crítico’ — Maika

Gravelly-voiced rock singer Maika may be familiar from her song “The Reason” last year in Switzerland’s selection. She previously competed on The Voice of Spain and another talent show called Levántate All Stars, though her solo career hasn’t really taken flight in Spain.

In ‘Momento critico’ Maika is angry but strong. She says today isn’t any other day because she’s lost her patience. She doesn’t want to believe that honesty has been lost and she is still standing. She won’t sell her body for other’s desires. “I will shout,” she says, “I can’t give up. I have to be truthful to my beliefs.”

‘Do it for your lover’ — Manel Navarro

Manel is a 20-year-old singer from Barcelona. In 2016, he released his first single “Candle”. The song got some attention, especially on the Catalan radio stations. Three years ago, he won the contest Teen Star in Catalonia and released his single “Brand New Day”.

His song “Do It For Your Lover” is very summery and sweet, and features him strumming on his guitar while encouraging everyone to go the extra mile for their loved one. “Don’t be afraid ’cause everything is going to be OK,” he says. “I want to see you acting like you just don’t care.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-4MsXeBlQw

‘Spin my head / Pierdo el control’ — Mario Jefferson

Mario is one of the freshest and most promising names in Spanish Latino pop. Coming from Fuengirola (Málaga), he took part in the final season of Operación Triunfo, ultimately finishing third. That led him to collaborate with Zahara and Efecto Mariposa on his first album “The Night I Forgot Your Name.”

His Eurovision song is about that special someone who sends your head spinning. It’s a dance number about feeling good and looking fine as the bass drops and the drums beat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_w6LzI6vJI

‘Contigo’ — Mirela

Hailing from Aranjuez, Mirela has always had Eurovision on her mind. When she was 14, she completed in Spain’s selection for Junior Eurovision with “Conocí el amor”. She’s since tried three times to represent Spain at Eurovision: in 2007 with “La Reina de la Noche”, in 2008 with “Stronger” and in 2009 with “Nada es comparable a tí”.

And now she’s ready to make Eurofans dance with her number “Contigo” (With You). Singing to the man of her dreams, she speaks of love and wanting to explore the world by his side. There are no fears, she says, just the dream of building a life together.

https://youtu.be/bO82_QuryPk

‘Lo que nunca fue’ — Paula Rojo

Paula took part in the first season of The Voice Spain in 2012, ultimately reaching the live shows. She (and her ukulele) gained huge popularity and a star was born! Paula smashed the charts with her first single “Sólo Tú” (Only You). She reached #1 on iTunes Spain and spent 20 weeks on the Most Downloaded Songs chart. Can she leverage that momentum again in 2017?

With “Lo que nunca Fue” (What never was), Paula looks back nostalgically on love that could have been…but didn’t quite happen. Among other things, she sings of checking photos again when it’s raining and going back to the coffee shop where they met. Feel the sadness, y’all. “It should never have been good bye,” she says. “It should have been forgiveness.”

Spanish eurofans are their worst enemies. How can they possibly come in here and twitter and everywhere and dis their contestants the way they do? It’s completely beyond any understanding. It’s Mirela and Contigo for me. It’d be a great Spanish entry if it gets through the hell of Spanish fans.

Are you guys serious? I don’t understand what all this hype around Mirela is. It’s a really outdated and boring song.
The truth is Spain doesn’t have enough neighbours or expats in Europe to ever be near the top 5 but the only one that has a good chance is Leklein with Ouch…

After listening to each over the course of a few days…I have to say the one i was craving to listen to again was…CONTIGO!

I think with a 2017 edit, and more bass/beat added on the chorus drop this could be MASSIVE..

Give us more waka waka – shakira vibes on it…

SPAIN PLEASE SEND THIS ENTRY…and polish it a little

Thank you so much!

It’s Mirela and Contigo for me too. I actually think it’s the best Spanish entry in many years. Of course it won’t win, it’s Spain after all.

‘Momento crítico’:a really good, strong song, but it gets repetitive for me. ‘Do it for your lover’: not excited, I like this happy, sweet spanish vibe, but it’s forgettable. ‘Spin my head / Pierdo el control’: not like it, boring ‘Contigo’: this is a good, summer song, Mirela has a great voice, summer hit if we see it at ESC, but I don’t think it is appropriate for eurovision. I don’t say it’s a bad song, but these kind of songs are fan favourites, people like them, but at the final they don’t do so well. Remember Barey last year,… Read more »

Let’s be serious guys: the only great song in terms of quality out of these new five songs is Maika: 1. She has a unique voice. 2. The song is in Spanish and the lyrics are very well produced. Even those not understanding Spanish are able to notice the words flow in a harmonic way, worked in detail and thoroughly thought. 3. It’s out of any Spanish cliché, so it might surprise. Spain has never sent a rocky song: this is not another dance song in English, a ballad in Spanish or a cheese summer song. 4. Maika is a… Read more »

literally none of them
like slight edge to paula rojo but lithuania’s eurovizijos *heats* have better songs than this
i thought there were 30 artists too like what are these six
you have maika who couldn’t even pass the swiss live check last year, mario who sounds like a 12 yo kid, manel who’s like frans lite, and mirela who’s stuck in eurovision 1999 like I hate to say it but only leklein and paula rojo could dodge last place

Seriously. Whilst No Enemy wasn’t a winning song, it would definitely have been on the left-hand side of the scoreboard. None of these entries will probably break the Top 22.

@ Purple Mask
If Adele or Rolling Stones would want to represent UK, in ESC competition, I don’t even think that they would be welcomed by ESC comunity/bubble/etc., because I think that ESC is for artists like Joe&Jake and is great this way, new faces, new personal stories, no stars, no bodyguards.

How many futurologists there are in this forum. The same ones that predicted a good rank for Barei last year and a bad rank for whatever song we submitt this year, are the same ones that will have to eat their words as Manel gets the best result for Spain in decades.

WTF? ‘Contigo’ sounds like Rebeca’s 1994 songs!! This song is tiresome, outdated and rambling, and on top of everything else, Mirela’s voice is two notes above the pleasant. No more old-fashioned-esc-divas please!

@Dani: Maybe it’s because we love Spain, its language and its culture so much that we want it to do well at Eurovision! 🙂 @an esc fan: It’s really difficult to explain to a non-UK resident, but basically the BBC used to love being involved in hosting and “helping out” at Eurovision, because it meant they got to show off the latest in their cameras, recording equipment and technology. However, as far as the MUSIC was concerned, the UK always had its own pop industry that hardly ever wanted to get involved, because Eurovision felt inferior. On occasion when the… Read more »

I think, any of those songs is bound to end up in the bottom five but, anyway, if I had to choose…
1- Paula Rojo (harmless and catchy country vibes, nice and sweet voice)
2- Maika (old-fashioned and simple pop rock accompanied by a peculiar and nice voice)
3- Manel (generic pop, no surprises)
4- LeKlein (generic electronic number, the ouch part is just… ouch)

@Polegend Godgarina

Fairytale – Vibraphone, Violins, Percussion… Have you seen the music sheet? Solo part is a masterpiece.

Rise Like… – This song won because of his beard. The song is mediocre.

1994 – Soft instrumental? The percussion of this song is different and very good. I’m not a big fan of this song… But… And the staging was very good.

The selection of songs is good and alternative. I do not understand why the English always criticize the Spaniards so much. At least these songs are nice. We’ll see what the BBC does in the next few days …

Was a time when UK did well in ESC, was then the same lack of interest? Is a serious question, I hope it does not sound sarcastic.
About Spain, jury wildcard against 5 public-voted candidates, might start WW 3.

Purple Mask

Yes, we know the UK is terrible. This is largely because the British record-buying public treats Eurovision as a joke, and so therefore does the public broadcaster and (some of) the artists who enter. This does not explain or excuse Spain’s disaster this year. William’s advice might very well be valid – switch the system around and have one jury wildcard against five public-voted candidates. It might do wonders for 2018, so don’t dismiss the idea.

Mirela’s Contigo would be my third pick. Its a catchy dance song but it will need a good staging and choreography in order to do well in ESC. Spain doesn’t have a good track record with dance songs(like last year) but fingers crossed this year will be different.

If we narrow it down to who has the best chance at standing out at ESC GF then its between: Manel’s “Do It For Your Lover” & LeKlein’s “Ouch!!”. My personal favorite is definitely Manel’s because of its freshness and the guitar hook but I feel that LeKlein’s song can be translated well on the ESC stage based on the MV. I hope Spain chooses one of these two.

In Eurovision there are no recipes and not many ways to predict what will work next year, but I believe in some trends :
1. In 2017 people + jury will not want to support the same sad song like ”1944”, a change of genre is predictable.
2. The year 2016 was full of english, and fans are so bored, and even worried of english invasion, that in 2017 will have an advantage the non-english songs.
… so, 2017 might be the year of a happy spanish song like Contigo – Mirela.

‘Ouch’ – It tries to be heartfelt, but ultimately quite unintentionally cheesy. ‘Contigo’ – Very catchy and with a good performance could do well, but it still is quite a typical Europop song with little meaning. ‘Do it for your lover’ – Somewhat catchy, but very generic and repetitive. ‘Momento critico’ – I like the lyrics and it would be interesting to hear a rock song from Spain. However, it lacks an instant ‘hook’ on first listening. ‘Lo que nunca fue’ – Also a well written song, but needs extra ‘oomph to stand out’. ‘Spin my head’ – Cheap song… Read more »

My dear Spanish friends. Of course you are totally entitled to choose whatever song you fancy to be a winner of the internal competition in Spain. However maybe some consideration should be given to how it will land on a Europe which, let’s face it is not Latin America, does not speak Spanish and is listening to a different type of music. Mirella might sound great but she sounds exactly the same as Spain 2015. It might be unfair but this is not type of music which is likely to bring success outside of Spanish speaking countries. Sorry but this… Read more »

For goodness sake Spain! This selection is dire, with bottom five written all over it! Why didn’t you just hand the right to represent you to Brequette, who actually had a chance at a left-hand finish? It is so annoying. The only memorable one amongst these six is LeKlein’s ‘Ouch!’ which I am sad to say isn’t saying much!
Sorry Spain, I hope they bring it for 2018.
