Ever since Finland’s national broadcaster YLE revealed the ten acts competing at Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2017 — their national selection for Eurovision 2017 — our readers have been voting for their favourites. Now it’s time to go through the results and reveal your early favourites to represent Finland in Kyiv.

And the favourite is very clear. After receiving a total of 3,578 votes, we can now reveal that Emma has come out on top with her song “Circle of Light“. Y’all seem to love Emma’s wooden dance music, as she got over 30% of all the votes. Our reader Polegend Godgarina says Emma’s song “has so much potential: strong beat, catchy, and easy to attach to a memorable performance“.

Norma John comes second with their tragic ballad “Blackbird“.

The duo earned 14% of all the votes, meaning 494 votes in total.

In the comments section you guys describe their number as “a really calm and lovely song, touching and melancholic” and say it has “an absolutely gorgeously haunting melody“.

In third place is the only song in Finnish in this year’s contest.

Lauri Yrjölä earned 12% of all the votes with his song “Helppo elämä“.

Reader Steven says “the language stands out and the music grabs your attention“.

Alva with “Arrows” and Anni Saikku with “Reach Out For The Sun” round out the top five. My First Band, who currently have the most plays on Spotify, finished eighth in the poll with 5% of the votes.

But have your favourites changed since the videos were revealed at the end of December? We will launch a new poll this week to find out your current favourites in the Finnish selection. Over the course of this week The Wiwi Jury will also have their say on the songs, starting today, January 16.

Circle of Lights on top, I’m not surprised…

@Meeks, no, Norma John is indeed a duo. The members are the singer Leena Tirronen and keyboardist Lasse Piirainen.

Isn’t Norma John a soloist?
Why is this song talked about as a duo?
Regardless, I think Blackbird is the best choice. It’s a beautiful, haunting song that will capture everyone in Ukraine in May and could do a Top 5-10 position if the performance is just as mesmorising as the video..think norway circa 2015 – monster like me vibe

Emma and Norma John are the best choices for Finland. I can see Norma John qualifying, just like Netherlands 2013 and Norway and Cyprus 2015, and for Emma, since lots of people like her song, I bet she can bring back Finland into the final. In addition, she can definitely sing without autotune (if you watched her interview with William on the Wiwibloggs’ YouTube channel) so this is a positive for her that she will go to the final.

I still think emmas Circle of Light is a mixture of Emelies “Only Teardrops” and Greta Salomes “Hear them Calling”. Dont know what to think about it.

“Circle of light” is a good song. I can imagine this performing at ESC. It has an interesting sound, the singer has a great voice and I enjoy this “folk” vibes.
“Blackbird” is a song I liked from the biginning. It’s dark, mysterious, melancholic.
Both will do well at ESC.
Honestly, with Emma, I think Finland is back in the final.
Generally I’m not a fan of the songs Finland has sent over the years. Hope for the best.

Circle of Light is a weak version of a typical formulaic earthy Eurovision entry which we’ve seen too many times before, done better. Inferior versions of previous successes never do as well and I don’t think this would be any different for Finland. They’d be better of just being daring and make the most of the staging of something like Gunther instead. They’d have a much better chance of doing well with something memorable than something boring.

@Nitzan, I also singled out Verona and Circle of light for me. What is the Animal Spirit? Is this from Finland as well?

Circle of Light is so far my 3rd favorite song of the season, right after Spirit Animal and Verona. Wonderful song and great video too!

I love Emma’s song and can see it in top 5-7 with the right staging. If things work out exceptionally well, maybe even top 3-4. A lot will depend on the competition, but it has huge potential in my humble opinion

Yes, listen to Wiwibloggs reader Polegend Godgarina and vote for Emma Sandström’s “Circle of Lights”. The best choice for Finland. The non-boring, non-sleep-inducing song sung by a sweet and talented girl with a lot of charisma and artistic ideas. The only top 10 “Blackbored” will ever see is in the UMK2017.

What is the actual date of the National Final? It is very poor article writing when you don’t include obvious information like this. Poor and amateur.

I think this is the only Finland song that realistically could do well in Eurovision. Other songs in their national selection are ok but I think they have to pick this.

Finland made mistake 2 years in row , I hope that Finland don t make mistake this year in national final For me best choice is Norma. Only with her , Finland have chance to be in TOP 10 in final ( simillar result like Netherlands 2013, Norway 2015 and 2014). I think with Ema , Finland wili be in final, but in final place from 14 to 20 place. She look like winner Emelie from Denmark 2013, but song is not good as song from Denmark and some irish songs in past with similar sound. With other song they… Read more »
