Hungarian broadcaster MTVA have confirmed this afternoon that the second heat of A Dal 2017, due to air tonight, will be postponed. Producers took the decision out of respect for 16 victims of a bus crash that occurred overnight in Italy. Most of the victims were young pupils from Hungary.
Hungary’s government have declared Monday a national day of mourning for the tragedy. The crash, which took place near the city of Verona, involved a bus carrying students aged 14-18. The bus collided with a column before bursting into flames. In addition to the 16 killed, a further 39 were injured. The cause of the accident is still unknown.
As a result, MTVA accordingly made the decision to postpone tonight’s heat of A Dal. It’s a decision that must be respected as the country seeks to recover from such a loss. The heat will be rescheduled to take place at a later date, which will be announced in due course.
TOTOVA — the favourite for tonight’s heat — posted a tribute to those killed on Facebook earlier today.
Our condolences go out to everyone touched by the accident. As always, we’ll keep you informed when A Dal is set to return.
But is not about somebody knowing anybody, is just a country that cares about people.
@Melissa Kutcher: Hungary does not have 320 million people. In a country of 10 million, it is far more likely that somebody (including a contender scheduled to sing) knows someone who died in that crash.
I’m sorry for Hungary, the families will never be the same.
The national day of mourning will be monday, but the broadcasters take their own decisions, and is normal to postpone the show. TV ratings and money are not everything, and some countries don’t hear about such news everyday.
If such a bus accident tragedy happened here in America , there’d be flags raised at half mast in the states affected, not the whole country, but Hungary is about the size of a US state so it sounds reasonable to the population and country size.
I disagree with the postponement. In America, if a bus crashed…any show would STILL go on, and i wish A Dal did the same.
Oh my f-ing God, how did I not see this earlier? My condolences go to the families and friends of those who have died. It makes me sad that we recently had the announcement of the Red Army Choir crashing on Christmas, and now this. R.I.P. ;(
My goodness, that’s really close to where I live! RIP 🙁
@balint345: Indeed. That would be a good reason to postpone. It’s all just too shocking.
@Purple Mask
The contestants are among flames on the “postcards”, that’s probably one of the reasons why they postponed the show.
@Maxime Well, after this thing I don’t even know anymore anything, but one of the participants’ family member wrote on Facebook that Heat 2 will be postponed to February 4th. But this is unofficial ofc.
Either: 1. The people who work on the show have been directly affected by this tragedy (through family etc), or 2. It has been declared a national day of mourning (which means no live entertainment shows), or 3. Something about Heat 2 is inappropriate to broadcast at this time, like one of the songs or another part of the entertainment. I just saw the photograph of the accident – it is really horrible. This is a terrible way to die. One of the worst things to do now, for example, would be to play the “Verona” song from Eesti Laul;… Read more »
@Levi21 No, finally it is cancelled. They are currently broadcasting an orchestra concert.
Will it be resheduled last Saturday or in the next week?
@Maxime as far as I know it’s because Duna wants to repeat the First Heat of A Dal. Which is pretty strange, because they postponed Heat 2 because of the tragedy, so I don’t get why repeating the first heat would be better or less disrespectful.
So sad… R.I.P. 🙁
Are you sure? On Duna’s website tonight’s Adal show is still sheduled…
Sad. Just sad. Rest in Peace…
oh no… this is sad 🙁 all love to familiy and friends… r.i.p. <3
