After three hours of live auditions, the expert jury of Moldova‘s broadcaster TRM announced the 14 acts that qualified for the O melodie pentru Europa semi-final on 24 February. There were no major surprises: from the record low number of 40 entries this year, fan favourites Sunstroke Project, Boris Covali and Diana Brescan advanced, while Sasha Bognibov did not make the cut.

Moldova’s 14 semi-finalists

The 14 entries that will face off during the semi-final scheduled for 24 February are:

1. Sunstroke Project – “Hey Mamma”

5. Valeria Pasa – “Freedom”

6. Marks & Stefanet – “Join Us In The Rain”

7. Emilia Russu -“If Only You”

8. Cobilean Constantin – “Mama”

9. Ethno Republic & Surorile Osoianu – “Discover Moldova”

10. Irina Kit – “Baby, Don’t Cry”

11. Sandy C – “A Beautiful World”

12. Aurel Chirtoaca – “Dor de mama” (Missing mother)

13. THE ONE – “Dance”

14. Big Flash Sound – “Logic”

Earlier in the week, Maxim Zavidia, who finished fifth in the national final with “La La Love” last year, withdrew. He told wiwibloggs that there was “a misunderstanding with the songwriters”. Also, another artist, Shakya, was a no-show at the live auditions, which lowered the number of songs to 38.

Another notable absence was Epic Sax Guy. Sunstroke Project was represented only by singer Sergey Ialovitsky. However, this did not diminish the band’s chances of qualification.

Making an appearance at the live auditions was Aliona Moon, the last singer to bring Moldova to the grand final in 2013. But she wasn’t singing — this time Aliona was one of the five jury members.

The lucky 14 will progress to the show’s sole semi-final on February 24. From there, eights acts will qualify for the grand final of O melodie pentru Europa the following day, February 25.

39 songs… 4 hours of auditions and torture for this? for these 14 songs? Did the jury even care to listen? This must be a joke, right? MAX FALL and VALENTINA NEJEL & SERGIU PUNGA should have been in that shortlist. Come on MOLDOVA… SHAME ON YOU!!!!!! ????

Where is Max Fall??? I can’t believe ‘If I Could is Out’… Did he has a bad live? Last year he had a good live so…

Sunstroke Project would be a safe quality choice, I like Vozniuc feat. Vio Grecu ‘Don’t lie’ too. The other songs are either boring or cheap and crappy. There are some good voices but that’s all.

Why Sergey-The Epic Sax Guy was not in audition? Justice for Sergey! 🙂
In 2014 he was officially named the best dancer in ESC history, and he said that his intention was to be funny and that he had no idea he was sexy.

”Lol what is with that set – it looks like someone was either halfway through moving apartment or halfway through creating a set for an office.”

LOL, but I guess that the auditions were not even supposed to be broadcasted.
I hope SunStroke Project will win.

Sunstroke Project have had their chance, I’d let a new artist shine now. The Dor de mama song really intrigues me, I can’t wait to hear it!

Of those 6 – Sunstroke’s guy probably has the best vocals. The three girl’s songs are 100000000% forgettable – i want those 9 minutes of my life back. Don’t lie is probably the best song but his vocals are really off. Its surprising because if you are going to feature someone in a song – youd think that youd just choose the best singer available

Sunstroke Project copy-pasted itself again. Annoying again! Among the vids showing, I appreciate “Don’t lie” best

Is there still ‘pay-for-yourself’ policy in Moldova or does broadcaster has changed it? If not, that could explain the low number of participants.
