Following the conclusion of the four heats, Lithuania’s national selection Eurovizijos atranka 2017 really started heating up. And tonight’s show saw the qualifiers bringing the fire — most notably heat one winner Edgaras Lubys and Gytis Ivanauskas (perhaps better known as his alter ego Lolita Zero). The latter went on to win tonight’s show having come out on top of the televoting results.

Another seven acts will join Gytis in the next stage of of the competition: Ieva Zasimauskaite, Fusedmarc, Paula, Gražvydas, Edgars Lubys, Gabrielius Vagelis and E.G.O.

Sadly, the journey ended for Benas Malakauskas, Otreya, Milda Martinkenaite & Saulene Chlevickaite and Valdas Lacko.

Ahead of tonight’s show the Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — had plenty of positive things to say about Gytis and his song “Get Frighten” (yes, that is dubious English). Wiwiblogger Robyn said:

Yes, ok, this song is a tie-in with an action film which somehow involves this parody of a Eurovision performance, watermelons and all. But when I’ve been sitting through all these other Eurovizijos atranka qualifiers that range from “mind-numbingly dull” to “s’ok I suppose”, this makes me pay attention. “Get Frighten” entertains me. It puts a smile on my face and I delight in the drama and spectacle. I love you, Lithuania.

Tonight’s jury winner Ieva Zasimauskaite left the Wiwi Jury a bit more cold. Luis wrote:

One thing is clear: Ieva’s saviour is either deaf or loves her a bit too much. Why didn’t her loved one warn her that singing this song was not a good idea? Yes, she has a beautiful voice, but her song is utterly boring, plain and uninteresting. When will people get that no one watches the Eurovision as a cure for insomnia?

But wiwiblogger Robyn definitely called it: “Ieva might as well be singing ‘You Saved Me” to the jury, because her song would not have got through on the televote alone.” Tonight, however, it would have: She placed fifth with the public.

Eurovizijos atranka 2017 – Show five running order

E.G.O – “My Story”

1. Lolita should just sing, anyway that she can.
2. She needs more fruits and vegetables. Really, no joke, is so funny and not done before. Also I want to see if staff in Kiev will be able to clean everything during the next postcard.

Paula was the best in this heat. Also Ieva and Gabrielius were kind of okay. All other songs were either boring, or just a plain disaster. I hated Edgaras performance, it was so weird… And of course Lolita.. Just horrible. Can’t understand why people vote for him, and especially weird that the jury gives such high places for him… But I hope he won’t go to Kiev…

I just hope that this would end up as the LT act in Kyiv because, f**k EBU and Eurovision. Why not?

The hell with the “serious” ESC when all is politics and Swedish influence in recent years. I want THIS to be the people’s Brexit/Trump reaction towards EBU. Hahaha…

For the record, I do find it stupid and low-rated as an act, but for the love of Zeus (THAT God), Lithuanians, send this to Kyiv! Troll EBU and Eurovision.

The problem here is… I wasn’t frightened, I was bored… I was expecting something more… well, more! The song is very repititive and so are Lolita’s movements and the dance. I wanted witches, ghosts, demons… you know, a real Halloween party! This is so underwhelming. I was criticizing ‘Up’ from Latvia for being repetitive, but at least their melody is really relaxing. I don’t think Lolita’s melody is particularly great either. Vocals are just okay and you even say (s)he partially lip-synced it. The *only* thing going for this is that it’s not something that gets selected every year. It… Read more »

Worrying. There is no Donny Montell to save them this year!

In 2016, Lithuania had Donny with a swedish song, they were sure they will win, they put their trust in the swedish messiahs, that bring place 1, not just a good result, now they are disappointed as hell and want to troll.
Sad fate for countries that don’t trust in themselves.

@Polegend Godgarina: If I want to see a circus or a comedy show, unlike you, I go to the right places … wanting Eurovision to be an embarrassment for your own sickening entertainment expectations because for some reason that is the Eurovision you grew up with, I cannot but feel sorry for you … hope you give that growing jump when you become 11 … or 12 … or 13 … or whatever … being an adult and respecting music seriously does not bite ..

I get that Lolita Zero is part to promote a movie but it’s taking away from the other performers who take it seriously or that could provide Lithuania with a very good result.

The televoters are ruining it, Gytis and Grazvydas?? I could swear he is getting those votes because of his disability. I hate that votes. At least, Gabrielius is througth, though it seems he will be eliminated in the next round 🙁

Absolute Garbage of a National Final

@ Charles – dd; you’re so aggressive for nothing. I personally enjoy a troll entry or two, the contest doesn’t have to be taken so seriously and it’s nice to have some countries bringing the kiis. If you want a collection of serious ballads, you should watch Sanremo.

Lolita won the heat?? Seriously?
Don’t bother me, unless he wins. If he wins, I’m done.

@Polegend Godgarina: Your concept of talent is disturbing and it requires quite urgently a very dramatic rehab treatment … Wanting Eurovision to be again a joke for your own entertaining sake is frightening … it’s like watching Mariah Carey’s meltdown and her insistence in not addressing her real age … which makes me wonder? How old are you? Never mind … Lolita Zero already answers it. Good luck with that.

So the “power to the people” televoters of Lithuania want to be entertained by someone who does not even sing and has nothing musically to show for but just a random Saturday night second-rate gay club performance … the 2000s are back … the crap is back … and everybody is excited about it. Is this the pill fans expect to take to cure them from all the boring ballads? God lord have mercy! Britney Spears? Carry on lip syncing … you’re forgiven for that after this train-wreck called suitably ZERO emerges from the ashes of … stupidity.

@ bulgariastan – this is just a heat, just wait for the finals where nearly 100k televoters are cast in total. But I doubt Paula will get there seeing how the juries are rightfully trashing her DJ Snake reject.

I’m not concerned, even though my favorite is Paula. She lost to Lolita by 52 votes. If 53 people had voted for Paula, she would have won. If 26 people had switched from Lolita to Paula, Paula would have won.

This is cringe, mostly the part of juries was giving higher point to this piece of drag sh*t than gabrielius

Polegend Godgarina

YAASSS! Talent WON!
I can already lowkey predict the final result:

1. Aiste Pilvelyte (2nd in televote, 1st in jury vote)
2. Lolita Zero (1st in televote, sabotaged by the jury – unless Lithuania decides to troll Russia again)
3. Greta Zazza
4. Mia
