Slip into something blue and yellow, put on your dancing shoes and get ready to move! Tonight the first semi-final of Sweden’s Melodifestivalen 2017 takes place in the Scandinavium Arena in Gothenburg. You can watch the show live on SVT Play from 20:00 CET.

Yesterday we asked you to vote for your favourites to win the semifinal and qualify direkt till final. After counting 1,975 votes, we can now reveal that “Wild Child” singer Ace Wilder is our readers’ favourite to win, having secured 29% of all votes.

Prior to the reveal of rehearsal footage on Thursday, she was also the act our readers were most looking forward to seeing from the artists competing in the first semifinal.

The other artist our readers would like to see advance is Nano, a former prisoner who has turned his life around through music and who will debut at Melodifestivalen this evening. He earned 25% of all the votes.

Last night, following the dress rehearsal, he also won the audience poll, conducted by Sweden’s Melodifestivalklubben immediately after the rehearsal inside the arena.

If our readers were to decide, Dinah Nah and Adrijana would be given a second chance and be sent to Andra Chansen.

Dinah Nah had to go through the Andra Chansen round back in 2015, when she competed with “Make Me (La La La)”. By beating Dolly Style, she made it to the final, but finished last with 22 points. Now she is ready to give us “One More Night”. Dinah earned 18% of all votes cast.

Adrijana is another debutant in this year’s Melfest. Her song “Amare” is in Swedish, despite its title, which means “love” in Latin. She secured 202 votes — or around 10%. You can read our interview with her here.

This means we would be saying hejdå to Melfest 2016 finalist Boris René, two-time Melodifestivalen winner Charlotte Perrelli and humor group De Vet Du.

However, our sources on-the-ground in Sweden believe that Boris will be battling with Ace for a spot in the final, with Nano the clear favourite to win tonight. Boris came second in the Melodifestivalklubben poll.

Poll results: Who should win semi-final 1 of Melodifestivalen 2017?

1. Ace Wilder with “Wild Child” 29% (578 votes)
2. Nano with “Hold On” 27% (537 votes)
3. Dinah Nah with “One More Night” 18% (365 votes)
4. Adrijana with “Amare” 10% (202 votes)
5. Boris René with “Her Kiss” 6% (113 votes)
6. Charlotte Perrelli with “Mitt liv” 5% (107 votes)
7. De Vet Du with “Road Trip” 4% (73 votes)

Funny how people tend to outlook both ends of the tempo spectrum in here. If something is a ballad… it’s boring. If it’s a ‘joke act’ or crazy fast, then it’s annoying. I guess people would prefer if the ESC finals is consisted of 43 mid-tempo safe pop songs. I am glad Road Trip got the second chance. I know that even if they make it to the finals, the chances of them winning are more than slim. Perhaps I wouldn’t even want that, considering how many acts are yet unannounced. However, hearing something different is cool for me.

What a crap result, Road Trip was a mildly entertaining joke song that sucks as an actual song, while One More Night had energy and Dinah had energy. That’s not even getting into Wild Child going direct to final, I’m not an Ace Wilder fan, but at least her previous songs had energy, Wild Child did not. The rest was predictable.

I knew Adrijana and Charlotte will be out first, I think Dinah Nah could end up 5th. Ace and Nano direct to final and Boris and De Vet Du to Andra Chansen

Now Road Trip is the last chance to hear Swedish in the finals among these… Also adding how funny it was… they are my pick!

Let’s put it like this: All 7 acts were good enough, but none had a song that would go straight into my ESC top. Everyone did their best, I believe. Just for the sake of language diversity, I would prefer at least one Swedish language song in the finals.

Nano got a good reaction from the audience. So did Boris Rene. That might be interesting!
There’s something missing in Nano’s voice – I think it’s a lack of enunciation and depth.
In my opinion, Dinah Nah and Charlotte Perrelli gave the best musical performances. But I love Ace Wilder. Bit of a headache this one!

Nano’s song did not convince me… I didn’t like Adrijana as well. Others are really good! I have no idea who will qualify..

Not with that basic and forgettable song. Watch her go to Second Chance, she’s so overrated outside of Sweden.
