Hungary’s national selection A Dal moved one step closer to the grand final, with four acts qualifying for the grand final. Gabi Tóth, Zävodi + Olivér Berkes, Leander Kills and the Kallay Saunders Band will be heading to the grand final next Saturday.

Tonight’s first three qualifiers were determined by a combination of televote and an expert jury made up of Hungarian music industry pros Caramel, Zséda, Károly Frenreisz and Miklós Both.

This vote was won by Gabi Tóth who earned 44 points for her song “Hosszú idök”. She was followed by Zävodi + Olivér Berkes with “#háttérzaj” and Leander Kills with “Élet”, both on 43 points.

The fourth qualifier was selected by a second round of public voting. The public agreed with the results of the first round — the fourth spot went to the Kallay Saunders Band with “17”. They had also placed fourth in the first round.

This will be András Kállay-Saunders third time in the A Dal final. He placed second in 2013 with “My Baby”, he won in 2014 with “Running”, and made the superfinal last year with “Who We Are”. But 2017 marks the first time he’s headed to the final on the public televote lifeline.

The four qualifiers will go on to compete in the grand final of A Dal 2017, next Saturday 18 February. They’ll be joined by the qualifiers from the first semi-final, Joci Pápai, Gina Kanizsa, Gigi Radics and Soulwave. The eight acts will compete to win the ticket to Kyiv and follow the likes of Freddie and Boggie and represent Hungary at Eurovision.

1. Gabi Tóth “Hosszú idök” (44 points)

2. Zävodi + Olivér Berkes “#háttérzaj” (43 points)

3. Leander Kills “Élet” (43 points)

4. Kállay Saunders Band “17” (42 points)

Here is how I saw the second semifinal: 9.513 Gabi Tóth and Freddie Shuman featuring Begi Lotfi: “Hosszú Idok”+ Simply the best out there. Both she and Joci (“Origo”) will need a lot of help from the public to overcome the highway robbery from the jury. I’m actually worried the jury might purposely give them low scores to knock them both out of the super-final to clear the way for Gina. Which might not help, because the public will likely give the title to someone else, like Leander Kills. 9.388 Kállay-Saunders Band: “Seventeen” (remix)+’ I thought the original music was… Read more »

Gabi was really good! Deserved the final! Maybe a song in their native language from Hungary this year? I would love to see that.

Adam Szabo didn’t qualify, but Saunders did instead?! I’m so done… congrats Hungary on last place in semi-final 2. You deserve it with your trashy boring folk ballads.

OK, honestly, Gabi Toth is a big nope for me. Like, give her some chill pills or something. And it’s a mess of a song. Sorry, nope.

“Origo” is better and they are from the same “area” of songs (Hungarian vibes and such). Send him to Kyiv for a better result. A screaming lady (and in an act that looks like a witchcraft) ain’t a good idea. 😛

On another note – ZÄVODI + OLIVÉR BERKES – I like their song. It’s very American and blues. Likey.

@ Janek – because he’s a watered down Freddie with an impersonal song, lyrics full of grammar mistakes, and no artistic identity. I’d rather be worried about why András made it, instead… the song is super weak and his voice is whiny, he’s just overrated because he’s a past Eurovision success. But would Europe vote for that forgettable song? I don’t think so.

Gabi got the highest amount of points of the night. Talent WON once again! But that #hátterzáj song… just no, the people aren’t here for that mess.
