eurovision 2017 big five acts poll

Did we skip a couple of weeks and not notice? It’s only February 12 and we already know the acts and songs from all of the Big Five countries for Eurovision 2017. Last night, we saw Italy and Spain confirm who they’ll be sending to Kyiv, after the United Kingdom, Germany and France’s reveals in the previous couple of weeks. The question now is: who is your favourite?

Of course, there’s a chance that the songs will be reworked still before we reach Kyiv. We already know Alma is likely to have a revamp (the song is described as the “radio”, not “Eurovision” version). The UK is also said to be looking at reworking parts of “Never Give Up On You”.

But as it stands, these are our songs — so which is your favourite so far? Check out all five songs below, then vote in our poll:

Eurovision 2017 — Big Five Countries

France — Alma, “Requiem”

France are the only Big Five country to select their act internally, as they went with Alma and her song “Requiem”. After their return to the top 10 with Amir, chosen in the same method, that was the obvious choice. It’s also a similar choice in singer, as Alma is looking to launch her pop career. What better place than Eurovision to do so!

Germany — Levina, “Perfect Life”

Levina won the 3 hour marathon Unser Song contest with her song “Perfect Life”. It wasn’t exactly a close fight, either: she actually beat herself in the final round, thanks to the structure of the contest.

Also: yes, it does sound a bit like “Titanium” by David Guetta & Sia. But we’re being assured that it definitely isn’t a direct plagiarism!

Italy — Francesco Gabbani, “Occidentali’s Karma”

Namaste! Francesco Gabbani won the historic Sanremo Festival in Italy, becoming the first person to win the main competition a year after taking the “Newcomer” award. In doing so, he earned the right to go to Kyiv as Italy’s representative — which he immediately said “yes” to. What’s more, he’ll be bringing his winning song, “Occidentali’s Karma” with him. We just hope the gorilla makes it with him!

Spain — Manel Navarro, “Do It For Your Lover”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhuRRSylN-E

Manel Navarro might not have been the people’s choice in Spain, but he’ll be their act in Kyiv. Manel won the final of Objetivo Eurovision in a dead heat tie with Mirela. “Do It For Your Lover” was the jury’s choice, prompting angry scenes from the studio audience.

The anger from some Spanish fans is a stark contrast to Manel’s laid-back entry. Some of our Wiwi Jury already noted its comparison to Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song” — could this be as big a hit?

United Kingdom — Lucie Jones, “Never Give Up On You”

The first of the Big Five acts to be chosen, Lucie Jones triumphed in Eurovision: You Decide. The former X Factor UK contestant — who was eliminated from that contest by Jedward — won over five other acts. Her song, “Never Give Up On You”, is written in part by former ESC winner, Emmelie de Forrest. Whilst it wasn’t a big hit in our pre-contest poll, Lucie seems to be gaining some traction with fans thanks to her great live vocal.

There are the songs, now it’s time for you to have your say on which is your favourite. Vote in our poll below, but remember: you can vote for as many acts as you’d like, but only once:

[polldaddy poll=9663039]

We’ll update you with results as the poll continues, as well as with any revamps to the songs. In the meantime, let us know who has your support in the comments section below!

Alma’s song translation Love dies, love is born Centuries pass and disappear What you believe to be death It’s a season and nothing more One day tired of this wandering You will go away, whatever Because the world will still turn Even when we won’t turn anymore Kiss me, tell me that you love me Make me smile in the middle of a requiem Kiss me, tell me that you love me Make me dance until time takes back from us What it gave to us A year, two years, a hundred years of happiness Then life picks you like… Read more »

@Did: WOW!! Thank you so much for the link!
Alma sings much better at the piano – an amazing performance, that also shows off the songs’ darker qualities. I love it! 🙂

My ranking (all the way from Singapore): 5. Spain Just exactly what on earth happen to Espana? It was a fair disappointment for Spain during the past 2 year, finishing near the bottom despite having near-perfect songs. However, this year there’s a almost definite sure they will finish in the same position again. I have no hate for the singer, but do you think you can win with basically an even boring Frans-like song? The fans were crying foul about the “rigged” results and judging by the alleged corruption behind it, I hope this is true because I want Mirela’s… Read more »

Hello! In the first place I say that to the Spanish we do not mind that you do not vote us in the end of eurovision; Whether with Manel or Mirela, Europe would vote us equally badly because they have courage. Vote for the quality of the song not by the way in which he was chosen winner in the gala. Vuestra escusa perfecta es la corrupción .

In my opinion the Italian song is the best from all points of view. With all respect I find nothing exciting in the French song except the one who sings it. So I say convinced: ITALY 2018.

Spain is a half song, during all the second part he say only “do it for your lover”
Uk and Germany are good songs and singers but not my taste.
The 2 best for me are Italy and France and i vote for them, of course we need to wait the revamped version for France but i love it, more than Amir’s song !!! Francesco has all to be the winner 🙂 but i will prefer a french victory.

Here are my picks: 5th: Spain – Not inherently bad, but unremarkable, I feel like I’ve heard a thousand songs like this one. The NF mess is likely to factor in against him. 4th: Germany – Some notes do sound similar to David Guetta’s Titanium. Other than that, sounds flat to me. 3rd: UK – Lucie’s voice is lovely, but that’s pretty much it. 2nd: France – The strings in the background become somewhat annoying during the chorus. Other than that, it’s a good track. Alma has a beautiful voice. 1st: Italy – Charismatic singer, fresh sound. Not sure if… Read more »

Apart from Germany, the Big Five are extremely good this year. I basically love all of them, they’re very close in my top. I voted for Spain and Italy, though.
