Selectia Nationala 2017

Last night, during a live broadcast in Romania, TVR‘s expert jury picked the 15 semi-finalists for Romania’s Selectia Nationala 2017. And on 26 February five more heads will roll as the jury cuts them down to ten finalists. As we wait for the battle of voices and questionable choreography to commence, we just have to ask: Who do you think should make it through?

According to TVR’s new rules for organising Selectia Nationala 2017, the expert jury had to sit through 72 live auditions before picking the semi-finalists. This enabled them to make an informed opinion based on the act’s singing abilities and stage presence, as opposed to their ability to be Auto-Tuned. And while the jurors are moving things from 72 to 15 and soon to 10, the competition’s 5 March final will be decided solely by the public.

In any event, let’s practice power to the people. You can listen to all of the songs — listed in alphabetical order of the artists’ names — below. Then vote in our poll. We will close the poll on the day of the semi-final (26 February), when we will present the results. Choose carefully…Romania is watching!

Alexandra Craescu – “Hope”

Ana-Maria Mirica – “Spune-mi tu” (You Tell Me)

Cristina Vasiu – “Set The Skies On Fire”

D–LEMA – “Adventure”

Eduard Santha – “Wild Child”

Elize & No Stress – “Fara bariere” (No Barriers)

Ilinca feat. Alex Florea – “Yodel It!”

Instinct – “Petale” (Petals)

Maxim – “Adu-ti aminte” (Remember)

M I H A I – “I Won’t Surrender”

https://youtu.be/LddkXw7bNyQ

Ramona Nerra – “Save Me”

Tavi Colen & Emma – “We Own The Night”

Tudor Turcu – “Limitless”

Xandra – “Walk On By”

Zanga – “Doua sticle” (Two Bottles)

Poll: Who should win the semi-final of Romania’s Selectia Nationala 2017?

You can vote for as many acts as you’d like, but you can only vote ONE time. Be sure to click the box next to each act you want to support before pressing submit.

Esti tiganca? Si daca da, care-i problema? By the way, mie imi place trupa Maxim.

Read more »

In primul rand, constructia muzicala, cu introducerea usoara in melodie, care pune mintea ascultatorului… Read more »

Mihai is a pathetic classless act, and a severely mentally disturbed individual using most of his time posing in his underwear. His song is mediocre, his glory days are over. Ilinca & Alex, Xandra, Ramona are the best choices. Maxim is a boy band which will hopefully disappear as soon as their homonally-imbalanced fans will grow out of this hysterical phase. Romania’s Eurovision selection process is a pitiful fight among various persons with political and economical interests. It is flawed by greed, incompetence and corruption, so as long as these capital sins will prevail in Romanian society, nothing wil ever… Read more »

Read more »

What a bad collection of songs… what is that?… I remember Bosquito and Bere Gratis… only stupid things from 15 years ago. And the most popular is Yodel that I can’t listen after 10 seconds… toilet break. Last year was bad too, Ovidiu Anton was everybody’s joke on youtube.

Today I had the first day off in a few weeks so I took the time to listen all 15 songs. Well, what can I say? If these were best of 73 then… God save Romania! Still, one song had something catchy and gave me the impulse to listen it again. Yodel it was and I feel I have to tell you this is the best song this country released for long time for esc. I saw it’s favourite in Romania but also in many other countries and this was really encouraging. Finally, they will came up with a fresh,… Read more »

In the end, the public vote will decide. The jury should not dump one of the public favorites, first 5 – Ilinca, Ramona, Maxim, Xandra, Mihai, unless they have information that somebody is trying to cheat the vote. Seeing voting in the main competition the past years… Romania’s strength is to send the entry with the most appeal to public, juries always buried us as much as they could.

For the last time I will say that I’m not a fan of anybody and I don’t work for anybody. Why is so hard to believe that I’m just an ordinary user and that I don’t think that ‘ yodel it ‘ is such a great idea? This is my last message, send anybody, nothing can be worse than last year disqualification.

The song SAVE ME to Ramonei Nerra has a complex composition, transmits energy and vitality, and, after hearing it, remains in mind for a long time, characteristic quality only the best music. E ‘played beautifully, with a very nice stage presence. I consider it is the perfect song for the spirit of Eurovision.

@Camelia87 and @Elena Sirbu I would kindly ask you to take a look at the results (so far) of this poll. If you are so convinced that yodel song is a very bad choice for your country, how can you explain such a big difference between Ramonna & Mihai and this song? 500-600 votes between them… pretty much I’ll say…

@Elena Sirbu you are based on what when you do such affirmation? Are you a musician? Were you in ESC before? Or maybe you found the secret of making the winner song in ESC? I really don’t think that! I could accept your opinion if you would write that: In my opinion that’s not a song for ESC… but since you didn’t I don’t accept it! Try harder next time!

@Camelia87 You’re tying too hard to revive Mihai.. You must be his manager lady, otherwise I can’t explain why are you deaf and blind.. Claiming that this is his last chance because of his age is a very bad strategy… Europe is not that stupid to feel pity for him and give him the big trophy just because you say this could be his last oportunity… I suggest you to find another strategy instead of criticize other song (please read Yodel it! song), because you are doing nothing else but making Mihai’s try to revive his carrier even harder then… Read more »

Rap in Eurovision is suicide. I’m sure that Paula Seling and Ovi Jacobsen know that. The jury is the only hope for Romania.

Camelia87@ So you’re basing your conceptions about what is not hated? If you want votes in Eurovision you need to be someone’s favourite, not to not be hated. Being hated but also loved gains you lots more votes than not being hated, nobody is giving votes for a song for not hating it, it’s pretty logical. So I guess you’re miscalculating. Also, this discussions about rap, ballads, rock, all type of genres… in Eurovision ot was proven that a song is either good, bad, or mediocre, all sort of genres had also good and weak results in the history of… Read more »

I am normal user,I don’t know the artists, but I’ve just said my opinion.Yodel it reminds me of that ”advice” from ”Love love peace peace” : ”In real life of course, this is thirty years old but in Eurovision, it will give your number a contemporary feel”. This is what many fans of yodel might think, that rap is still alive, and that Europe will be impressed by yodel.I prefer Mihai’s ballad and don’t worry,in the end ballads will not be majority, and 200 millions viewers (+215 jury members) don’t hate ballads anyway.

Camelia87 – you’ve left about 10 comments trying to degrade yodel it for the great song that it is.
If Mihai had a song as good as he did in 2006 id want him to perform again. Yodel it! is different, sounds great with her voice as she starred in the voice and so did he the year after. Look at the views and likes of it on youtube of a general indication of how good it is instead of looking for pitiful fans that pry on giving it hatred on comment sections.

Camelia, so you’re saying that ‘I Won’t Surrender’ is Romanian? I don’t see any country sending any own cultural song. And let’s not be obsessed, ‘Yodel It’ is not a yodelling song, it is a combination between more styles, mixtured into a modern composition, there are yodelling influences, cause you can’t really send a pure yodelling song into a modern contest. And that’s why it is very original. This was the way also Cezar was criticised and was given no chance in 2013, how could you send opera in Eurovision? After that he won the televote in the semi-finals and… Read more »

A ballad is timeless and I trust in Mihai’s experience on stage, but yodler is not romanian, many coutries could’ve sent it before, but they didn’t,it will be like The Netherlands 2010,a song that is detested in its country. You’ve said about Belarus that is a song for festival, not for Eurovision, why is different this yodler? Is weird to sell others their own culture.

AurelianTamisan

@Camelia87

So, you say yodelling is common for Europe but an usual ballad we’ve heard over and over again, not? Let’s be sincere, ‘Yodel It’ is original, is not a joke at all, the song sounds very good. ‘I won’t Surrender’ is very usual, is common, nothing to impress. Mihai has great vocal abilities, but like last year, he didn’t choose a good song for Eurovision, it wouldn’t steal the show, the song is mediocre. Period.

If Mihai will not be in Eurovision this year,he will miss a good song and his age is not so young like others. This is his moment, not an yodler that everyboody is tired of in central Europe, how stupid for romanians to think they can sell to others what they already know too well, like selling ice to the eskimo.
Don’t say I’m Mihai fan,I’m not,I want Romania to have a decent song, and to not be accused of being bitter.

Mihai is the best option for Romania, and I’m not a fan of his,I’m more a fan of Costi Ionita(Mandinga 2012 song-writer), but I think this year belongs to Mihai. Can’t you see that some people think that Yodel it is just a troll because Romania wants revenge after last year? Romania is not a country that trolls,Romania is always serious about Eurovision, but this yodel will be seen as a troll/joke.

I don’t think Mihai or other songs can be in top 15. Maybe only Yodel can be in the top 15 for jury and in top 5 for televoting, so yodel is the best option and with a great show will be great.

I’m definitely choosing Ramona Nerra . “Save Me” is that kind of song that gets stuck in your mind, addictive, strong lyrics, natural and powerful vocal, the entire song is beautifuly builded up, instrumentaly also great produced and the thing that I love the most is the how great it is performed live on stage. I think the song and the artist match perfectly with Eurovision performance. Go Ramona ! 🙂

So Mihai’s fans are starting again with the desperate methods to gain votes on his side, by inventing all types of destructive and stupid arguments against other songs :)) This is pretty funny. Calm down guys, nobody is against Mihai, when he will have a great song, we will support him, so far, if you say that ‘Yodel It’ is nothing impressive and that ‘yodelling’ is common, what sould we say about a type of ballad we’re hearing year and year?! @Colin It is not a great National Final, but I would say it isn’t because of the jury that… Read more »

Remember how I said that Iceland has the best NF, cause all songs are at least decent… well, it’s the opposite case for Romania. After first listening, not a single song stood to me as ‘great’. Hence, MIHAI’s decent song seams to be the best choice for Romania. I dislike his diva behavior, but the song is a decent effort and perhaps it’s his time to win since he obviously ‘won’t surrender’. What’s up with this? All these songs seam so boring and forgettable. Yodel It is perhaps the most distinctive one, but it didn’t strike me as precisely very… Read more »

Mihai is the only entry for Romania,I’m from Romania too and I don’t trust the people that will vote for him in the final. The only good thing isthe jury to stop that stupid Yodel during the semifinal. Rap never had and will never have a chance in Eurovision, and Romania thinks that yodel is something great.Yodel is new for romanians, but in other countries is etno music and is nothing special that a girl can yodel, only for Romania is something new.Jury can stop the yodel and are many reasons,is bad song and many things can be said against it.

Doesn’t Mihai’s song sound a lot like Samanta Tina’s “I need a hero” from the 2013 Latvian selection?
