supernova 2017 final poll

On Sunday, February 26, Latvia will choose its next Eurovision hopeful in the final of Supernova 2017. Of course, there’s no pressure at all on the winner: Supernova has, after all, led to a 100% qualification rate for Latvia. Of course, Latvia still like to flirt with their “oddball” choices — let’s remember that Catalepsia were second last year.

But we want to know who y’all think should be the successor to Justs and Aminata. You can find all four songs and a little bit about each act so far below. Then, you can go vote in our poll. Results will be announced shortly before the final of Supernova on Sunday.

Supernova 2017 — Finalists

The Ludvig — “I’m In Love With You”

The Ludvig’s progression in Supernova 2017 is a topic of much debate. He’s been saved by the jury in both the second heat and the semi final, despite what looks to be a good amount of streams on Spotify. The catch is that the jury has pointed out their belief that some of these streams may be fake, no doubt passed along by LTV and Spotify themselves.

At no point has Ludvig been accused of being behind this “cheating”, as it were, though. Still, it has mostly overshadowed the 16 year old’s song and performances, which have been consistent throughout the show.

My Radiant You — “All I Know”

After winning over many fans from their performance at Supernova 2016, My Radiant You have continued to look strong going in to this week’s final. They won both public and jury vote in the second heat, then advanced to the final on the public vote in the semi-final.

The song definitely comes to life on stage, with Janis and Ilze having honed their craft from last year. They topped our semi-final poll, but will they do it again at this stage?

Santa Danelevica — “Your Breath”

Perhaps the most surprising inclusion in the final, Santa has impressed whilst staying under the radar so far. The jury has saved her in both the heat and semi-final, but her performances have definitely merited those decisions.

Before the contest, the Wiwi Jury viewed “Your Breath” as “confusing” several times over. On stage though, the performance comes together and Santa stands out. Could she keep her run going and make it all the way to Eurovision?

Triana Park — “Line”

Are Triana Park the favourites for the final? After winning the semi-final, they must be seen as one of the top choices, with the public also putting them through in the second heat. The group have been trying to go to Eurovision on-and-off since 2008 — is it finally their year?

“Line” would certainly stand out amongst the songs selected for Eurovision so far. Lead singer Agnese also busts out some serious dance moves during the performance. Is it your favourite though?

Those are the four songs: now, it’s time for y’all to have your say. Vote in our poll below, but remember the rules. You can choose as many of the four songs as you’d like, but you can only vote once. Make that vote count!

The Ludvig is one of my favourite songs in any national final this year. Am all in on this!

They’re all pretty terrible to be honest

Saying that Ludvig and Santa were saved by the jury is pretty misleading, because even the Latvian audience doesn’t know which acts were saved by the jury, because they never specified it. The winner is announced, and the rest three are called in random order. Stop spreading misinformation.

Triana Park for the win!

No wiwibloggs is right
Other Eurovision sites have mentioned the same as jury and televote qualifiers. The official results have them separately.

Why are you lying, Wiwibloggs? They announced the finalists in random order, so you can not know if The Ludvig was voted by the public or chosen by the juries.

We need Triana Park in ESC! Not only to skake things up, in a multitude of ballads, but because it is a really cool song!

Well, if Triana will carry it like she did, I’d prefer to see either Ludvig or Santa. But Santa has forgettable ballad, just slightly more graced with contemporability while Ludvig is original pretender to hypnotise but definately for narrow taste. Still not sure if I really like the song.

Hola Colin
Well Mirela did win the televote quite convincingly and Gabi Toth would have won had she not been outsed by the jury.
Brooke was unable to deliver live and the hype in Malta was for Janice and Claudia.
Though Latvia is truly a Russian roulette.

Id be happy with Triana or Santa but I believe as Latvia are in a harder semi, they need a song that will stand out more like triana’s song.

To anyone who is interested, the lead vocalist also has a solo project! Here is her first song (I think): https://youtu.be/nywTGXOPzhw

(Wouldn’t recommend watching this at night if you’re easily scared or creeped out)

Triana Park grew on me in through this contest. I wasn’t too excited by the studio version. I thought the first live was very interesting, but with the vocals needing a little work. Much better in the semifinal and now I like the song and hope it wins.

Based on the videos above I can see none of them qualifying for the Grand Final. Line sounds like a good song, maybe if the band replaced the lead singer for someone who can actually carry a tune it could work. As it stands, I think Ludvig sucks the least?

Remember when Justs was the clear favorite, then voting in the final opened and he was ahead BUT then suddenly Catalepsia was nearing in very closely. In fact, did they win the televote? Thankfully Justs won the online voting!

This year, I don’t care about Latvia’s choices. Not interesting. Probably Tirana if they want to stand out.

Triana could work if she focuses on nailing the vocals, as it stands the performance is underwhelming.
Ludvig has always been a cut above the rest for me and I would be voting for him if he went to Kyiv.
The other two just aren’t competition songs, they’d both be lost in the semi final. I highly doubt either Radiant you or Santa would qualify.

I love LINE, but the live performance is underwhelming. The live song doesn’t open up until she starts dancing and really wails on the last chorus. Too late in the song to make me think it will be successful live in Kyiv. I will stick to the studio version. My Radiant You and The Ludvig are the better options.

has to be triana honestly
other songs are good but as i’ve said a million times the energy she brings to the stage is amazing (definitely qualifying)

Triana Park or nothing! The lead singer is charismatic, she has amazing voice.
The song is different to others and different to already chosen ESC-songs.

It could stand out at ESC.

Colin – If this was any other country I’d agree with you. But “Line” is dominating the Latvian charts and already won its heat and semi-final. I don’t think Wiwibloggs’ kiss of death can stop it from winning.

Santa is my favorite but I expect and accept that Triana Park will win. Honestly, I don’t mind who wins as long as it isn’t My Radiant You.

First 100 votes suggest a landslide victory for Triana Park on Wiwi-poll.

Triana Park – 62 votes
My Radiant You – 18 votes
The Ludvig – 10 votes
Santa Danelevica – 10 votes

However, Latvia has shown many times that their taste is different than Wiwibloggs. According to these polls, Markus Riva and Katrina Cirule should have been winners of their respective semis. Moreover, remember how polls predicted overwhelming victories of Mirela, Brooke Borg and Gabi Toth. As this is going, we can easily expext Santa or The Ludvig for Latvia.

Triana Park is the obvious choice. My Radiant You have a cute song as well, but nothing memorable – if Latvia wants to stand out in that ballad-fodded semi, they need to send a quality dance song like Line. The other two are just there to fill it up, I guess.

Currently the Latvian Spotify chart is as follows:
#3 Triana Park
#9 The Ludvig
#11 Santa Danelevica
#21 My Radiant You
