BQL Maraaya EMA 2017

Slovenia are less than 24 hours away from making that all-important decision on who will be their Eurovision 2017 representative in Kyiv. After the two semi-finals on February 17 and 18, the eight finalists of EMA 2017 have been confirmed.

Over the past week, we asked our readers who they wanted to win the final of EMA 2017 by voting in our poll. A grand total of 2,911 votes were cast and BQL — pronounced as “be cool”, not “B-Q-L” — took top spot with 39.47% of the overall votes. Their entry “Heart of Gold”, co-written with Slovenia’s Eurovision 2015 representatives Maraaya, earned them 1,149 votes.

However, the duet of Anej and Rok Piletich look like they’ll have to expect some stiff competition. Finishing a not too distant second is last year’s runner-up Raiven, with her entry “Zažarim”. She picked up an overall total of 860 votes, just under 30%. After narrowly losing out to ManuElla at last year’s EMA superfinal, will this be her year?

Rounding up the top three on our poll is former Misija Evrovizija participant Nika Zorjan. Her entry “Fse” earned 417 votes, that’s 14% overall.

EMA 2017 poll results

  1. BQL – “Heart of Gold” – 39.47% (1,149 votes)
  2. Raiven – “Zažarim” – 29.54% (860 votes)
  3. Nika Zorjan – “Fse” – 14.32% (417 votes)
  4. Omar Naber – “On My Way” – 6.15% (179 votes)
  5. Nuška Drašcek – “Flower in the Snow” – 5.02% (146 votes)
  6. Tim Kores – “Open Fire” – 2.54% (74 votes)
  7. Sell Out – “Ni panike” – 1.51% (44 votes)
  8. KiNG FOO – “Wild Ride” – 1.44% (42 votes)

Total votes: 2,911

Tina Gorenjak, Maja Martina Merljak, Tanja Kocman and Mario Galunic will co-host the final of EMA 2017, which starts at 19:55 CET. You can watch the show here. The winner will be decided by a 50/50 combination of televotes and six regional juries.

Guest performances for the EMA 2017 final include Jamala, Tony Cetinski and last year’s EMA winner ManuElla. Whoever wins knows they’ll be performing in the second half of the first semi-final at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest on 9 May.

@Dave – How is Zažarim a ballad? If you complain about the genre, at least be able to recognize it.

I am so looking forward to tonight. Few of the songs are quite good: BQL, Nuška, Nika, Omar. As long as it’s not Wild Ride, Slovenia gets an upgrade from their kindergarten song of last year.

Something extraordinary? Lmao a ballad from Raiven would be sooo outstanding because we don’t have enough of them

1) Nika
2) Raiven
3) BQL
4) Nuska
5) Tim
6) Sell Out
7) Omar
8) King Foo
But there is a huge gap betwenn place 3 and 4!!! But this is an amazing selection with really great staging and songs. Funny that little Slovenia is able to organize this and here in Germany we just manage to get 2 boring songs:D without any kind of good show

I don’t think Slovenia will qualify if they choose BQL. Their song is generic and won’t stand out. I’m #TeamNika. If not Nika, then at least Raiven.

BQL is so overrated on this bloggs. They have much better song than UK 2016 and because that maybe final and in final from 14 to 20 place
Singer at piano for my taste is not good singer live.
Better song than them for me have Nika, Omar, Nuska and Raiven

BQL seem to be huge favorites, and for all the right reasons. Along with Nika Zorjan, I think they’re going to make Slovenia qualify despite the competition from that semi 🙂

Looking forward to a great show with hopefully the right outcome. Go for gold, BQL! The two brothers are the best and most importantly, they have by far the most enjoyable song. A catchy, special enough tune I would actually download.

1. Raiven
2. Nika Zorjan
3. BQL
4. Nuska Drascek
5. Omar Naber
6. King Foo
7. Sell Out
8. Tim Kores
As long as any of the top 5 wins I would be really happy. Raiven still slays and the fact that she had some tehnical issues in the semi final, I think she will slay even more.
