From ten finalists to three superfinalists to one winner — Anja Nissen has emerged victorious at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017! The Voice of Australia winner has become the DMGP queen and will now sing “Where I Am” at Eurovision 2017 in Kyiv.

After seeing the ten artists perform their numbers, a panel of five Danish Eurovision fans together with the Danish public voted three artists to the superfinal.

Ida Una, Johanna Beijbom and Anja Nissen then performed their songs again and it was Anja who got the most votes.

Ida finished second with “One” and Johanna Beijnom third with “A.S.A.P.”

Our readers’ favourite to win, the living doll Sada Vidoo, wasn’t among the top three. But Anja Nissen finished second in our poll, suggesting our readers will still be happy.

The artists together with the DMGP hosts Annette Heick and Johannes Nymark opened the show by performing “Dansevise” — the Eurovision 1963 winning song.

We also saw a performance by the Olsen Brothers, who won the contest in 2000 with “Fly on the Wings of Love”.

After winning the contest in 2013 and finishing ninth the following year, Denmark has failed to qualify to the final twice in a row. This year Denmark is hoping to get back to the final from the second semifinal of the contest.

Late I am in posting this; but here is my take on the contest, anyway, which was extremely hard to evaluate because none of them were a worthy challenger to Jon Henrik, Wiktoria or Loreen at MF: 1st round: 9.300 Anja Nissen: “Where I Am” (super-finalist) The best package sent here, period; vocals and music. 9.288 Jeanette Bonde: “Hurricane” I actually thought she would earn a spot with a song that started out calm but builds up to a thunderous roar. 9.275 Thomas Ring: “Vesterbro” Probably the one song that didn’t try to sound like the others. I was very… Read more »

Whoever keeps commenting that Anja won because of the juries is wrong. The Super Final was PURELY televoting – no juries at all. Anja won 64% of the televote, which was the most, so she won far and square. That’s why last year even though the dreadful boy group won no one could complain as the Danes had voted for them the most.

It wasn’t the strongest seliction for me the Danish one! Most songs sound the same to me! But the live performance of “Where I am” was amazing! She’s great!
I don’t know how well she’ll do in Kiev, as Denmark often struggles to qualify.

Anja is certainly gorgeous, charesmatic, talented singer with great voice..
We all agree on that.
But such pity that her song doesn’t match her persona & it sucks.

Mainly & mostly lets not forget that Eurovision is a SONG contest.
So its not about really which singer can necessarilly sing better
or is prettier or is more sympathetic / ETC than others.
Lets we shall focus on the things that truly matter the most.

I love watching Anja attempting to speak Danish. It’s the most endearing thing I’ve seen in this Eurovision season. I want to see her in the final simply for the fact that I doubt that any other country will select a more endearing human being than her. Cuteness overload. 🙂

Even IF poor Ida had won the televoting with (lets say) 99% (her percentage would be converted to 49,5% with the 50/50) earning (lets say) 990,000 votes, she would still NOT win! Anja would earn the 1% of 10,000 votes (her percentage would be converted to 0,5% with the 50/50) but she would manage to WIN instead! IDA : 49,5% (televoting) + 0% (0/5 juries) = 49,5% // LOSS! ANJA : 0,5% (televoting) + 50% (5/5 juries) = 50,5 % // WIN! Really tragic that just 5 jurors had the power to cancel automatically many thousands votes that were casted… Read more »

She has a great voice but the song ist just too “meh” and forgettable (which is a problem with many Eurovision acts unfortunately 🙁 )
Nevertheless, good luck Denmark! You produced a great show back in 2014 and I hope they will again someday 🙂

The person below who’s claiming that 100% of the jury vote went to Anja is putting forth a claim without giving evidence. First of all, how do you know that the jury members’ voting procedure was to select only one act and give no points to the other acts? At least show the proof! And where did you find these detailed results, or are you (incorrectly) deriving them from your conception of the voting system?

Before the show my favorite was Ida Una, but the liveshow showed that her vocals aren’t strong enough for ESC. Listen closely – she was off-key several times.
It doesn’t matter how great the song is if the performers vocals aren’t strong enough.

Anja totally nailed it. She blew me away. She won’t win, but I think Denmark have a better chance qualifying with Anja.

I am generally against juries overruling the public to this extent but after last year, the Danish people kinda forfeited their right to vote by the pure ridiculousness of their choice.
I think neither of the songs in question have what it takes to get Denmark back to the final so cannot get too worked up over it.

The Danes clearly wanted Ida to win! The actual stats of the televoting alone. 1st) Ida – 52% (26% with the 50/50) She won by landslide over Anja actually!! 2nd) Anja – 28% (14% with the 50/50) 3rd) Johanna – 20% (10% with the 50/50) And here the stats of the juries alone. ** The juries had to vote only 1 act each! And all 5 of them voted for Anja! So Anja took the whole pie of their 50% share!! 1st) Anja 100% (50% with the 50/50) 2nd) Ida – 0% (0% with the 50/50) 2nd) Johanna – 0%… Read more »

Song is about the middle of the pack for me, around about the same place as Germany, but as many others have said the vocals are top tier. As far as the Australian stuff goes, as is always the case for those of international backgrounds at Eurovision, she’ll do well with the Aussie televoters sure. But at least that can be done while also voting for a strong act 😉 Big production please, DR. Great staging can boost this to top 10, phoning it in might risk not qualifying. If she has that vocal on the night the juries should… Read more »

@Marc

Ever since the polls started in 2010 (and continued through its debut in 2015) Australia has never voted for the host country in its top 10 (although Sweden came close in 2013 in 11th place). In fact I am not sure if we will end up voting Ukraine this year despite consistently voting them every year (except for 2013).

Call it a curse in Eurovision.

@Charles – ” “too much alike uptempo tunes where nobody knows when one ends and the other one starts … and lot a of screaming …” ” – the Danish MGP is like that these past 3 years. Hence the nonQ at ESC (this year included!)

It’s a nice song but feels a decade to old. The kind of song Sweden or Norway would have had as a finalist in 2005.
Still the vocals are amazing and the song is better than most of the chosen acts so far. Will bring Denmark back in the final!

@Marc: Australia follows Eurovision just to have an excuse to throw shade at Europe and European music … apparently this has been a hobby for Australians for the last 30 something years … yet … they have the nerve to send Guy Sebastian and Dami Inn to tell us that our music sucks … except if it’s crazy fun like Belgium last year … in other words … they like Bruno Mars and Fleur East … but hate Jason Mraz … it’s boring for them … this coming from the land of INXS and Kylie Minogue ad Tina Arena.

It is a pure pleasure to watch Anja perform. She looks so Danish and I love that, especially when she puts on her brighter-than-the-sun smile. Who would not lay down his armor for that Nordic sensation? Her powerhouse vocals and her Danish features make me enjoy this act quite a bit. Which makes it even more regrettable she doesn’t go to Kiev with a better song. To think what she could have done with an original song. She’s the female version of Omar Naber to me – I adore the singers but their songs are just not up to their… Read more »

I’m unsure as to whether she actually won the superfinal. The superfinal was 50% Jury and 50% Televoting – although she actually won in a landslide, it’s perfectly feasible that Ida won the superfinal televote but each of the 6 fan jurors put Anja on top. Not saying that’s the case but it is perfectly feasible.

As for the song, 2nd best choice for Denmark (after Ida) so I can’t really complain. I think they’ll make the final this year but they won’t really trouble once there.

Discussion about qualification not needen! This is a qualifier!

If this song was releashed by Kelly Clarkson, it would have been TOP10 worldwide. Well done, Anja!

I can see this doing quite good at jury voting cause it has a strong pop sound and quality delvered by strong vocalist.
