triana park supernova 2017 final

Get the neon out of the closet! Following four weeks of competition, a lot of Riga Beaver and a four-song showdown in Sunday’s final of Supernova 2017Triana Park have won with their song “Line”. Next stop? Eurovision 2017 in Kyiv!

To say that Triana Park and lead singer Agnese Rakovska beat to their own drum is an understatement. Loud, brash, edgy and just a little bit dirty, they mix electro, hip-hop and pop to great effect — and with their very unique signature. Go to their web site. As of February 26 you’ll see Agnese wearing a cap that says KRAP. She does her and she does it right!

Triana Park — “Line”, SUPERNOVA 2017 FINAL

Our poll favourites, the group beat Santa Danelevica, The Ludvig and My Radiant You.

Voting was decided solely by the public’s vote and Spotify streams.

The jury panel was present, however, to give their thoughts about each act.

Amongst those on the jury was Latvia’s sole Eurovision winner, Marie N. Will Triana Park be able to replicate her feat from 2002 and bring the contest back to Riga?

Supernova 2017 Final — Running Order

1. Santa Danelevica — “Your Breath”
2. The Ludvig — “I’m In Love With You”
3. My Radiant You — “All I Know”
4. Triana Park — “Line”

Also in tonight’s show, we saw performances from a number of acts. Juror (and Latvia’s 2009 act) Intars Busulis took to the stage, as did 2016 representative Justs. Justs performed his new single, “Message To You”, which includes lyrics about following back on Instagram. (We know y’all saw those photos and are looking for more…)

Riga Beaver, meanwhile, kept our nerves down with some rhythmic ribbon twirling. We also got a “prophecy” that he may read out Latvia’s votes at Eurovision! Could the dream finally come true for his fans?

What do you think about Latvia’s decision? Can Triana Park bring them to the final for the third year in a row? Shout out your thoughts on the wiwibloggs app, or let us know in the comments section below!

music is the key, never said people don’t like rock. I like rock too. And I am sure the rockers voted. But the fact is Georgia got more love from the juries than the voters last year. They qualified thanks to the juries, they wouldn’t have qualified if we only went by tele-voting

Great choice Latvia! Finally there will be something interesting and exciting in the sea of ballads! Coming from Dziesma to this is remarkable. Good for you!

@Denis

As for Georgia last year, maybe you underrate the music taste of the voters. A lot of us LOE rock music. persaonlly I think georgia qualifying last year the best thing with ESC 2016

Would you (or anyone) call this song a rock song? Maybe? A bit alternative…

I really like the song, but personally think the lead singer should improve on her live vocals. I prefer the studio version rather than their live version of the song to be honest.

Good choice though. I hope they do well.

Impressed by Latvia’s pick.
I guess Latvia has done a surprisingly good job for 3 years in a row.

Continuing juries’ line – another good criteria is vocal recreation of studio version and it’s not good here. But in the end its known that juries are inside own corrupted cogs and can act for own interest/fellas/blocks. I remembered clear Justs’ vocals that really revived his song during final but that didn’t helped him with average song. Lurking in past same was with Who See and Sofi Marinova who did best they could…

Great choice! At least this song will make sure Eurovision won’t turn into a ballad festival.

A crearly contestant for the victory in Kiev! So happy they have won! The problem will be the jury, I think the singer voice is a bit weak at moments, so…

It’s more refreshing than amazing. It’s definitely different and stands out but it’s not a very strong song. It’s not bad by any means but not that good either. Still there’s not many like it this year and that should be enough to earn them a spot in the final. But not a winner. I also don’t get why people say juries won’t like it. One of the main criteria for juries is originality and composition. Based on that alone it should be pretty high rated. Let’s not forget it was the juries who last year voted for Georgia and… Read more »

At last, not a boring ballad! Thank you Latvia, you’ll make people dance in Kiev! A catchy punchy entry that rhymes with party!

@Mendi
I say it’s overrated because there’s such a buzz around this song! I don’t speak about everyone, but many fans say “What a great song” and “What a great song”. There’s this general sense I receive. That’s all.

Thanks for the comment, though. Maybe I wasn’t fully understood!

This is a lot of fun — I’m really impressed by Latvia sending strong acts that really stand out from the crowd; they have become an ESC country that we now expect something cool or good from.

I still think it sounds like she says “tell me that I won’t be drunk a lot” though.

Latvia has upped their game for sure. But this is their weakest entry in 3 years.

2015 > 2016 > 2017 > rest

It is not horrible,but not pleasant neither. Borderline qualifier at best.

@D: Oh thanks.

Now about the Latvian song, I’m really not convinced… Visually they look great and edgy, but these vocals are awful (I know she’s trying to play that alt rock edgy attitude, but tbh I think she just sounds bad). And Latvia is in a pretty difficult semi… Definitely not a winner, and probably not even a finalist.

Latvia now has chosen 3 (very) good songs in 3 consecutive years, wow!

Racal – Russia announced the shortlist for their entrant: Elena Temnikova, Aleksander Panayotov, Nyusha, Darya Antonyuk, and Soprano Turetskogo. I don’t know when they’ll actually reveal who it is.

Fantastic job Latvia!

While most of the countries send ballads, Latvia opts for something different. I’m not saying that this will win, but it is going to stand out. Great bravery Latvia!

At least one vote from Australia.

Does someone know if Russia is actually going to participate at all? Haven’t heard about them at all… Must be a difficult choice for them to send an artist to a country they are at war with.

Hmz… I think only one out of 40 said it’ll win, not sure why say this is overrated. For what it is worth people think it is medicore… Which it is… Deffo out of semis and then 15-20th place in final.

For me, this song is overrated. It’s a good song, different from what we’ve heard so far. But it’s not going to win the contest! Just calm down.
I know many of you are excited and it’s fine. But it’s not THE AMAZING song everyone was looking for.

Nevertheless, they will stand out for sure in their semi!
Best possible option for Latvia!

Why are y’all saying that the juries won’t vote for this? The juries voted for Frans last year and all he did was standing and talking out of tune. Also, this song completely stands out – it’s different from the rest. An EDM anthem in a sea of forgettable ballads. Sandwich this between Poland and Slovenia in the running order and the telephone lines will go crazy.

The moment when I realized they even gave 5000 to the winner, altough they are such a small country, as an award or a motive for singers to try more, made me clap my hands with respect for Latvia. It has to be noted that the ticket for the semis was only 10 euros. People please a small clap to Latvia…they diserved it this year!

Apsveicam! I won’t mind having one club torcher at big stage. Have to say song like this (yeah, it still is) probably won’t stand well with juries but it’s still a room to improve and polish for good ground for voters…

@ Marco – clean your rusty ears sis, this song sounds nothing like Love Injected and Heartbeat. This is an EDM (electronic dance music) song, it’s not minimal R&B like the other ones.

Attention please! The real winner is…Supernova song contest 2017. They organized an amazing evening with four amazing songs and let the people decide their favorite song at 1000%, which by the way is a GREAT song. ESC keep notes , because you should study and respect Supernova more…

Satan Danelevica? :/ 🙁

I’m quite pleased with the results of the final, and I think Triana Park was a very good choice that the televoting had made. This is one of the few times that I’ve had one of my favorites win a national selection, and I’m glad that it happened again tonight. Overall, I think Latvia will qualify this year with Triana Park. Alhough I would like a little more choreography or dancing in their performance, I think they’ll be able to get a very deserving placing at Kyiv.
