Söngvakeppnin 2017 semi final 2
Söngvakeppnin 2017 semi final 2

Söngvakeppnin 2017 began in Iceland on Saturday, and we saw Aron Hannes, Arnar Jónsson and Rakel Pálsdottir and Rúnar Eff win the first three places in the final. Erna Mist, Hildur and Júli Heiðar Halldórsson and Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir all fell by the wayside. It was tough.

But now we must look to the future, and specifically Söngvakeppnin’s second semi-final, which takes place on March 4th. The Wiwi Jury has already worked its way through the twelve entries, heaping praise (and some shade) on the finalists. Svala Björgvinsdóttir is our top pick for Kyiv, but what do you think? Would you rather place your trust in Sólveig, or have you been hypnotised by Aron Brink?

You can listen to all six semi-final two entries below, and then vote for your favourites. As the songs will be sung only in Icelandic in the semi-finals (but then in English at the final), below you will find both the Icelandic and English versions for your consideration.

You can vote for as many songs as you like, but you can only vote once, so be sure to tick the boxes for each song you like before hitting the submit button. Make it count people!

Söngvakeppnin 2017 Semi-final 2

1. Aron Brink with “Hypnotised/Þú hefur dáleitt mig”

2. Daði Freyr Pétursson with “Is This Love?/Hvað með það”

3. Svala Björgvinsdóttir with “Paper/Ég veit það”

4. Páll Rósinkranz & Kristina Bærendsen with “You and I/Þú og ég”

5. Linda Hartmanns with “Obvious Love/Ástfangin”

6. Sólveig Ásgeirsdóttir with “Trust In Me/Treystu á mig”

Svala is so overrated, you can really tell which songs in national selections that will be fan favs and potentially flop at Eurovision even tho it has a hype… If Iceland are brave and clever their top 2 in this semi will be Aron and Linda

The song “Paper” is one of my most played songs at the moment. I certainly have a connection with the song. I really enjoyed the acoustic arrangement too.

Svala has very good live vocals that’s for certain. I am looking forward to a good result. She would be a worthy winner for Iceland.

I am rooting for Svala to win the Icelandic selection and go to Kiev.

Svala can work with fans but not with ordinary people.
Iceland will flop again with her.

Aron Brink all the way! It will stand out a lot in that awful semi.

I always liked Trust in Me from way back when the songs were first announced. Very upbeat, could use some reworking, but a cut above the rest of the songs in this second final.

Aron, Linda and Svala are the clear qualifiers, in my opinion. They all have very good songs. Sólveig’s song is average at best, Páll and Kristina’s is the definition of “boring” and Daði’s is (no offense) an atrocity.

At least Svala should qualify. The others can duke it out.
Watched a video of her singing an acoustic version. Quite promising.

I think it’s safe to say that Svala and Aron Brink will qualify to the finals. Anything can happen in Iceland, but I don’t see how the other four entries could compete with them. Which is why I don’t care who gets the third ticket, they’re all bad.
In the final, I can imagine a two-horse race between Rakel & Arnar and Svala, with Aron Brink as a potential surprise.

Unless they crash in their live performances, Svala and Aron are clear favorites to pass. I voted for Aron, as his song makes me so happy! But none of the songs are bad, so anyone can shine if they elevate it in live.

I think Svala should go Eurovision, “Paper” is a song that everyone would feel & understand
