Semi-final two of Söngvakeppnin 2017 airs this evening in Iceland, when six acts will do battle for the three remaining places in the final on March 11. Last week we saw Arnar Jónsson and Rakel Pálsdóttir, Aron Hannes and Rúnar Eff advance to the finals, leaving your favourite Erna Mist Pétursdóttir behind.
For the past week, our readers have been voting for their favourites from semi-final two, and now it is time to announce the results. Who are you feeling this time?
With 1,022 votes cast in total, we can now reveal that Svala Björgvinsdóttir is our readers’ overwhelming favourite, receiving 500 votes, a whopping 49% of all votes cast.
“Paper/Ég veit það” was also the Wiwi jury’s favourite entry for Söngvakeppnin 2017, scoring an average of 7.89/10. Wiwiblogger Sami hailed the entry in its entirety:
“When I think of Iceland, I think of this kind of music. “Paper” has a very strong chorus, great production and Svala really owns the song.”
In second place is newcomer Aron Brink with his song “Hypnotised/Þú hefur dáleitt mig“.
He earned a very respectable 295 votes, which is 29% of the total polled. Aron Brink split the wiwi jury and ended up with a score of 5.97/10. Although some wiwibloggers were not into the tropical flavour, William was definitely feeling it:
“Nodding to Jessy Matador, Stella Mwangi and SaRaha, this makes me go kizunguzungu. Söngvakeppnin too often feels like a dour folk festival, so it’s great to have a flash of unadulterated pop.”
Rounding out the top three is Linda Hartmanns, who received 96 votes, 9% of all those cast.
Her delicate ballad “Obvious Love/Ástfangin” impressed the wiwi jury (apart from the super abrupt ending) and earned a score of 6.31/10. Wiwiblogger Robyn was full of praise:
““Obvious Love” is the best ballad in Söngvakeppnin 2017. Linda has a versatile voice, effortlessly moving from delicate to strong. The strong has good progression, and the electronic edge saves it from sounding too traditional.”
With only three spaces remaining in the final of Söngvakeppnin 2017, this means that our readers expect to see Daði Freyr Pétursson, Páll Rósinkranz and Kristina Bærendsen, and Sólveig Ásgeirsdóttir exit the competition. Last week y’all only made one correct prediction, so now is your chance for redemption!
