Eurovision betting odds portugal serbia romania (1)

On Monday she released an instrumental snippet of her Eurovision 2017 song “In Too Deep”, shortly after revealing in an interview that she was going for the win.

And it seems that the bookies and oddsmakers believe Tijana Bogicevic, as they have slashed her odds to win the song contest for Serbia.

When we last checked in on the Eurovision odds on February 27, the Eurovision 2011 backing vocalist was the bookies’ 17th favourite with odds of 40/1 at both Betfred and Paddy Power. But following today’s reveal of her snippet she has jumped all the way to sixth position with odds of just 10/1. Talk about a change of attitude!

Speaking to Serbia’s RTS she said: “I have to tell you that the song is excellent and that that’s what makes all this easier and what gives me confidence!” Whatever she’s selling, the betmakers are buying.

Quirky outsiders: Romania and Portugal

Sunday evening gave us two new Eurovision 2017 contenders — and both of them are narrowing in on the favourites.

Italy’s Francesco Gabbani may have his adorable namaste gorilla, but Romania has a yodelling beauty in Ilinca. Singing along with Alex Florea, she won Romania’s Selectia Nationala in a landslide with her incredibly quirky track “Yodel It”.

Although Romania has dropped from sixth favourite on February 27 to seventh favourite on March 6 (owing to Serbia’s rise), their odds to win have actually narrowed.

Betfred has moved them from 16/1 to 12/1, while Paddy Power has slashed their odds from 10/1 to 7/1.

Another country shaking up the betting odds is Portugal, which selected crooner Salvador Sobral during Sunday’s Festival da Cancao.

The “Amar Pelos Dois” singer is bringing another quirky, out-of-the-box performance. His doesn’t rely on gimmicks. Instead he creates a dreamy atmosphere with a song that could have come from a Billie Holiday jazz album.

It’s quiet yet stirring and he shows off his vocal prowess without actually being showy. It’s a rare gift.

And the bookies have responded. Portugal — perennially last in the betting odds — finds itself in the strange position of being eighth favourite.

On February 27 Portugal found itself as 22nd favourite with odds of 66/1. By Monday evening Betfred and Paddy Power had narrowed Portugal to 14/1 and 16/1 respectively.

Where is Estonia in the betting odds?

Two days after Koit Toome & Laura snatched the crown in Tallinn, Estonia’s odds remain steady at 20/1. However, they’ve moved from eighth favourite to tenth owing to the rise of Serbia and Portugal.

Bookmakers don’t appear any more impressed today than they were last week by the duo’s “Verona”, which takes the drama of Shakespeare’s epic Romeo & Juliet and turns it into weaponised Eurovision duet dynamite.

Italy remains the firm favourite to win

Italy, on the other hand, continues to pick up momentum. Francesco Gabbani’s “Occidentalli’s Karma” is cool, clever and a chart hit: It’s racked up 43 million views on YouTube, five million streams on Spotify, and has hit the Number #1 spot on Italy’s domestic FIMI chart.

On February 27 the bookies had him as the favourite, with Betfred and Paddy Power putting him down at 2/1 at the time. Following the most recent selection shows they’ve dropped his odds further — to 7/4 and 6/4 respectively — suggesting growing confidence.

If sales of the Namaste Gorilla t-shirt and smartphone cover are any indicator, he’s definitely very popular among our readers who are snapping up these limited edition items like candy.

Eurovision 2017 Winner Odds March 6 (19:00 GMT)

Further down the 100/1 club is still going strong. Countries across the continent, from San Marino and Spain to Malta and Slovenia, share the long straw for winning Eurovision in Kyiv this May.

Bar San Marino and Belgium, the majority of these countries have already declared their songs for Eurovision and will need serious werk to close the gap with the leaders by May.

What do you make of the odds? Can anyone catch Italy or should we book flights for Rome 2018 now? Y’all let us know in the comments below!

Will the odds predict the similar way as 2012,2015 and 2016 or will we get surprises like 2014 (A and NL were 1st and second, but for bookies until performance between 13th and 20th)? First time, that I´d agree to bookie´s favorite Francesco. Solid performance, catchy, ironical, professional, personality, though I must admit, if somebody doesn´t like that kind of “italian voice”, he doesn´t feel comfortable. Talking about ballads, Australia will do it into top 10, as it´s a man, but it doesn´t catch me. My ballad is Lucie´s from UK, hope she´ll do much better than predicted in the… Read more »

Romania, where is M I H A I ? How can you put him on second place, and send a muffin face girl that sings like a goat, a that boy that pretends to be cool or something…your entry is not even comedy (that can be good), your entry is just embarrassing.

I only said Romania sounds more likely because they’re slightly stronger in televoting than Italy and I can’t see the juries rewarding Italy especially when they seem to screw them more than they screw Russia. I mean Romania are usually only a few places behind and they haven’t really had as stand out a song as Yodel it in quite a while (Playing with fire was maybe the last time they had a standout song which would have gotten 2nd in the current system) Romania will have a stronger chance with juries than Italy just due to Yodel It have… Read more »

Romanian song is not a joke.Haters will gonna hate because is Romania. It was about to Celebrate Diversity..Till now the only country who done that so far is Romania or i might be wrong. Its catchy and fun and thats all about Eurovision .People go there to enjoy ,not to fall asleep.

@Felix Portugal’s song is the type that is incredibly jury-friendly. Considering his second place finish in the televote and his pretty good lead with the juries, oddsmakers are probably thinking if it performs the same at Eurovision, it stands a high chance of winning. Last year was proof that you just need to have a consistently high score between both the audience and the juries, and not necessarily need an outright win in either side. For a ballad, it’s also quite different from what’s currently offered; it’s even more pulled back than Finland, and in a contest where everyone is… Read more »

It’s really painful to see people that don’t know a single thing about betting commenting and ranting in these comment sections. These are the odds to WIN Eurovision, not a top 43 prediction of how they’ll place or who will qualify to the final. Also people commenting things like: ‘WTF THESE COUNTRIES DONT EVEN ANNOUNCED THEIR SONG YET HOW ARE THEY SO HIGH UP’ You have to keep in mind that there are people that BET on Eurovision. When you give a country like Australia 100x odds when they haven’t announced their song yet, everyone would put their money on… Read more »

National pride for their own countries’ representatives and entries are the main reasons why these bookies are betting. Last year Russia was really high because they sent a popular singer and this year Italy is sending the winner of San Remo. Spain being third to last means the majority if Spaniards are unhappy with their representative..ouch

Steve: Italian guy is not making fun of Asian culture. He’s making fun of western culture, you should read the lyrics. The song is called “Westerners’ Karma”.
Mar: I don’t know how’s Serbia overrated when we didn’t even hear the song yet?
All I know that Tijana is amazing singer, maybe the best female singer this year. It can only be better with her voice.

In 2002 bookmakers flop so hard. Germany was favorite for win, and they only be on 21 of 24 countries in final. Second favorite was Spain and 3 rd favorite was Sweden. Honestly out of the 4 countries mentioned in the title Romania is the only one I can see actually winning and even then I’m sceptical. Portugal are a weak country regardless of the song and Serbia in recent years is only strong with televoting they’ve been dragged down by juries. Italy will be mauled by the jury. Italy has only really done well with jury in 2011(1st) which seemed more like a welcome back than an actual reflection of the song. They also did okay with jury placing in 2015 but even when getting a higher televoting score than desperate… Read more »

If someone, someday asks about who I was
tell them that I have lived to love you
Before you, I only had a
weary, empty existence

My darling, hear my prayers:
Return to me, love me again
I know that alone I am not able do it
but please, bit by bit, learn to love me again

if you heart doesn’t want to give in
If it is empty of passion, if it refuses to suffer again
Without waiting for what is to come,
My own heart can love for both of us.

Every time someone mentions Italy winning, some jerk has to go all like “No Italy can’t host, hosting was not good in 1991!”… –>

LOL true! If Ukraine can host the show this year (amidst tensions and civil war 2 years ago), anyone can do it! I mean remember Serbia hosting 3 shows in 2008, Ukraine hosting 2 shows in 2005 amidst the orange revolution, Latvia having problems too in 2003 etc.

Italy can host it but they need to appreciate the beauty of the contest and promote it!

I’m surprised The Netherlands hasn’t fell further—the consensus seems to be that the entry is weak, so for it to remain above Poland is pretty surprising. Even Ukraine seems to be a bit inflated at the moment, TBH. I also don’t doubt Denmark’s ability to qualify, but I don’t know about it being that high to win. France slightly under Estonia is a little surprising, and although negligent, I’d probably switch Romania and Portugal. Hungary is surprisingly low—I’d give it shorter odds than Latvia, tbh. Like I mentioned in Demy’s song announcement, I can see it slipping, and I wouldn’t… Read more »

Seriously guys, first we’ll see who wins and then if (and only IF) Italy does win, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to host because of some technical issues that happened 26 years ago. Remember that RAI is one of the biggest networks in Europe and they produce San Remo every year, and that’s very Eurovision-like (Eurovision was actually based on San Remo).

Just listened to Italy’s entry and it’s AWFUL!!!!! There’s no way in hell that crap is winning, NOT A CHANCE! Plus it looks pretty offensive actually the way he’s making fun of the Asian culture. I actually like Romania’s entry much better even though it sucks too and won’t win.

I haven’t seen anywone who told me that actually liked the song. In my family and in my school. No one! And in twitter there’s very few people defending the song. The same in facebook. There’s some people who likes, but that’s not the majority. On the other side, we’ve got 70% of european comments saying that they liked it. In Portugal “Nova Glória” was the favourite. But that’s just my experience, you can have had different ones. :p

How da hell does Australia have 5th best odds when they haven’t yet announced their representative? They must think the great Dami Im is competing again? Major news outlet seems to think it’ll be Isaiah Firebrace which should raise the odds to somewhere in the Slovenia range at 50-to-1 since he’s terrible and has no shot to even advance to the Grand Finals.
