Those Balkan nations sure do like to tease us. A few days ago, it was announced that Tijana Bogicevic would represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. Now, they’ve treated us with the first snippet of Tijana’s song, “In Too Deep” with a clip of the instrumental.

For y’all who are done with the ballads, then fear no more. This is an up-tempo pop banger if we’ve ever heard one and it sounds like Serbia are going to be bringing it in Kyiv. Given the team behind “In Too Deep”, we’re not surprised either.

The song is written by Borislav Milanov, Bo Persson, Johan Alkenas and Lisa Ann-Mari Linder. Milanov and Person already have one big Eurovision success under their belts: they co-wrote Poli Genova’s “If Love Was a Crime” in 2016. That of course gave Bulgaria fourth place last year, their best ever result. Can they go even further with Tijana?

In a recent interview with RTS, Tijana talks about the song and the team behind her:

“I have to tell you that the song is excellent and that that’s what makes all this easier and what gives me confidence! This team has an impressive biography behind them, and I am really honoured that they picked me for this song, among all the potential singers.

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful collaboration.”

In the same interview, the US-based singer explained how she was chosen for Eurovision. She was given the honour through an internal selection, conducted by the editors of RTS’s music department.

“I wasn’t expecting a call, but it didn’t suprise me either. When I heard the song, I knew I was the logical choice.”

Of course, Tijana already has some Eurovision experience. Back in 2011, she was a backing vocalist for Nina’s “Caroban” — joining the likes of Imri Ziv in stepping up to the lead role. Tijana claims she doesn’t feel the burden of being in the focus: “this is my vocation, which I know how to do, so it’s up to me and and the whole team behind me to do this job the best way we can.”

Asked if “It is important to participate” was her motto, Tijana said that the situation at Eurovision is not that black and white.

“This is music, not sports. It’s not like I have to score three goals and someone else two to know the winner. In order to win, one must hit the musical taste of the audience. Of course, we all want to win in Kyiv and that we are hoping to guess the taste of the audience that are voting!”
