Ott Lepland Maailm mu ees 2017 Estonia Eurovision 2012

He’s the Estonian dreamboat who stole our hearts in 2012 with his emotional performance of the beautiful “Kuula”. Now, Ott Lepland is turning it up a notch with his latest single “Maailm mu es”, which roughly translates as “The World In Front Of Me”.

Like his previous releases, “Maailm mu es” is sung in the lovely Estonian language. The track has an almost Travis-esque sound to it — they were big around the turn of the century… why did it always rain on them?

Ott’s voice flows river-like over a heavy guitar and piano. It makes for a delightful listening experience and we’re left begging for more.

Ott has been in the music industry since childhood, even releasing two albums before the age of ten. But the whole of Estonia saw just how much of a talent he was, after his victory on the Estonian version of Pop Idol in 2010.

Soon after that, the opportunity to represent Estonia at Eurovision knocked on his door. Luckily, Ott was more than willing to answer. He took Estonia all the way to the final, finishing a very respectable sixth.

With more than a dozen singles and an album released post-Baku, Ott is nowhere near being done.

Estonia at Eurovision 2017

Estonia selected its entry for Kyiv on Saturday night.

A thrilling Eesti Laul final saw fan favourites such as Elina Born and Kerli fall away, as Laura and Koit Toome emerged victorious. Both are pros when it comes to Eurovision, with Koit representing the Baltic state in 1998 and Laura in 2005 as part of Suntribe.

They’ll be hoping that their Shakespeare inspired duet “Verona” can take Estonia back to the final, after last year’s disappointing result — Jüri Pootsmann finished last out of all the 42 entrants in Stockholm.

Ott also has a fun project band (if I can call it) with our only Eurovision winner Tanel Padar. It is called Vallatud Vestid (Mischievous Vests) and they also have a plentitude of very nice ballad songs but also more energetic tracks.

the third guy in that band is Jalmar Vabarna, who is right now prob the most popular out of them 3 though, he creates the “It” bands that win all awards and become instant legends, like Curly Strings (which he left though) and Trad Attack.

@Charles: Hear hear.

I was curious how the wiwijury scored this when it came out and much to my shock, only Deban gave this a decent score and saw the great potential that it is.

Amazingly how people easily forget the amount of hatred they threw against this song before the competition in 2012 … for being … guess what …. yeah the forbidden Eurovision word of all time .. ballad … All the love it’s getting after that 6th place in the final does nor erase that fans HATE slow songs before the competition until they score wonderfully and then it’s all love and kisses. The Common Linnets know what I’m talking about …

My winner of 2012. He was superior to everybody else in his live performances, in my opinion. I’d trade all of this year’s ballads for three minutes of ‘Kuula’ in an instant.

It’s also shortened drastically in the betting odds. THIS COULD BE THE WINNER.

OFF TOPIC: A snippet of Blanche’s song has now GENUINELY leaked. It’s called “City Lights” and is very intriguing.

Since ESC is going to be the year of the ballads, Ott and KUULA are a reminder of how to do it right. So much emotion. Great song.
