SÖNGVAKEPPNIN 2017 final
SÖNGVAKEPPNIN 2017 final

Söngvakeppnin 2017 comes to an end on Saturday when we will find out which of the six seven finalists will get to fly the flag for Iceland in Kyiv.

Iceland’s national selection has seen plenty of drama (and some qualification surprises) along the way, but now it is time to get serious. Seven acts will sing in the final, and two will make it to the superfinal, but only one can win.

Svala Björgvinsdóttir wowed both our readers and the Wiwi jury, with Aron Brink and Aron Hannes also making a good impression. But it really is anyone’s game. Having seen all of the acts perform live, we want to know exactly who you love.

Below you can watch all seven entries’ semi-final performances, and then vote for your favourites. You can vote for as many songs as you like, but you can only vote once, so be sure to tick the boxes for each song you like before hitting the submit button. Make it count people!

Söngvakeppnin 2017 Final

Arnar Jónsson & Rakel Pálsdóttir – “Again/Til Mín”

Rúnar Eff Rúnarsson – “Make Your Way Back Home/Mér við hlið”

Aron Hannes – “Tonight/Nótt”

Daði Freyr Pétursson – “Is This Love?/Hvað með það?”

Svala Björgvinsdóttir – “Paper/Ég veit það”

Aron Brink – “Hypnotised/Þú hefur dáleitt mig”

Wildcard- Hildur – “Bammbaramm”

[polldaddy poll=9683063]

Be sure to let us know who you love (and hate) in the comments section. We’ll be closing the poll in the next few days, so get voting!

Svala CANNOT win. It’s a heavy, nauseating song (that sounds like it belongs in the 80s) with absolutely no hope of getting to the Grand Final. It’s like a cheap carbon-copy of something Sweden would do. I honestly think Daði or Aron H are the only ones with any hope of getting anywhere.

So how bad the staging goes or how her costume isnt on point it’s svala they would go for. Mark my word.

Anyone but Svala….. or Iceland will certainly flop again (even though it was an absurd last year)….

If Svala can nail Paper similar to the studio version then it will become one of my big favourites this year. It reminds me so much of Banks and is closer to my musical tastes outside of ESC.

@Pavel – I second that! Svala’s WHOLE visual performance was really weak. Her clothing was off, the movements were off, the lighting was definitely off… everything was just off. The only thing that was good was her vocals. The way she *presented* the song was like it was some kind of a disco banger. If one doesn’t speak the language, they would never get that this is a love song.

On the other hand, I was really positively surprised by the adorable and wholesome performance of Dadi Freyr Petursson, which really elevated the song and brought it to life.

Charles, if only clothing was the issue, her moves and behaviour do not fit the song altogether. Svala can’t sell the song well, this doesn’t look sincere or genuine.
And I don’t get that nonsense about the JESC you’re talking about. In order to win at the Eurovision, you must either have a very catchy song, have a very memorable gimmick/staging,or at least have some sort of personality represented by your entry. Svala has none.

@Pavel: Because Svelas’s clothes and image are the crucial elements that will clearly define if her song is or isn’t the best ONE .. right … are you watching Project Runway by any chance? … cause it’s the Eurovision SONG contest we’re talking about.

If a boring song in Eurovision is the one that states “adults” … then it’s clear … ESC fans just think this is another Junior … even if many are in their 30s and 40s … who the hell, besides Mariah Carey, thinks and acts like they can be 16 forever? Seriously?

Anything substantial and mature goes … not in the mood for Rihanna-esque-cheesy-crap nor more attempts of Justin Bieber-wannabes … Bieber himself is one hell of a wannabe already. We already have all the party songs this year and there is a drag queen unable to sing to join the party .. now let’s focus on behaving like adults and stop pretending ESC is another Junior.

Daði for the win! Hope he can perform the English version just as awkwardly as the Icelandic.

Iceland will choose svala for sure. Oh my… Another ballad. Aron brinks song is good. But the live performance was flat a bit. I expected better vocals. Dadi came out of nowhere. His song is not an earworm but he had the best charisma live. He was truly living his song.

Not Daði, and certainly not Hildur after her tantrum!
For me, any of the other 5 can win and I’ll be happy

1. Daði Freyr Pétursson – “Is This Love?” 8/10 even Olafur Arnalds have thrown his twitter support for Daði, it’s refreshing to see such minimalistic entry having a charming staging. Reminds me of Telex “Euro-vision” but may completely bomb at the ESC the way Aivaras did with “Happy You” in 2002. 2. Svala Björgvinsdóttir – “Paper” 5.5/10 that keyboard hook the chorus relies on is very 80s and it is nice, but I am not a fan of her clothing style and moves 3. Aron Hannes – “Tonight” 4/10 okay song, but very amateurish staging and presentation 4. Rúnar Eff… Read more »

Arnar & Rakel should win. Their song is stunning, I don’t understand why they are last in the poll. And even below Daði? Really? His entry is absolutely horrible. I would be happy with anyone but him.

@ninasublatti – UK is currently in my top 5. I doubt it will win next to Italy, but it’s so immensly better than Spain and Germany combined that if there is any justice, it will score much higher.

I like Svala’s song, but Aron Brink’s song is so much better!

Wow, so many votes for Svala. The performance didn’t match the song at all and it was a mess.

For me, it’s a battle between Aron Brink and Arnar & Rakel, but Aron Hannes, Da?i Freyr and Runar Eff would also be great!

Either the ever so stunning ice queen Svala, or the enchanting vixen Rakel & Nordic dream hunk Arnar (in color, please!)
Although performed in English, I’d probably opt for Svala.
Either way, I’m looking forward to the performances of these three vocalists.

I really hope Daði or Svala win, I’m getting sick of Iceland only sending ballads or basic pop songs, although, I wouldn’t be mad if Aron Hannes would win, but I’d prefer the electro pop Daði and Svala have.

Dadi’s performance was really good and wouldn’t surprise if he wins, but I guess that Svala is the hot favourite here (I expect her to fail at eurovision with that performance)
