Moldova‘s O melodie pentru Europa 2017 winners SunStroke Project are in the middle of their promo tour, but they’ve taken the time to shoot and drop the video for their Eurovision song “Hey Mamma”. In it the band stay true to the lyrics and take a literal, comical approach.
Appearing to cement their status as the sole joke act of this year’s contest, SunStroke Project play on the trope of a difficult mother-in-law and they take it to a new level of ridiculousness.
In the “Hey Mamma” video, lead vocalist Sergey Ialovitsky is his girlfriend’s guest at dinner, but there’s a problem. The girlfriend lives with her mother — who actually could pass as her sister. The latter watches Sergey’s every move and tries to c*ckblock him every step of the way, including in the bedroom!
The final blow comes towards the end of the video, when he attempts to kiss his bride at the altar, only to realise that he’s actually marrying her mother. Ew! But alas, the last frames of the video show Sergey waking up from this nightmare and smiling to his girlfriend. Phew!
The video also features some delicious Moldovan cuisine, sexy cooking, and of course Sergey’s bandmates, Epic Sax Guy and Epic Violin Player.
What do you think about the “Hey Mamma” video? And what about Moldova’s chances to return to the Grand Final from the First Semi-final? Let us know in comments!

Who is the girl with the black hair ? What’s her name ?
In case somebody has doubts, ENTERTAINMENT is a good thing.
SunStroke Project mean no offence.
This is entertainment. Period.
They are not sarcastic against Eurovision.
Everything from the song to the video is cheap. Fortunately, both are still enjoyable and the boys are joyously infectious! Moldova picked wisely this year! ^^
@Bogdan – I don’t think you know what a “joke act” is! A joke act implies that a song was put forward without musical quality and only for entertainment purposes. Musically, this was the best song that Moldova had to offer with a decent vocalist, a violinist and of course, an epic sax guy!
There’s humour involved but definitely not a joke act!
Funny catchy song. Like it! Cause why not. In the sea of ballad this song stands out.
Sorry, for me it’s so cheap
NSFW alert! Hilarious!
Clue : If you read a comment that says very bad things about Romanian song, and in the same time, very good things about Moldovian song, that person is Romanian, because Romanians will never say something bad about Moldova, but they might dislike their song as hell.
Come on, Moldova is right, they make good comedy, they are not laughing at us.
They only want to entertain. Maybe this is the right word, its entertainment.
YES!
One of the best tracks in semi 1 and on my list of defenite qualifiers together with Belgium, Australia, Portugal and Latvia!
And I agree that the real joke in this Eurovision is Romania
The following is my opinion. It’s not right or wrong, and can be debated: The problem is that the stage version of this song doesn’t actually give us the joke very obviously (yet). It’s house music by definition, which by itself is not a joke. The story behind the song might be funny, but unless the whole mother-in-law comedy is acted out on the stage, then the comedy entirely relies on the “Epic Sax Guy” thrusting about, which i’m sorry to say is neither new nor novelty. It’s actually “normal” to have an instrument like a saxophone play in house… Read more »
The difference between a Joke Act and a Fun Act (imo) is the intention of the artist. When Ireland sent “Irelande Douze Pointe” they knew they were sending a bad song on purpose because they were mad about their results. Therefore they were in on the joke and were not competing seriously, although the song did entertain some people and make us laugh. This song, however, is a serious entry. It’s very good, even though it’s also funny and has a tongue-in-cheek premise. People who listen to this will laugh WITH the artist, but not AT the artist. I put… Read more »

For you that think Moldova might be funny…joke…, what is important is that its not making fun of us, the viewers.
I really like Moldova, hope it wins, and after that, I hope will say that it denies the hosting. Let’s see what’s next. Jon Ola Sand, fix that ! ! !
@Julian your analogy of the bird & dog made me laugh. You got it! I prefer songbirds instead
On a related note, yodeling per se is not bad if integrated well in a song. Gwen Stefani did this to great effect (ala Wind it Up). But the execution of it in the Romanian song is ghastly for me
@Lady Gagarina Note,im not romanian but i dont like when they are getting nasty attacks either and i will do that for any country .Yes i noticed they are getting heated btw them over their choice ,but thats theirs problem. All i said is that you give romanian song as a example on any topic, thats all i said .Anyway i apologies to you if i offended you ,its not my thing to argue with anyone on here its rude and insensitive.Have a fun day.
@adriana read what your comrades are also commenting. It goes both ways darlin’
There are funny joke acts (singers want to make you laugh, like the Moldavian entry) and annoying joke acts (when singers are trolling, make laugh of you, or a group, country, organization, etc).
Romanian song is neither, is just a happy, funny song. I picture it as a bird yodelling at our/my window and the dog that raps around the bird. I like it, is refreshing and in the comfort zone for me, but I also understand that some people prefer to chase both the bird and the dog with furious anger for making all that noise.
I gathered not many are used with Yodelling combined with rap music, its unusual ,me neither i took me 3 times to start liking the song ,im not saiyng is the best ,no ,but is not that bad either.I like Itally,France,Uk,Sweden,Israel,Moldova so many good songs there. But we all have diferent taste and diferent opinions.I prefer to be decent in my coments if i dont like or love a song that much.
Still one of my favourites. If this was sent by Sweden everyone would be hysterical…
I agree with Just Me.
– Euro Neuro wanted to protest against Eurovision, is JOKE ACT.
– SunStroke Project want to make positive comedy and they want us to laugh with them, they don’t laugh at us. This is FUNNY ACT.
– Romania 2017 is a song that takes itself seriously and thinks its cute, but its not.
This is exactly what I was expecting from Sunstroke and Moldova, they are not trying to be something else and I’m glad they are comitted. Good luck Moldova please qualify!
@Just Me and Romania 2012 is Mandinga right? I loved that group. Very tropical & fun. So you see, I can love Romanian songs (I love Inna), but this year that song is just a load of crap
@ Bogdan Honciuc I got your point, didn’t see lyrics of this song I must admit.. Of course, what is Eurovision without comedy 😀 it is general hard to deal with comedy and make people laugh, especially at event like this, ’cause something one may find funny, and others find offensive.. it is so hard to be comedian artist actually!
Btw, Rambo Amadeus is the best troll in Eurovision history, that’s for sure 😀
@Just Me joke act, cheap song…it doesn’t matter. It’s still a bad & irritating song. And I couldn’t care less about Russia 2016: my faves were Armenia, Italy, France, Bulgaria etc that time. I don’t have my allegiance to any country, only to songs
@Lady Gagarina Euro Neuro and We are the winners are joke acts, not the Romanian song from this year. The Romanian song is just a cheap song like the Russian one from 2016, but with not so cheesy lyrics, end of story
Thanks to this cheap song or thanks to this joke act Romania is in top 10 Eurovision 2017 odds. Romania was in top 10 only in 2012.
Let’s see what is going to happen in May.
Guys, I stand by my opinion: this is a joke act. Come on: they have a song about a cockblocking mother-in-law and a video that reasserts the comedy of this situation. Plus we have the ever so funny Epic Sax Guy thrusting his hips at any opportunity. If this isn’t a joke act — that is, an act/song supposed to make you laugh — I don’t know what is. The problem is when you find the idea of “joke act” demeaning. I don’t. The Eurovision contest needs a bit of everything, and comedy is NEVER a bad thing. #celebratediversity and… Read more »
– funny act = unassuming, funny with positive purpose (SunStroke Project)
– joke act = trolling, with the purpose to make fun of others, or to protest against bad results in previous years
I’m not native English speaker, would like if someone can explain if there is difference between ”funny act” and ”joke act”?.. However, I have a feeling that using term ”joke act” wasn’t fully appropriate here. Agree with Adriana that such term should be used carefully. If artist himself want to make joke, like Montenegro 2012 or France 2008, it is ok to say ”joke act”.. But, if artist don’t have such intentions, I find it little derrogatorry term.. (my opinion only :))
Dating an Eastern European man is just like in this video. They are funny, perfect gentlemens, but they expect you (as woman) to cook, and its great, but be sure you talk and agree about that from the beginning.
@go for it Opinions should be decent even if they are negative without being nasty or rude towards singers or countries .That means, we can all be a c…s just because we dont like someting.
@ adriana and Romanian song is really bad this year. They should get back Ovidiu 🙁
@adriana This is the place to discuss the songs, we are free to make positive or negative comments on each song, she’s not doing anything bad, that’s just her opinion and you need to respect it. If you don’t like it, just do not read.
@adriana but you just did honey, by replying lol
@Lady Gagarina_seriously im not wasting my time with you.
@adriana if it’s too hot in the kitchen, get tf out
None of the acts are jokes…You should all respect each country participant.I find it very rude to call a singer or a country joke ,just because they want to be a bit diferent than others.
Don’t call them a joke act. They are a fun party dance act. The joke act is Montenegro.
….. I would ask moderators to shout this user called @Lady Gagarina mouth ,because in every topic i go to read someting this user always attacks romanian song everytime she/he gets the chance….It gets really boring at some point and annoyng. Are you that obsessesd with that song or you have some serious menthal disorder?
A joke act?? Do you even know what does that mean? I’ll give you some examples: Montenegro 2012, Estonia 2008, Spain 2008, Czech Republic 2009 etc. This one is just fun.
Speaking of joke acts, that San Marino song is another joke act ????
If this is a joke act, the yodeling song is the biggest joke of them all. That yodeling song is a joke act masquerading as a serious entry lolz. I love Sun Stroke project: they are fun, don’t take themselves seriously & are sonically current. I rarely love Moldavian entries, but song is now on repeat 😀
Sunstroke Project are geniuses! Moldova has the most entertaining song of the year! Congrats!
I’d not say this is a “joke act”. This is just fun. 🙂
