eurodrama

It’s been almost a month since Spain’s Objetivo Eurovisión. By now you’d expect the Eurodrama surrounding Manel Navarro’s victory to have settled. Alas, from the presumed peace and quiet comes yet another ruckus.

On Monday the Spanish representative at Eurovision 2017 gave an interview to the EFE news agency. In it he unequivocally denies having any form of relationship with the daughter of Toñi Prieto —RTVE’s Entertainment Director. “I have seen her twice in my life,” he says.

Prieto’s daughter works at Manel’s label Sony and conspiracy theorists have suggested that this may have played a part in Manel’s controversial victory at Objetivo Eurovision. But the artist has denied that she has (or indeed had) anything to do with his entry.

In the same interview, Toñi Prieto’s daughter — whose actual name has not come to light — claims that those accusations have been blown way out of proportion.

Manel is staying strong and has his eyes on Kyiv. “I didn’t win the way one would have wanted, but I never thought of withdrawing.”

Manel on Leklein’s claims: “90% of that interview is false”

In the interview, Manel also had a word for his competitor LeKlein, saying that an interview she recently gave to ABC.es was filled with lies and mistruths.

Several weeks ago the Eurocasting winner accused RTVE of rigging the jury vote to make Manel win. She claimed that she and Mirela were given “a limit of points” so that even if they won the televoting, Manel would still win overall.

During the interview, the “Ouch!” singer also alleged that Toñi met the jury during the voting period, and that she gave them instructions on how to vote, so that neither her nor Mirela had any chance.

The singer, who earned her place in Objetivo Eurovisión through the online wildcard segment, argues that there were interests in Manel’s victory: “He’s with Sony, where Toñi Prieto’s daughter works.”

Manel isn’t buying any of it. He said that “90% of that interview is false,” adding that “if TVE had wanted to pick an artist, there wouldn’t have been a selection show.”

LeKlein – “Ouch!” – live at Objetivo Eurovisión 2017

As for LeKlein, her fury over the Objetivo Eurovisión results hasn’t eased: “I’m outraged, and even more because people are accusing us of inventing this because we want free promotion.”

LeKlein actually wanted the selection to be redone. “Even [former Spanish Head of Delegation] Federico Llano resigned ‘for personal reasons'”, she said, suggesting something “really crooked.”

“Things weren’t done right,” she said.

What do you think of these interviews? Do you believe Manel? Or are you with LeKlein on this? Tell us in the comment section below!

I never liked this song in the first place: it’s monotonous, generic, he has no voice and what’s worse, no charisma whatsoever. Anyway, I understand and respect that other people like a song I dislike (just as it happens to me all the time, that my friends hate my favourites) 😛 That being said, if he had won fairly, I would be kinda happy with this “meh” song just for the sake of supporting my country, but it was not. I know this seems like a stupid little thing and a never-ending Spanish eurodrama, but the selection was ludicrous, and… Read more »

This soap opera just becomes more and more and more annoying with every headline and Eurofans need to stop being so goddamn petty. I know that about 95% of all us feel that the selection was rigged, even myself included, but instead of hating Manel we should continue to HATE RTVE FOR THIS! instead. Hating the song or not, being this petty is just annoying. We got Federico’s head, now we all need Toñi’s because the lady has got to go. Seriously. In the end, most of us are forgetting the fact that about 95% who will watch the show… Read more »

She is a liar! She uploaded photos with him, she said he was a great guy and they are friends, they went to a lot of parties together and now she talks bad about him, incoherent.

Many fans threaten him every day, they tell lies, Manel is having a really bad time!!! EUROPE DOESN’T SUPPORT BULLYING! HE WON LEGALLY! The Swedish final was the same, Robin won being the third of the televote, this is ridiculous.

When is justice going to say something about Ogae’s complaint?
I think Manel should withdraw. This all is damaging his career. Even having a fresh and catchy summer song, most people are not supporting him.
Brequette or Leklein should go instead. They are still in time to change, but I guess nothing will be done.

LeKlein has evidence to support her argument, Manel has nothing. He just said “Nah, nah, you are lying, blah blah blah…” like a 7 year old.

Manuel is going to bomb at ESC because of all of this drama. If it was rigged, it was for nothing.

I’m old enough to know very well latino music that became internationally famous in 1997 because of Ricky Martin and after that it was a huge wave with Enrique Iglesias and Shakira. The world became crazy, each country had it’s own 121,764,920,618 latino groups, I remember one from Denmark ‘Los Umbrellos’ (this word doesn’t even exists), everybody was singing latino those days. And then…there was Mirela. No Mirela, just NO! This is why I keep thinking that selection in Spain was not fake, because I would have done the same thing, no Mirela, not that music again, AGAIN??????? Good luck… Read more »

The deadline is completely WRONG. He does not say that Toñi’s daughter is not working with him. He says that he only saw her a couple of times and that is not her product manager. She was doing her socialmedia, anyway.

We can be happy, we have in monotone Eurovision guy with guitar and cool summer song. Its so freshy! Can you imagine the girl with Contigo? Next trashy dance pop? Maika would be great choice too, we have only one rock song. We, Eurovision fans, love Spanish jury!

This is the case of so called ‘circumstancial evidence’. Can I claim anything as a certainly? Of course not. But after watching Objectivo Eurovision in live, I am inclined to believe something is dodgy about it.

Let’s hope TVE is serious about reviving Operación Triunfo so that we can avoid another mess like this one next year…

Kinda sad to see how divided Spain is right now with their Eurovision selection.

Yup!! I saw that as soon as the jury results were in!! LeKlein’s claims were my obvious conclusion. Considering it was well known that either Mirela/LeKlein would win televote and both getting exactly enough points to force a tie with Manel which would suspiciously now be broken by the jury!! Hate corruption. People who don’t see this Open your eyes.

To LeKlein: Rediculous. Where is your evidence?
To Manel: For the sake of your career, please get out of Eurovision while you still can.
