favourite eurovision 2017 act march 14th francesco gabbani

Namaste — ale! On March 7th, we asked our readers who their favourite Eurovision 2017 act was. The results are in — and boy are there a lot of you who wanted to have your say. A grand total of 27,020 votes were cast, with Italy’s Francesco Gabbani coming out on top with “Occidentali’s Karma”!

Francesco received 3,073 votes to top our poll, around 11% of the vote. That percentage might not sound much, but remember — there were 27 acts in total in our poll!

Francesco also remains the bookmakers favourite to win Eurovision 2017 and it’s all looking in line for the first Italian victory since 1990.

There’s no word yet as to when we might hear the revamped version of Gabbani’s song, though. As it stands, “Occidetanli’s Karma” is too long for Eurovision and needs some serious cuts to comply.

Will we maybe see him debut the changes at either London or Amsterdam?

Second place in this week’s poll goes to Romania’s duo of Ilinca feat. Alex Florea. We always know how passionate Romanian fans are and how they can get behind their act, no matter what. It seems even more so when the song has yodelling, too!

They received 2,958 votes, even having led the poll for some of the week. There’s no denying the song is fun and catchy — will all of Europe be yodelling along in May?

Once again in third place is France’s Alma. Remaining in the top three for yet another week, Alma polled 2,264 votes with our readers, just under 8.5% of the total.

Of course, “Requiem”‘s revised version only came out with just a few hours of our poll still to go, so we’d expect most of these votes to come from the original. Will she be able to maintain this great form with the bi-lingual version?

Fourth, fifth and sixth places all go to new entrants on our poll. Portugal’s Salvador Sobral received 2,067 votes with his touching song, “Amar pelos dois”. There’s then a big jump back to Greece’s Demy and Estonia’s Koit Toome & Laura, who took roughly 5% and 4.5% of the vote respectively.

And although she got close, unfortunately it was last place yet again for Germany’s Levina. She finished with 285 votes, a big jump on her total the previous week. Malta’s Claudia Faniello is within touching distance just one spot above, as she took 292 votes.

i’m so addicted to Yodel It and Occidentali’s Karma, 2 really nice fun songs

Romania is so underrated, Portugal for me is a bit overrated 5th place at bookies

eurovision is supposed to be about showing diversity, originality and making people happy, well i don’t get happy from dreary boring ballads 🙂

@Trocatoc
Yes you haven’t get the meaning at all!!!
Wiwiblog had an article about the song http://wiwibloggs.com/2017/02/15/occidentalis-karma-lyrics/174193/
If you already read it, then shame on you! You still are talking about a joke, when in fact its meaning is deep, critical and philosophical! A masterpiece!!

The first 4 countries in the chart have romance languages. Romania, Italy, France and Portugal. This is what it should be. Every single year we attend to watch Nordic countries going upper in the chart without blinking an aye.
Anyway Italy should win this edition without a doubt. What are we talking about?
And plus, I hope that our brothers France, Romania and Portugal will be behind us in top 10.

What I don’t like about Romanians is that they are offended if they are called gypsies. Are you aware that this is racism? People may mistake your race, but if you are so offended by the mistake, this is the ultimate racism.

@adriana girl, loosen up a little. It’s actually fun. And the Romanians are the ones who are easily ticked off, which is amusing. Goes to show what type of self-esteem they have. The other countries don’t get that much ballistic when someone criticizes their song. Let them be: let them continue to make fools of themselves & create a mockery of their country

From now on im not gonna defend anyone ,but im not gonna stand and read the horoble coments some of you make towards contenstants ..It is totally rude and ofensive to call someone horoble…Some countries have good financial resources ,some dont. Some have good singers some dont .But that doesnt give the right to treat someone like garbage just because you dont like someting.Any constructive crtitics are good..Show me one constructive critic here and im not gonna say anything .But most of the coments are vulgare because only like that some of you can get their way.Respect is not a hard… Read more »

I like how adriana pretends that she’s not romanian and she’s everywhere related to Romania and gets easily offended by anything against of Romania’s this year’s entry. If you’d be a non-romanian you’d not take personal all those negative comments to that song, but you do. All the people here has their favourite entries, but nobody walks around like “if you don’t like my favourite song then you have something against its country”.

As an act of charity, let those fans of the horrid yodeling song win the polls. I guess that helps in their self esteem. Toodles for now.
Back to the actual songs, good luck to Sweden, Australia, Bulgaria, Italy, France, UK, Czech Rep, FYRM, Israel…gosh there’s too many, I still haven’t found a real fave. But it’s pretty clear by now who my last place is 😛

Honey, are you frustrated? You can say all you want about the Romanian song, then everybody can answer your comment with his opinion, right? And sorry, if it is an opinion about the song is absolutely ok, but when people are starting to talk about gypsies… yeah, sorry that we’re not accepting a false statement about us, not to talk that it is made on a negative way, please forgive us!

@Adriana: I’m sorry but how do you explain that the comment section always turns into a ridiculous drama about the Romanian song? Now if some people are attacking Romania (the country) and its citizens, they are obviously idiots and the smart thing to do is to ignore them. But you should also all learn to accept that not everyone like the Romanian song (just like for all other countries) and they are entirely entitled to criticize it. Seriously, for every bad comment about Yodel It!, there are 4-5 Romanian guys commenting “Ahahahah, you’ll see! We’re the best, hahaha! Bucharest 2018,… Read more »

90% of the votes for Romania were from Romanian fans. I was there when Romanian votes rose up in a few minutes just when romanian people started to appear in comments section and many people saw that. Also no way Yodel It! has so many fans, I’d even say it’s one of the most hated act of this year’s contest, sorry.

@Chris Halpin I know you dislike Romania’s song, but is not fair to say that only Romanians voted for their own country. People from France did not did that? Or from Italy or other top placed country? Think more and write less.

Two things surprise me about the poll result.
1. The actual percentage differences are very close. (This might be the closest since 2010/11?)
2. Portugal is getting a lot more votes than I expected. Is there a demand for that sort of music to come back? I wonder.

The fact that the only thing commented on Romania’s 2nd place is that the Romanian fans are very passionated is a little unfair. There is a difference of 700 votes between it and 3rd place, I don’t think that there were so many Romanians to put it that high, it wouldn’t be enough. Anyway, years after years it was demonstrated that polls don’t mean too much for the actual contest. Like youtube tops, which are usually even more unrealistic, cause there is just a category of fans that are actually predicting or saying their preferences. I think Belgium will be… Read more »

I am another person who just doesn’t ‘get’ the Italian entry. I feel like if other countries had entered , it would come off as more of a joke act. I’ve listened to it so many times now and it’s not growing on me and I wish it would because I feel this contest is missing a really stand out act. I think peoples favs and betting odds will shift about a bit when it gets to rehearsal stage.

I’m still not convinced by Italy even if Italy manage to win televote they’re going to need to be in top 3 with jury and with the amount of ballads I really can’t see that happening. I think Belgium is the likely option to win since it seems to be picking up a similar amount of traction and the song seems a lot smoother than Italy’s and Blanche seems to have a much easier voice to listen to. I think there is a few others in contention despite not being as hyped as much which are Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Greece and… Read more »
