artsvik armenia fly with me eurovision 2017

On March 18 she’ll become the final Eurovision 2017 act to reveal her song. And on Thursday Armenia’s Artsvik whet our appetites by releasing a 25-second snippet of her number “Fly With Me”.

The clip features some very dreamy verses that include piano and Artsvik’s delightful vocals, which have a jazzy feel in this serene and pure opening. But given that the clip ends with an electro flourish and the sound of a door closing, we suspect the song will go in a totally different direction as it progresses. That would surely fit with composer Lilith Navasardyan’s past work, including “LoveWave”, which featured sudden and daring shifts in mood.

Artsvik — whose name means “Eagle” in Armenian — seems poised to take flight in the betting odds with the release of her song and video. She’s already sitting in seventh position at the time of writing this article and her song hasn’t even been released.

In the clip she looks stunning, wearing what appears to be an oversized hair plait with a giant hole in the middle. And in that hole we see a series of strong figures who look ready to do battle as they pose among platforms billowing with smoke. Serving ancient warrior, futuristic space explorer and super hero all at once, they suggest something very dramatic is on the horizon. (Or maybe it’s just the Depi Evratesil judges during a coffee break).

Whilst AMPTV received over 300 submissions from around the world, they’ve gone with a safe pair of hands in the end. Its composers Lilith and Levon Navasardyan were behind both Aram MP3’s “Not Alone” and Iveta Mukuchyan’s “LoveWave“.

AMPTV say the song will feature “folk and traditional rhythms and elements not only from Armenia, but also from Europe, Africa and even Asia”. The song seems to speak to this year’s slogan of “Celebrate Diversity” — and sounds like it’s going to go a little Genealogy on us too with its strong sense of international flair.

Speaking about “Fly With Me”, Artsvik says:

“My song tells a story of a girl, who is the metaphorical symbol of love. She embodies the colors, the stories and the voices that make us who we are. ‘Fly with me’ encourages everyone to come with me on this girl’s journey of championing the diverse and beautiful human nature. I think nowadays it is especially important to embrace our heritage and our traditions.

We, the people – our colors, our stories and our voices make up this world. We must never forget that this girl’s light and love is one for all of us.”

Are you excited for the reveal? Are you pleased that AMPTV have updated Artsvik’s look and sound for 2017? Do you think that she has a shot of winning? Let us know in the comments box below.

What I really like about Armenia is that they always take it seriously and do something unique in the contest. Hope they won’t disappoint me this time again. Wish you the best, greetings from Turkey (:

@rigged: Haha! Correction: YOU had hit on Anton directly, whereas I had only secretly desired him (until you pointed out that it wasn’t a secret). 😀
I’m really sad Anton didn’t win Melfest. I think i’ll write a song for him, so he can win Melfest in the future. 🙂

Another thing which is hugely unacceptable about this situation is that Armenia have released a preview teaser for the video, ahead of its late release on Saturday. Does that mean the video is indeed finished or just partly edited and it would take another 48 hours to finish? Unlikely and more a case of milking this late release for maximum hype and attention which is simply not acceptable. Same goes for any other country, the UK being a prime example. In 2007 having a whole extra week past the deadline, for no valid reason, to stage an NF which resulted… Read more »

Can Armenia win? Of course – any participating country can. What frustrates me about this marketing ploy from them is that while I have been musically analysing all the othe songs, this one cannot get the same treatment until next week. 🙁
So far I love the weird hat; that’s about it. 😀

P.S. Colin + Edward… sounds like a dream date to me. I’d leave my mask at home. 🙂

@Guðrún Karlsdóttir partly agree, specially on Romania. Like they go ballistic everytime they hear a criticism of that horrid yodeling song. They think that by trolling, they will change other people’s minds, but the effect is the reverse. It’s quite amusing to read their comments actually, how they make a fool of themselves

@Colin Am I supposed to choose an option?? *insert deep in thought emoji* I’ll go with option D. 😛 But seriously your name is Colin Edward :o……he was a motoracer I used to follow!! I had a Quizup friend originally from Iran but had to leave the country because he couldn’t be himself there. @Pointlesslyfeudingreaders Last year I loved the Azeri entries studio version and hated the Armenian entry!! Now I must be a Turk/Azeri?? Is it?? Come the live performances ……and I abhor Azeri performance but absolutely love Armenian staging and performance.I am suddenly an Armenian now!!D’oh!! 😮 Musical… Read more »

I have seen too much comments about the Arcakh flag that Iveta had been raised! Wanna say to all these azeris who are writing this comments! ” what did you expect? After all attacks that you are doing against Armenia and Armenians just because you think that Arcakh was azeri land but it never was and never will be, i hope Arcvik also will give some kind of message to the world about Armenian lands, Armenian Genocide, and just stop to spread hatred” Armenians want PEACE! @Kris – My connection with Edward is: A) He IS me, that is my YT account. B) He is a close friend of mine. C) He is someone I know from around, but we mostly agree on Eurovision. D) He is a stranger and similar taste is a coincidence. And about gay rights in Iran… just google it and go to Wikipedia. Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and one or two more countries are the only ones to keep the death penalty to gays. However, in Iran, it has to be a ‘repeated’ offence for one to get executed. Public lashings… Read more »

@ Hasmik – You know, I don’t like people like you. As Guorun said these type of comments doesn’t let people to write their opinions, you come up being called hater, troll and so other things. Stop calling people “turk/azeri” just because you don’t like their opinions or what they write. That’s racism at its worst. I saw 2 azeri comments in this section and those were peaceful, you should take example from your neighbours imho.

As a Turkish citizen i can say that this song sounds good. Last year i liked your song as well. But the only thing i don’t like is that kind of comments. Do you remember there was a postcard in last years i don’t remember which year but was so touching and meaningful. An Armenian guy was sending a plane of paper to a Turkish guy. And it was written something like that ‘ we are friends’ or ‘ we are one’ Now i am asking you can’t be friends really?

@ Aaron – you’re trying to compare Azerbaijan and Russia to Armenia? Azerbaijan is oil rich and the 2012 contest’s budget is the highest ever, and Russia’s government has a lot of money to waste too. And of course they did not see Ukraine’s victory coming last year, look at how hard they tried to make Australia win.

I realy hope that one day turks will learn to leave Armenia alone. Stop bringing Armenians down just to look better… do good if you want to be accepted by people. Stop blaming the world or Armenians because of your mistakes. Learn to live peaceful with everyone after all!!
We have had anough of turkish attacks everywhere! Out homes! Our traditions! Our believes . Even our language!!
Go do something better!
Write better songs!
For once in your life do it without using Armenian card!

Armenia had to pay a fine for the flag and was told to not do it again. They will not ban a country over a flag, unless it happened multiple times after the EBU told no. And guys the deadline is the last day for the broadcasters to present the songs to the EBU and not the last day to release them. Armenia already presented their song to the EBU. A broadcaster is not obligated to present the song before the deadline. The only reason why Artsvik hasn’t released the song is because the’re trying to build hype. Which can… Read more »

Dear Ron, your joyful and pleasant stay in Armenia does not compensate the tragic and brutal incident i had been through. When you say ‘it sounds fictional’, it does not make that incident unhappen.(Tragic part is it sounds fictional to you but it is a fact.)It did happen and left me with incural scars and psychological diseases-PTSD(which i don’t want to speak about but your offensive behaviour obliged me to do.) My comment was a very personal one and you mentioned it with your cruel and offensive words. You have no right to do it. I found your comment brutal… Read more »

Ron, you should stop being so defensive and treating this like a court of law. I already said it’s getting tiresome trying to keep up with the countries who unveiled their songs after the deadline every year. Armenia are using a false deadline because they can’t keep to the real one, so I do not care to check if they made the deadline in time two years ago if they can’t get their act together this time, just as nobody cares about your overreaction.

@Ron, the problem is that you guys do not let us open our mouth and say something, you immediately get called either “troll” or “hater”, people are expressing their opinions here (positively or negatively). A person just wrote that he wasn’t happy with his visit to Armenia and already a few people called him a troll for that. I HATE nationalism, it’s 21st century, for God’s sake! Let’s respect each other’s opinions, you can’t attack someone just because he/she said something negative about your country. No need to be that protective like “this is my country, don’t say anything bad”.

NONE.

We should respect all countries, their peoples and their cultures. That’s what eurovision is all about.

So many trolls here ….
Eurovision is a song contest and not a contest of human rights protection.
Anyways I’m pretty sure that hummanistic rights in Armenia are protected not worse than in previous winning countries like Russia, Ukraine and I don’t talk about azerbaijan yet.
Also Armenia is a country sending ownmade songs (unlike many others) and delivered couple of hits like qele qele, Not alone and Lovewave …. Better Talk about music and don’t trol

Homophobia to the point as hell, and on the contrary of you wrote in your post, it was in a physical way. Policemen and health care providers favoured the violents and it was alright for them, they were so normalized it. But we went to CEDH for this vandalism and inhumanity…etc…etc

Slightly off topic – The situation for gays in Armenia, Azerbaijan or Russia compared with Iran is not even in the same league, at least not legal-wise. While in Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan gays don’t enjoy equal rights, they are at least legal. In Iran, gay sex is punishable by lashes, jail or death. On topic – The song sounds nice by the first sound, but it could go either way. It seams like a ballad, and this year it takes a lot to stand out in that department. What will likely happen, though, is Armenia, Russia and Australia qualifying… Read more »

Logan/Ron with the same posts, tbh it’s not easy to remember off hand which countries are the culprits in which year for late reveals because it happens almost every year and there’s no excuse for it, especially when the song has already been revealed, so I’m not bothered about ‘false information’ whenever any country adopts their own false deadline.

All of Armenia’s songs were released before the required deadline and even Artsvik’s song was submitted to EBU on its due date.
