Rui Andrade Fight Song Rachel Platten cover version 2017

He’s the Festival da Canção regular who randomly provided backing vocals for Russia’s Tolmachevy sisters at Eurovision 2014. Now, after a brief flirtation with The X-Factor, Portugal’s Rui Andrade is launching his own YouTube channel.

To coincide with the launch, Rui released a cover of Rachel Platten’s 2015 hit “Fight Song” back in January.

“Fight Song” is one of Rui’s favourite songs, so it was a no-brainer for him cover it. Andrade identifies strongly with the track due to its parallels with his own fight to find his place in the music world. From his days of studying music to what has now become his career, music has always been an important part of his growth.

Not content to merely sing, the Iberian hunk also commissioned a music video to go with his version of the empowerment anthem. The Renato Arroyo directed clip takes place in a theatre, which is rather befitting for Rui’s musical theatre interpretation of the pop hit.

As the song builds pace, Rui takes us jogging on open roads, on a car ride, to rehearsals, to the bedroom and even into the shower — where better to show off his bulging biceps? Just as things start to sizzle, the camera pans out and shows a more jovial side to Rui as he relaxes with friends around a fire.

Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Rui tells us more about the creative process:

I chose “Fight Song” because I love how the song resembles of my professional life. The video tries to mirror my career from castings to the big stage. Regarding the idea of the cover songs vs original material. This was an opportunity to showcase a new Rui. I have an updated look now and that filters into the music styles that I am drawn to. However, the the next step is original songs. I am working on it.

We can’t wait to see what else Rui has in store. Only last week he released yet another cover, this time a mash-up of Clean Bandit’s recent smash “Rockabye” and Ace Of Base’s ’90s classic “All That She Wants”.

@ A71
Agree with you about stereotypes and about Laura.
About the song Lost in Verona, I like it and I don’t know why.
If I knew the lyrics first, this is the music I would have imagined. It’s something right about this song.

@ PP – I have not liked his former PT songs I must admit. I found them ordinary OTT ballads. But each to his / her own. I personally like A luta di allegria – it had a certain. 2012 was a boring and pretensious esc song though

unlike other people, I think this cover is good. The song sound fresh. I cannot remember The original though.

@Piro – I agree with you. Why this sexualization? Moreover – it comes across as another example of sllly gay stereotypes, which we sometimes see when it comes to certain ESC-fans sites. Very onedimensional.

I for my part find Laura from Estonia very sexy. Even if the song is bad. But I would not refer to her as “babe” or “sex symbol”

The singers are singers – not Paradise hotel participants. Thankfully 😀

Hunk = Stud = Sexual objectification = The act of treating a person as an instrument of sexual pleasure.
This isn’t politically correct.

Rachel Platten is very good looking. I’m one of many (yes, we are not that few) straight male fans, so I don’t care about so called “hunks”. (I don’t mind if people are gay though)

I grew up with 90s music. “All That She Wants” is a great song I think. This cover version sounds a bit uninspired to me.

@Hmm lol…”just a bottom who doesn’t want to bulk up so that he doesn’t look like a top”
The best most hilarious and genius definition of Rui Andrade. Loved it! It takes a qween to know another! Wink!

Can anyone tell him – after you have all finished watching and drooling on his hunky body and God knows what else – that his voice does not fit into this kind of pop music. Apparently he’s so stubborn that he keeps doing the wrong artistic things that do not fit his VOICE and his X Factor casting, which was hilariously humiliating by the way, didn’t teach him anything. So unless he wants a second career as a model based on his look and his “typical 21st century focus on me internet world” ..he should just do musicals cause that’s… Read more »

Oh I just saw his Instagram, yeah he’s not that hot…not enough muscle buildup, I guess the picture featured here was too close-up. He is on the “swimmer” side, which is kind of like code for either too lazy to lift real iron, a vegetarian, or just a bottom who doesn’t want to bulk up so that he doesn’t look like a top. Haha, either way not that hot, and his hairline is too retreated. So yeah, if he’s gonna excite us LGBT with his looks, he pretty much has to either be picture perfect or rich-older, so that we… Read more »

‘Moonlight’ is all about spamming, seeking attention and embracing himself. It’s like the pot calling the kettle black, MARIO with a capital M as in ‘mundane’, ‘monotonous’, ‘mind-numbing’.

This instagram post that he dedicated to himself for his birthday and his perfection is the most embarassing thing I have seen today. And also the least relevant in the context of Eurovision.

@PP

“Luta é Alegria” didn’t win because of the song, but instead of the big old “F*ck you Germany”

”Cause he’s still got a lot of fight left in him”

Deban has the best sense of humour.
