The eighth series of Swedish music show Så mycket bättre (So much better) will kick off this autumn and it already has a very big name lined up. Melodifestivalen winner and Eurovision 2011 bronze medalist Eric Saade is one of the first artists confirmed for the upcoming series.

Four of the seven artists for the upcoming series have been announced. Eric will be joined by two-time Swedish Eurovision representative Kikki Danielsson, singer-songwriter Tomas Andersson Wij, and the latest addition to the line-up — fab duo Icona Pop. We love it!

Så mycket bättre is a popular Swedish music show which will feature a total of seven Swedish music stars. Each episode will focus on the music of one of the artists. The others will perform versions of the featured artist’s songs in their own style.

Appearing on the show can be a huge boost for the featured artists. Three-time Melodifestivalen finalist Danny Saucedo took part in the show last year and enjoyed platinum singles for two of his show covers.

It’s all about Eric

Eric Saade has been one of the biggest names of Swedish pop music for the past ten years. After being part of boy band What’s Up! together with Robin Stjernberg, Eric’s first solo single “Sleepless” was released in late 2009.

The following year he debuted at Melodifestivalen and finished third with “Manboy”. While Anna Bergendahl was sent to Eurovision and Sweden missed the final for the first time, Eric started to build his fanbase in Sweden.

Eric’s debut album Masquerade was released in May 2010 and it peaked in the second place on Swedish album charts. “Manboy” also topped the Swedish singles charts and was certified platinum.

Eric returned to Melodifestivalen next year with “Popular”. He won the contest by being the favourite of both international juries and the Swedish televoters. Eric finished third at the Eurovision but “Popular” charted in charts all over the Europe.

The same year Eric released two albums — Saade Vol. 1 and Saade Vol. 2 — which included hits “Hearts in the Air” and “Hotter Than Fire”. Both reached the top ten at the Swedish singles charts and “Hearts in the Air” was certified gold.

When Sweden hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Eric Saade served as a host in the green room. He caused some controversy over calling the host Petra Mede a “milf”. The same year he released his fourth album Forgive Me which charted in the Nordics.

Eric returned to Melodifestivalen for the third time in 2015 with “Sting”. Despite finishing only fifth in the final, the song was Wiwi Jury’s favourite national final song of the season.

Last year Eric Saade took a new path with his music and released “Colors” and “Wide Awake” as singles from his EP. While the songs didn’t chart on the Swedish charts, the Red Mix of “Wide Awake” — remixed by Russian DJ duo Filatov and Karas — was a big hit in Russia and the surrounding regions.

So Eric has a huge back catalogue for the other contestants from Så mycket bättre to draw upon. The question just remains which songs will they cover and in what style?

He is very talented. Will be fun to see him in Så mycket bättre!

He should have won ESC 2011! His song became a bigger hit than both the Azeri and Italian songs combined….
