Rain may have stopped falling from above, but Greece’s Demy and her Eurovision entry “This Is Love” have taken flight. Greece’s pop princess is the first Eurovision act since Helena Paparizou to crack Greece’s Top 20 airplay chart with six weeks to go until Eurovision 2017. She isn’t just making her voice heard on the radio either. “This Is Love” has topped the download chart in Greece for three weeks and passed 1.5 million views on her record label’s Youtube channel. It really is love!

https://youtu.be/sBom9VecMKw

Demy’s also stepping up domestic promotion for “This Is Love” too.

Over the weekend she performed an extended version of the track at Mad Walk, the leading fashion show in Greece.

Working a metallic look, with spring floral headdress, she served charm on the runway, earning her fashion stripes ahead of the launch of Eurovision’s Next Top Model 2017.

And while she won’t be appearing at the London Eurovision Party 2017, she will perform “This Is Love” live for the first time on Sunday night.

During Ant1 TV’s entertainment show “Rising Star”, she’ll debut “This Is Love” live in primetime.

We’re already working on getting a live stream going, as we need to see this.

Currently, Demy doesn’t have any appearances scheduled for the Eurovision preview circuit. Instead, she’s investing time in her stage show for Eurovision 2017.

To give her the best chance of making it out of Semi-Final 1, she’s working with legendary Greek stage director Fokas Evangelinos, who will no doubt make sure she’s on point and ready to slay. Lights, camera, Demy!

Evangelinos was the man behind Sergey Lazarev’s stunning Super Mario chic stage show in Stockholm last year and has previous experience staging acts including Ani Lorak, Helena Paparizou and Sakis Rouvas, so you know she’s in good hands.

Are you hyped to hear Demy’s live performance? Do you think Greece will make the final this year? Let us know in the comments below and on our app!

Both Greece and FYR Macedonia’s songs are pretty good, even if I dislike Greece’s chorus, and like another commentator said, i wish not only for their country to win because they deserve a win, but also to embarrass themselves further with their ridiculousness. Hunza round number 2, make it happen.

@Blair the problem with the Slavs of ex Yugoslav ‘Macedonia’ is that they claim our land and say that the people that live there now are occupiers simply because slavic and turkish and turned muslims combined population amounted more than half of the population of the area when the ottomans lost it, even though there were more greek schools than slavic ones among other things (ottoman census etc) to prove that not only greeks never left, but were also as important as slavs and turks (both newcomers compared to greeks) too. According to them also they, the slavs of that… Read more »

@Eaftomou Krymmeno The song starts like a ballad, becomes an EDM track than has a classical instrumentation towards the end…. Which character are you talking about? Meaningful lyrics? Recognizable melody? Catchy tune? I understand we all have the right to support our country. But be objective. And yeah, I am from your north neighbor and YES you were the first one to bring out my country and the name dispute in an article where no one mentioned it. Fact is, this is trying to be too much and has zero substance and yeah I am being objective…..generic = No substance.… Read more »

@Blair, indeed, the Republic of Moldova is an independent state and Moldova is a province in Romania, but their people share the same native language (Romanian) and much of the rest of the essential traits defining their culture(s). While the Republic of Moldova and its people didn’t ever manifest any notable expansionist behavior towards Romania’s province of the same name, as, on the contrary, both states manifest a friendly unionist behavior, especially Romania towards the Republic of Moldova, the Former YugoSLAV Republic of Macedonia (FYRoM) aka “the Republic of Macedonia” and the people of its main ethnic group did and… Read more »

@Sal, being patriotic is nothing wrong about and either telling the historic and geographic truth. Life dosen’t reduce itself to just Eurovision. People who love music, even the one competing in this contest, shouldn’t become some ignorant ones about sciences for the sake of one week of “art”. Anyway, my mentioning of “Macedonia is not Macedonia” was just a small part of my previous post, as the the rest of it was focused on music, though not exhaustively. I was expecting “intelligent” reactions like “you’re blind”, but “Macedonia” is still “FYR Macedonia” at the Eurovision, check out the official website… Read more »

@Darius
I’ve been thinking about who else we can send to ESC in the future the last couple of years. And it will be amazing to see Melisses.

They’re a great band and Chris sings in English as well as he sings in Greek. It would be an interesting proposition.

Actually, they’ve been in the greek NF once, in 2010.

”Fyrom says that our history is theirs too”

If I understand correctly, FYROM says that Grecian history is secondary, and FYROM is the center of that history. Is that right?
If this is the case, let them be, still Greece is more famous in the world.

@ Gagafab – very bad song my ass, A Million Bibles is godly and she was tipped low in the odds because Russia was seen as the devil on earth in early 2015 more than it is now. But still, talent prevailed and Polina finished 2nd <3

Blair it;s not about the name itself..Fyrom says that our history is theirs too..that;s why the region and the name etc have so much importance.. but let;s not talk about these here 🙂 Demy has a potential for 6-10 in my opinion. She will have a great staging but the song is too generic

Is there a Macedonia, a region in Greece and also the independent country FYR Macedonia, right?
Just like Moldova. Is the independent country Moldova, and Moldova is also the name of a region in Romania, but they are happy to be alike as much as possible.
Why Greece can’t be happy of the similarities, instead of argue about the name?

Polina Gagarina was 14th in the bets and she came 2nd with a very bad song.
Demy has a great track so she can do even better.

It’s Greece, they know one thing or two about sending critically panned songs that in the end achieve great results thanks to the performance. They’ll be fine.

This is the sort-of song they should have been sending circa 2011-13. This type of EDM music is (amazingly) starting to sound dated.

@Sal – ”Greece will be in the bottom 10 this year” Which bottom 10?

1. Bottom 10 in the semi, which still can be a pass to the finals if 9th or 10th from the back.
2. Bottom 10 in the finals, which is still decent for anyone besides the big 5 and the host.
3. Bottom 10 in both semis combined, with one of the lowest scores overall. That option would indeed suck for them.

@Eaftomou Krymmeno

You are a perfect example of when patriotism blinds someone (or makes them deaf). Greece will be in the bottom 10 this year, without a shadow of a doubt.

And what does Macedonia’s name have to do with Jana’s song? Macedonia IS Macedonia, get the hell over it and the fact that Dance Alone will beat This is Love by miles in the final.

Congrats to Demy! IMHO, the song is terribly generic, even to a laughable degree. It is almost what ”Love, love, peace, peace!” talked about. But I do find some charm in it. Demy is very charismatic and beautiful and I see they put some effort into advertising the song and doing the staging (by what they say they are planning). It is not one of my favorite songs of semi 1, but I would bet my money on them safely gliding into the finals.

@Eaftomou Krymmeno
We understand the team is Greek. Good for being patriotic.
But do you think that the average voter cares who wrote the song? NO
If the song is basically without any character and when the lyrics are random as REACHING OUR FOR THIS STARS cos THIS IS LOVE.
I mean kindergarten kids could have done a better job with this cheese fest.
Aphrodisiac was superior just because it was way catcher….. But That’s about it.
We need the 2000s Greece back at Eurovision…. 2010-2017 no no no

@Jeana, I really cannot understand what do you find so special to many of the songs of those countries you enumerated, more than to Greece’s one. People had, indeed, some high expectations for Greece this year, given the team Demy is working with and thought that something “unheard of” might come out of the collaboration. Childish Italy is overrated since the launch of the song, “Macedonia” is not “Macedonia” either geographically and historically, nor for its song, which was written by the same team that wrote Bulgaria’s and Serbia’s songs, which, although some good ones are not “unheard of” (at… Read more »

Guys, how can you say this reaching Top 5 in the Grand Final? Be more realistic, I mean…come on! Greece is currently 15th in the Betting Odds… There are AT LEAST 10 songs better than Greek song: Italy, Belgium, Bulgaria, Sweden, France, Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Portugal, Australia, Estonia … Even Moldova has a better song! Adding Romania, Serbia and Armenia in the mix (huge diaspora voting for these 3)….If Russia will indeed compete they’ll slay… Thus, I can’t see Greece higher than 15th position, at best. Maybe if the song was amazing, like Kalomira’s in 2008… That was gorgeous! I’m sorry… Read more »

This is clearly not a eurofan favourite but Greece can clearly be in my opinion one of this year’s dark horses. It’s the kind of song that can come to life live with an innovative stage performance, and , considering the team she’s working with, they will come up with something great. Plus, i don’t get why people hate this so much, it isn’t ground-breaking but certainly enjoyable to listen and will appeal in a big audience because she has a captivaring stage presence and she’s vocally good.

You have to put an eye on Pilou Asbaek, the host of Eurovision 2014 in Copenhagen. Yep, he is in a Paramount and Dreamworks movie called “Ghost in the Shell” premiering in 2 days in the United States.

She’s such a big name in Greece right now and a very talented artist. I have absolutely no idea why they gave her three absolutely awful songs for the public to choose from. This Is Love was the best of the bunch but is still an insanely mediocre, bland, and basic song. Will probably qualify as Greece has always besides last year but will flop in the final.

I was a bit disappointed when I first listened to “This is love”, and even if the chorus is a little too typical, the bridge is amazing and has grown quite a bit on me. I still don’t see it top 5 tho :/

She’ll fail, anyway… Yeah, maybe Greece will qualify, but on the Grand Final I don’t see Greece scoring well, regardless of the “dream team”… The song is not as stunning as expected… Sergey, Farid, Ani Lorak had way better songs + amazing staging. But a good staging with a blah song I can’t see doing well… Maybe next year they’ll send Melisses, I’m rooting for them for a long time… Chris Mastoras is cute and he’s a great live singer. They’ll rock one day if the broadcaster will pick them to be the Greece representatives….

Her entry is a hit song for sure. It is a hit song for radio and for clubs but I am afraid it is too generic for Eurovision. It lacks the unigness an esc song needs.
Having said all that I am sure she will score very high in May because Eurovision viewers are not esc fans, they are ordinary people that would vote for a hit song.

If that song qualified then Demy can easily qualify as well! Not to mention the “dream team”!!

I think this is quite exciting actually. The TV-based live performance following the chart success and fashion show gig… it’s all good publicity. I wonder what people think about that chart success – is it because the song is genuinely liked, or is it just because Demy has a huge following? Answers on a postcard please (figuratively). 🙂

Looking forward to hear Demy singing the song! Hope it will be amazing!
Glad you’re working on a live streaming because it will actually be the very first time she performs the song live!
I’m aware there’s a Web TV option at the official site of ANT1, but I don’t know if this works from all over the world!

Just about Demy not having scheduled any appearances before Eurovision she has confirmed she’ll be in Moscow for the Eurovision Party at April 21st.
