Minus One Francois Micheletto Antonis Loizides quit Cyprus Eurovision 2016

Today another tragedy hits the Eurovision world. The Cypriot power band Minus One are soon to be minus two, as lead singer Francois Micheletto and bass player Antonis Loizides part ways with the group.

They broke the sad news to friends and fans on their official Facebook page, explaining that the reasons for Francois and Antonis’ departures were: “important, but totally unrelated personal reasons”.

This was followed by a reassurance that the quintet would remain friends. Judging by that, there doesn’t seem to any bad blood between the guys. Phew!

Harrys Pari, Constantinos Amerikanos and Chris J intend to continue with the Minus One project.

DEAR FRIENDS AND FANS

It is with sadness that we inform you that our lead singer Francois and our bass player Antonis have decided, for important, but totally unrelated personal reasons, to part ways with the band.

Our hearts are with them. They have been two amazing partners on a journey which has lasted 7 years, and which has seen us representing Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016, among many other exciting experiences.
We will never forget those days.

We separate as friends, colleagues, partners.

Francois and Antonis will perform all the concerts scheduled until the end of May.

Minus One will continue to exist and we look forward to new collaborations.
We count on your support and friendship, for many days, months and years more.

Chris, Harrys, Antonis, Constantinos, Francois and GP.

Minus One: A history

Active since 2009, Minus One originally started out as a cover band.

In 2015, they competed in the Eurovision Song Project for the chance to represent Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. Performing “Shine”, they placed third while John Karayiannis went home with the trophy.

However, the Cypriot national broadcaster CyBC, wasn’t quite done with the band and internally selected them for Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm. They became an instant fan favourite with “Alter Ego”, a song co-written by the Swedish Euro-wonder Thomas G:son.

Fun and outgoing, the quintet often mingled with fans — that is when they weren’t goofing around during interviews.

Have the good times passed with Francois and Antonis saying goodbye to their fellow bandmates? Lets hope not! We wish both Francois and Antonis the very best on their respective journies to pastures new.

It is never good to lose the lead singer, because it becomes a very hard job to replace him. Either you find someone worthy of filling the role (as AC/DC did in 1979), or the entire group could be dead within 2 years.

Maybe they’ll go back to someone who missed the cut as a potential lead vocalist when they first created this band, or they’ll get their replacement lead from a band that recently broke up. They were my #19 before last year’s contest, and I scored them 20th in the final.

This is sad news! They were amazing!!
Anyway, I hope they keep up the good work, even now they’re less!

We’ll all remember you slayed last year! You deserved at least top 15!

Yes, they did! With only guitars in front of their…well, you know. But it was a nice view (pubes could be easily seen). Not sure about the videos, though… (The vocalist Francois is well hung, I mean…wow)

@ Purple Mask

I have a degree in mathematics, so I can confirm that they are actually supposed to call themselves “Minus Three” now (-1 – 2 = -3).

@Colin: I didn’t say it because Kristin (the author of this post) already wrote it in her very first paragraph. So it would feel unoriginal. (It’s also proof that I do read the posts). 🙂

Too bad. I guess they are Minus Two now (I cannot believe nobody said it already). But in all seriousness, I am sorry, they made a great team.

I remember you guys started a section I really loved: WIWI’s Way and you left at Eurovision 2010.
Will it get back? Will you write again about that?
