Best music video at Eurovision 2017

A ball of light running around in an empty building. A coffin lying at the bottom of a river. A gorilla dancing with a barefoot man. The Eurovision 2017 artists have outdone themselves in terms of mind-blowing imagery in their music videos. So now it’s time for you to pick the best music video, based on originality, cinematography, acting, and overall awesomeness. Who will follow in the footsteps of Iveta Mukuchyan, whom you chose as winner of best music video in 2016?

We are not including videos of the live performances here — just the official music videos that the artists have produced outside of their selections. As is the case every year, there isn’t an official music video for every entry. Some will land after the poll is published, but don’t fret: we will add them to the count as soon as they’re released. (We’re looking at you, Romania!)

You’ll have a month to vote for the best music video in the poll below, so there is plenty of time for making your mind up. Until then, let’s meet the contenders in the playlist below!

WHO HAS THE BEST MUSIC VIDEO AT EUROVISION 2017?

Remember, this is not about the singer not the song. You need to consider the cinematography, the story, the visual concept, the execution and production values, as well as the artists’ acting abilities. So who will it be?

You can vote for as many videos as you like, but you can only vote ONCE, so be sure to click the box next to each act you want to support before pressing submit. We’ll close this poll on the 8th of May, one day before the Eurovision Song Contest kicks off in Kyiv with the First Semi-Final.

After you cast your vote, you can defend your choice in the comments box below and on the wiwibloggs app!

I am really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a great blog like this one these days..

Romania has a great video. It is the most vivid inspring video since “Happy Shiny People ” from REM. Great video. It just celebrates unity in diversity but also being united and raised to the top through music and yodel. So let’s yodel it, Europe!

I like videos with story lines, like Malta, Moldova, F.Y.R Macedonia and Finland.
I also like interesting choices like France’s dancing couple, or Italian Gorilla.

recently I read comments like “the Italians are commenting everywhere” boys, the eurovision in Italy do not even know what you just see Listens previous years, please do not tarnish others just because they are the favorites, vote your favorites and stop disgracing others!

As far as those who have made music videos (excluding national finals performances), I have Hungary, Italy, Macedonia and Bulgaria at the top of my list.

@moco: The problem with Azerbaijan is the same as it was for Switzerland 2015: Good song, lousy video. I graded Dihaj’s song and video accordingly, and if it comes down to the video weighing down her song, and the stage presentation doesn’t do enough to make the people forget about the video, the end result will be the same as it was for Mélanie René: A non-qualifier. Sadly, I see the same thing happening to Timebelle as well. Or am I really missing something regarding their video? On my scorecard, I see it a bit differently for the Sunstroke Project.… Read more »

has to be Malta. even if you don’t like the song (me too,) the video is stunning

Finland, Macedonia, Hungary, Malta, and Switzerland have meaning behind their videos, they’re all really cool
Armenia, Serbia, the UK, and Azerbaijan’s videos are all pretentious bs and kind of meaningless but they look expen$ive so I’m down for theirs too
honorable mention to Moldova for OTT

As far as a production Armenia and Bulgaria are pure art and you can tell very expensive productions. I also love the music videos from Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Finland.

For me Alma’s video is about the death (her Alone + emptiness city) of her love (the dancers symbolizes it) To sum up with her clip and lyrics it’s just to tell people 2 things : 1 love can save you and like the cycle of life and death, when a love dies another will come. 2 The Classic Carpe Diem message, enjoy every moment of your life, you´re a mortal, all can end in an instant. So I voted for her because it’s a simple clip but it means more. It’s more poetic. 🙂

Latvia’s being slept on here. It’s evident that their budget was very limited, yet they did an awesome video that captures the party vibe of the song. They made A LOT out of nothing.

Albania is my favourite video, just because it reminds me of “Battlestar Galactica!” Haha. 🙂 Story-wise, Malta hits very close to home. Macedonia (with or without initials) has a video that is arguably even stronger than the song! In terms of actual filming: Belarus deserves a cinematography award, as the entire video is shot from one single rolling camera!! Just wow! France has a video that people either love or hate, it seems. I think the empty city is meant to be symbollic of the aftermath of the Paris attacks – the couple is who Alma is singing about… they… Read more »

Dear Bogdan Honciuc because of your mistake now Azerbaijan is below because most of us cannot vote to it as it wasn’t on list and we voted to others now it says “we already counted ur vote” 🙁

I’m sorry, did I miss something? Why would be Armenia’s clip the best? Did anything happenned in that one? I’m so confused o.O
I see, many votes go for the song instead of the clip. I don’t remember any special moment of the Italian video as well.
My two favorites, Malta and Macedonia are both surprisingly down. Guess not all the votes came from me 😛

I voted for Hungary because the video changed my perception of the song. The national final performance was all over the place and frankly, I don’t think Joci Pápai has the greatest stage presence. However, from the video I was able to understand and appreciate the emotions that the song carries.

Belgium has the most modern video of all, more modern than the video of italy. Everywhere the italian fans are doing there best to vote and vote for Italy. I have noting against Italy and the song, but Italy is everywhere the last weeks and I get tired of it. Everyone is trying to push that song in our mind. It’s becoming to much. If you compared with other years , this is the first time it happen. I just hope for Italy that it will not get to a stadium that the people are so tired of him and… Read more »

I like Hungary, it has a story but it makes viewers focus on the sound and visuals as well, Spain, Austria and Israel are so themselves, Croatia with all the stories about different people, Moldova with the funny nightmare about mother in law, I like all except Albania and Italy, what is with all those Linditas and Francesco is overshadowed by the ape, no wonder the t-shirt has only the ape on it, it’s not even duo like Belarus, it’s only the ape.

Macedonia showed us how to make a great video with a low budget. Azerbaijan remains my favorite, though. The visuals, the colors, the concept… it all screams Halsey, who is one of my favorite singers <3
