Demy This Is Love Greece Eurovision 2017 Rehearsal Alex Panayi

She’s one of the few acts to skip all the Eurovision 2017 preview parties. But Greece’s Demy is most definitely not slacking off.

On Monday, the Greek pop princess gave fans a little teaser of what to expect in Kyiv when she shared a 30 second rehearsal clip. The video doesn’t give much away in terms of staging, but we can see that Demy has recruited four backing singers — two male and two female.

The practice session is led by none other than Cypriot Eurovision legend Alex Panayi. Since last entering the contest in 2000, Panayi has established himself as a much-in-demand vocal coach, most recently lending his expertise to Sergey Lazarev and the Russian team in Stockholm.

He joins Greece’s already illustrious “dream team” of composer Dimitris Kontopoulos and staging maestro Fokas Evangelinos, both of whom also worked with Russia last year.

Aside from Panayi’s involvement, perhaps the most interesting aspect of the clip is the vocals. Essentially, this is the first opportunity we’ve had to hear Demy perform live, without the assistance of any playback. Singing completely a cappella, the 25 year old offers us a timely reminder as to why she was picked in the first place.

Demy This Is Love — Greece Eurovision 2017 (Rehearsal Clip)

Demy This Is Love (Live on Rising Star Greece)

The stripped back session is in stark comparison to Demy’s appearence on the Greek edition of Rising Star last week. Guesting on the talent show, which includes Kalomira as a backstage host, the brown-haired beauty delivered a high-octane performance of her Eurovision entry.

Wearing a body-hugging sparkly dress and slicked back hair, she engaged in some elaborate choreography with her eight-man dance troupe. Her vocals remained flawless throughout, causing some to mutter “playback”. Watch the clip below and judge for yourself.

If Demy can achieve a happy medium between both performances in Kyiv, we could see her move away from the chasing pack and join the contenders out in front.

Rain may have stopped falling from above, but Demy is already achieving considerable success in her homeland.

Last month, she became the first Eurovision act since Helena Paparizou to crack Greece’s Top 20 airplay chart with six weeks to go until Eurovision 2017. She isn’t just making her voice heard on the radio either. “This Is Love” has topped the download chart in Greece for three weeks. It really is love!

Don’t say stupid things.
The song is not Bohemian Rhapsody nor is it an art piece.
And I leave negative comments because I’ve been commenting here for 3 years now and none of the Greek songs in the past 3 years have been good……. Go back to the amazing entries Greece had in the 2000’s.
This is a miss for me, sorry….Just My opinion.

Clever step, I predicted 4 dancers 😀
Last year, Argo made a cute dance and visuals were good. I still have those in my mind.

I don’t know why people are so critical of “This Is Love.” It’s no worse an entry than any of the other Eurovision songs this year. Also, we know by now that quality is not always an indicator of how well an entry does. If it were, Lindita (and her amazing vocals) would easily win the contest–instead, Albania is NOT expected to make the top 10, sadly. Personally, I think “This Is Love” will easily make top 10 in the grand final. The Greeks are very excited for Demy this year, so it will get diaspora support (which the past… Read more »

Isn’t that guy who did Azerbaijans Hold me and Russians Sergey performance staging this?
I am not a fan of the song but Eurovision is now 70% staging and 30% music so I wouldnt be surprised seeing this doing well

yeah I agree Greece somehow always elevates their songs on stage. Even Maria Elena Kuriakou and the awful argo were much better live. This may be the dark horse of the year.

” Leaf ” every year leaves negative comments about the greek entries, hes from FYROM.

If Greeks are great at one thing in Eurovision its the staging. With a mega stage show this could reach top 10 in the final in no time.

@Nouxnoux

Yeah and the results kept going downhill ………. From Helena winning to Kalomira’s third and Elefteria being somewhere in the middle on the right side.
I ain’t hopeful for this …… Seems like a stereotype for a typical eurovision song.
It’s cheesy and makes zero sense to me.
The girl can sing …….. Get her a better song asap.

who cares if she was playback or not? This girl can clearly sing well.
she will do very well.

The Rising Star performance was clearly playback.

It’s regrettable she didn’t sing live, because she was lambasted by the comments online. That may be why she released these small clips, in response to all the criticism.

As for not attending any events/parties, much of that has to do with her commitments. Her last performance on “Mama Mia” was just last week, thus her schedule didn’t allow her much time to tour this early.

I think will make top 10, somewhere between #6 and #10 in the grand final.

“Greece has done this multiple times in the last decade (beautiful girl and an uptempo number)”
Leaf
Not really. Actually 3 times in the last 15 years. Helena, Kalomira and Eleftheria. All the others were men, male bands and ladies singing dated ballads.

Beautiful girl and an uptempo number…. Hmmm.
Greece has done this multiple times in the last decade and they need to find a new Eurovision formula. Times have changed, music has changed and after 2012…..i don’t see this being a hot favorite.

To be honest I thought Greece would stay in the semis again, but with Demy performing it on stage (even though that performance clearly was playback) the track really elevates.

Demy has said that there will be dancing but not in the mainstream way but in a romantic and different way. Maybe there will be a dancer and stage effects like holograms or on screen dancers. My opinion is that the rising star performance was indeed live, because she didn’t sing a “this is love” lyric on the first chorus which exists in the studio version. I don’t think that the backing vocals are there because she can’t sing ; she can indeed sing but I believe that they want to create harmonies so the chorus sounds more rich.

I feel like people are sleeping on Greece… the lyrics may be really weak, but people are forgetting all the factors going into this song (beautiful girl + uptempo dance song + amazing staging) to make it become successful.

But that’s 4 background singers, leaving 1 dancer? Unless all those background singers will be dancing too. Either way I’m sure it’ll all come together for the semi-final.

Greece being smart using backing vocals to help her.
We’ll see the staging. I hope she won’t do a “Diva performance”

This is a dark horse. The song might have some flaws, but she is beautiful, charismatic, has a beautiful voice and the stage performance will bring this song to life, in the hands of an excellent stage director like Fokas. Will place much better than most people expect!

I have a good feeling about the Greek entry this year. It’s not a masterpiece, but it kinda works for me.
